Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 208

Luigi is alot like DK and Pac-Man many people will vote for you, but
if he's against some one else you know/like people will abandon you.
Oh, so the site doesn't know who Ocelot, Kefka, Vercetti, and Ryu are, but they know who Sam Fisher and Scorpion are? Hmph.

Luigi is a bit different from DK and Pac-Man anyway. He does have a lot of hardcore fans (myself included).

Also, does anyone think this might be another match where the board
underdog is the bracket favorite? Pac-Man's been in this situation
before.

Wouldn't be surprised if Pac-Man was the bracket favourite.
The reason I picked Revolver was because his Spring Contest performance was still fresh in my mind, heh. Otherwise I might've gone w/ Pac-Man.

Oh, and at this point, Ocelot's performance puts Bowser below Ryu's
2004 number, for what it's worth. That match still looks to be up in
the air.

Even if I will vote for Ryu, I think Bowser will take it. The other
Mario characters looks stronger tha never and I can't see Rikku being
close to Bowser's strength.

Well, I was basing Ocelot off of 2003 Pac-Man, actually, not Sp2K5. I
don't trust the Spring Contest values enough to use them in serious
calculations. Plus, it was more just FYI than anything else. I don't
think this is a harbinger of Bowser's doom or anything, but it doesn't
make him look any better.

I can't see Rikku being close to Bowser's strength.
I can!
You can see Rikku beating Link, so that point is absolutely worthless.

Funny. I just made some quick calculations, and it seems that to the
board this match is the second biggest upset of all time. I always felt
the BOP consensuses were way too big, but damn, two upsets bigger than
Starcraft over Wind Waker...

I'm surprised that more people didn't really expect it to be close
enough for Pac-Man to win. I thought, even before the contest, that
Ocelot would get 55% max.

no matter how much I know he can't after his pathetic night performance.

So now we've seen Bowser, Yoshi, Luigi, and Pac-Man all do better than expected and you guys still think Luigi *overperformed* on Pac-Man? What will it take for you guys to give Luigi some credit?
Bowser did more or less what I expected. Yoshi did more or less what I expected. Luigi did a bit better coupled with what I expected to be a significant drop for KOS-MOS. I always thought this would be close and Pac-Man had a chance. Luigi will get some credit if he pulls 40% against Tifa.

Wow, what a first round. I woke up, voted for Pac-Man, was once again
shocked at the result. What surprises me even more, though, is that you
guys have only ran through like 300-350 posts since the poll began. I
was expecting at LEAST two full topics once I saw the poll results.
And I've never lost so many points in the first round (4), yet I still feel really confident in most of the rest of my bracket (everything except for Squall > Vincent and Sonic > Tifa).
---
For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to refer to Gordon Freeman versus Tanner as Schrodinger's Match. -Phoenix Flattener

Not technically.... it's thought of by many that once you get a high end character like that, and more or less Fodder, things can get a little wacky. I think he dropped, but not massively.

It's also just not that important to most of the people in this
topic--unlike Knux/Magus, which not only was a huge bracket breaker,
but contradicted two years of Magus Noble Nine Contendership hopes.
...I really hate to see what the X-Stats are going to look like when all is said and done. Though at least there isn't the massive SFF anymore.

So assuming the premise of transitivity between years and matches still hold, anyone that beats Tifa will be a favourite?
Just thought it'll be interesting if say, Tifa loses to Sonic, and the Sonic loses to MM, etc; up to the point where if Vyse didn't drop, you'd have MM above Sephy or something like that.

With what we've seen now, if Sonic/Mega Man beats Tifa, Vyse would have
HAD to drop--a lot, unless, of course, we take that pesky transitivity
into account again.

Vyse will have dropped, book it. Apart from a few rabid fans which any
character will have, his casual support (and that from the likes of
Laharl, KOS-MOS et al) will have moved on to the RPG flavour of the
month, which is seemingly that one Lloyd's in, whatever it's called.

Guy, haven't you noticed that people are going to say whatever they have to to make sure that the stats make sense during every match in which the stats are proven to be ****ed up? After all, Ocelot not doing well today makes it obvious that Bowser and Ganon overperformed in every single one of their matches in the Spring and that Luigi SFFd Pac Man despite not being from the same company or on the same system!
Obvious SFF, just like Link vs Mega Man! And when Bowser and Ganon proceed to rip through their opponents, these people are all going to turn around and act like there were hidden signs all over the stats that made it clear from the beginning.

Just looked at the next couple of match pics. Kirby vs. Pac-Man in this format could have been quite amusing.
