FACT or FICTION: Lloyd will put up 35% against Zero.

I say Fact.

Even if Zero makes Lloyd look weaker than Mithos indirectly, I'd highly doubt that Mithos is stronger than Lloyd indirectly. You have to look at who he was facing.

Kefka is probably the LEAST photogenic character in the contest. I HIGHLY doubt that someone who isn't a fan of his would vote for him. Mithos probably benefitted a lot from simply facing Kefka. In other words, Lloyd would probably perform better than Mithos against Kefka, no matter what his matchup against Zero says otherwise.

Until then though, I'm doubtin' Lloyd does well enough to throw it into question. His performance against Wesker was absolutely craptastic.

FICTION; Kratos would have a hard enough time breakin' 35% on Zero, and I'm now sold that Kratos > Lloyd.

Fiction: Zero is a beast. Tales of Symphonia may be popular on this board, but it is hardly the pinnacle of overall popularity, although it sold okay. As far as Lloyd Irving being compared to Zero in terms of popularity, I don't think it will be a contest. Zero may push for the tripling.

I just noticed that in their matchups against Scorpion, Zero/Scorpion had 20000 more votes than Auron/Scorpion. That's more than enough to account for a 2% fluctuation. Take back what I said earlier. I say Auron and Zero are probably at the same strength.

I just did some direct-match-extrapolation with data we've collected in the past year...but, by using Zero/Vercetti, Kefka/Vercetti, Kefka/Wesker, and Lloyd/Wesker, the numbers predict Lloyd to get 24.17% against Zero tomorrow (with or without 20XXF, it matters not). Now, I'm still peggin' the guy at 26%, but to think he really has much of a chance of avoiding the doubling, much less breaking 35%, is roughly equivilent to being clinically crazy.

Of course, should Lloyd blow our minds, I'll humbly remove my foot from my mouth and take it back...until then though, I thin the guy can only wish for 30%, MAX.

Fiction. I'd take Zero over Ganondorf, who got 65% on Diablo, who got 57% on Auron, who's probably about as strong, if not stronger than Lloyd.

Zero's hitting 70%.

Yeah; if Lloyd gets close to tripled, then compound that with Knuckles > Magus making Kefka's V.C. four-pack look normal, and that'll essentially guarantee Angel Kefka had no effect...

...I still think it did him more favors than any other picture though, even if it's minimal; if only he could get a sprite.....

I still don't understand how Ryu Hayabusa did so well against Zero. I mean, ninja picture or not, he's basically from an old NES game, a fighting game, and an XBox action game...right?

He's a ninja from a very popular NES series, and a very popular XBox game. What's so hard to believe that he could pull 37% on Zero? It was still a good whipping for him.

He's a ninja from a very popular NES series, and a very popular XBox game.

Right there is my point. XBox games and old-school characters don't seem to have much comparative strength, no matter how popular they are.

And I know the unadjusted rankings predict that match very well, but we've had matches that have seemingly supported both the adjustment and the unadjustment. Not to mention that Mega Man seems to fall in between. >_<

I'd always blamed it on the pics. He only underperformed by about 3%. Which usually people would say is too much for a pic to matter. But it's not too much for two pics to matter.

I think the pic he had against Sora was a negative, thereby underrating. And the pic he had against Zero was a positive, thereby increasing his performance. I don't think 1.5% per pic is too bad of a difference... *cough*

Partially because I had a little issue with Jill's large drop from 2003 to 2004.

Good argument...

Partially because I had a little issue with Jill's large drop from 2003 to 2004.

...though pics doesn't affect Jill in this case; she lost to bad-pic Hayabusa, and he lost in the next round with another bad pic against Sora. Had Hayabusa gotten better pics, Jill would have stayed roughly where she's at now and Hayabusa would have gained however much he gained on her.

Yeah, I forgot his bad first rounder.

Although I thought his second one was hillariously worse, just because it was a close up of his dorky face and they actually managed to make clown shoes Sora look kind of... cool.

I agree, partystar. Sora had an awesome round 2 pic last year.

The only 2 seeds I have winning are.... Crono..... wow, the 2 seeds aren't very powerful this year. Squall and Sora are the only others who could win, the others will be taken out by the 2 seeds.
Ironically, the three 2 seeds that have a good chance at winning are facing the three 6 seeds who won against their 3 seed opponent....

seed.

i believe that Angel Kefka is projected to get 64.34% on Lloyd using Wesker's two values. now, i still completely believe that Angel Kefka performed better than Clown or Lettuce Kefka, but i seriously doubt that Angel Kefka brought him up to Zero's level. therefore, i see no way that Lloyd will break 35% and predict that Zero will break 67%.

I don't see what is so hard to believe about Auron being higher than Tidus. Outside of the whole "main character is always the strongest" bit, what reasoning would Tidus have for being stronger?

exactly. and that whole "main character is always the strongest" is looking pretty weak after Vivi and Zidane, Kratos and Lloyd, & Kefka & Terra.

From: LeonhartForever | Posted: 8/20/2005 3:35:36 PM | Message Detail | #070
I'm feeling pretty confident that next spring will be a games contest. No reason, really. Just a gut feeling.

even if Samus or Tifa wins this year, i could still see Ceej have a Femal Character contest next Spring, simply because we just don't see that many females in these contests, even though we had 9 females this year.

Vivi and Zidane

Vivi's character design makes him look like a black mage. Therefore, he appeals to a wider audience than Zidane.

Kratos and Lloyd

ToS is cult. In cult fanbases, the most popular character does slightly better. And I'm still not even sure myself that Kratos > Lloyd.

Kefka & Terra

Terra is from an ensemble cast.

I wonder why today's vote total's are so low? I mean, they're just above 90k and there's less than 30 minutes left. In Mario and Ness' first matches, they both totaled up to 99k. I guess more people were itching to vote at the start of the contest than they are now at the start of round 2.

Not for every situation, but I don't see what Tidus/Auron have in common with the three listed.

they don't necassarily have to have something in common. it could just be that Auron is just plain more likable than Tidus. that and he doesn't look like Meg Ryan.

Not for every situation, but I don't see what Tidus/Auron have in common with the three listed.

Auron was introduced at the beginning of the game, just like Kratos. He has just as much reason to be liked as Tidus. Plus his very character is the type that people seem to be in favor of.

Instead of trying to figure out the details, the first thing you have to ask yourself is "IS Tidus liked more than Auron?" Not "SHOULD Tidus be liked more than Auron". People seem to put more stock in the "should" question than the "is" question.
