Here's my 32-character 2002 bracket. Could probably use some tweaking, but I think a lot of those matches would be interesting.

I thought most people had decided that higher vote totals just favored Nintendo characters, since the lesser known characters receive minimally more support while mainstream characters benefit a lot?

The day vote isn't even in full swing yet and Yoshi's pulling in 76-77% of the vote. He could get a decent amount higher once all is said and done.

Sweet, Yoshi's gained almost 3 percent since I left 5 hours ago. I really hope he can keep it up and end in the 76-77% range.

This match has 45226 votes at 10:20

Lloyd/Wesker - 41189
Samus/Yuri - 39663
Gordon/Leon - 43398
Luigi/KOS-MOS - 49217

A little difficult to tell where this match is going to end up now. I'm guessing in the mid-high 90K range

In 2002, 43.71% predicted Gordon's first round loss.
In 2003, 65.42% predicted Gordon's first round loss.
In 2004, 65.22% predicted Gordon's first round loss.

Ironically, 2003 and 2004 were much closer matches than 2002 and 2005.

Tifa doesn't look to be so impressive right now

Considering Yoshi's doing worse against Laharl than Tifa did against Vyse and that Vyse beat Laharl 60-40 last year, I would think Tifa's far far ahead of him. To compare though, assuming both Vyse and Laharl are constant, Yoshi's at 29.24% (between Bowser [who he lost to 57-43 in 2k3] and Squall) on Link 2k4...Tifa, meanwhile, would be at 40.86% (between Samus and Sephiroth) on Link 2k4. Using those two values, Tifa beats Yoshi with 64.22%.

I think Laharl is a bit weaker than he should be though. In the battle of Vyse vs Laharl, I think bracket voters had a larger effect than usual, because it was cult character vs cult character. Many visitors would be all like "who are those two?", *Votes with bracket*.

Vyse had 67% of the brackets, and I think the reasons he did were... a. He was in the contest once before. b. He was the higher seed.

So yeah, I think if Laharl was the 8 seed vs Vyse, the match may have been a 53-47 match or something like that. What I mean is, Vyse is probably only truly a little stronger than Laharl. Maybe 2% on 2k3 Link difference, rather than 5%.

From: charmander6000 | Posted: 8/18/2005 11:57:01 AM | Message Detail
Here's my revised SC2k5 bracket with explainations (I did not change the seeding for any character)

Mushroom Division

(1) Mario
(8) Joanna Dark
Nothing really to change here

(4) Ness
(5) Leon Kennedy
Will the overestimation of Leon make people put him over Ness?

(3) Kratos (God of War)
(6) Ryu Hayabusa
This 4-pack may seem easy, but it’s really not.

(2) Lloyd Irving
(7) Rikku
Will the overestimation of Lloyd make people put him over Rikku?

Zebes Division

(1) Samus
(8) Yuri
Nothing to change here

(4) Vivi
(5) Frog
With Frog’s weakness this might be close and I don’t know where SFF will go to

(3) Ganondorf
(6) Yuna
Nothing will seem better and besides I don’t want to break round 2’s match.

(2) Auron
(7) Big Boss
See above

Gear Division

(1) Solid Snake
(8) Manny Calavera
I shouldn’t really change 1/8 matches since 8 seeds have no chance.

(4) Riku
(5) Zelda
Frog’s weakness or Riku’s strength you decide.

(3) Magus
(6) Alucard
It’s a trap!

(2) Sora
(7) Agent 47
So much for Neo-Tanner

Dream Division

(1) Kirby
(8) CATS
I want to see CATS overperform against Kirby making many people believe that he has no chance against Tidus

(4) Tidus
(5) Diablo
I think it’s better to see what Tidus’ strength is.

(3) Bowser
(6) Chun Li
Nothing to say

(2) Ryu (Street Fighter)
(7) Zidane
Was Zidane SFF by Crono, but even if he was it won’t make much of a difference.

Flood Division

(1) Master Chief
(8) Cecil
Had to move CATS away

(4) Kratos Aurion
(5) Sam Fisher
Who’s stronger?

(3) Kefka
(6) Tommy Vercetti
It was a great match so I won’t change it.

(2) Crono
(7) Albert Wesker
Seems like no one wants to verse Crono

Devil Division

(1) Dante
(8) Terra
People still think this will be a close match

(4) Donkey Kong
(5) Vincent Valentine
Vincent may underperform to some people’s expectations, but I don’t think he’ll lose to DK

(3) Zero
(6) Laharl
And Zero takes the division

(2) Squall Leonhart
(7) Geno
I don’t think there was any SFF in that match.

Chaos Division

(1) Sonic the Hedgehog
(8) Jin Kazama
Go Sonic

(4) Sarah Kerrigan
(5) Carl Johnson
If people had Kerrigan over Vincent there will be more people having her over CJ

(3) Tifa Lockheart
(6) Vyse
...

(2) Luigi
(7) KOS-MOS
I’d like to keep the impression that this will be a close match

20XX Division

(1) Mega Man
(8) Conker
Again no change

(4) Gordon Freeman
(5) King of all Cosmos
Using Tidus’ 2k4 numbers King is very close to Freeman. I know many people will take Freeman in this match.

(3) Yoshi
(6) Knuckles the Echidna
I’ve always wanted to see this match

(2) Revolver Ocelot
(7) Pac-Man
We haven’t seen this match yet, but Ocelot will either lose to Pac-Man or make it to Mega Man

But that's still not Laharl's true strength either, if it's based on "Ahh, I'll just vote with my bracket."

Yeah but what I meant was, if there was no bracket voting whatsoever it probably would've gone close to 55-45 rather than 60-40, and if Laharl was the bracket favorite it would've went closer to 50-50 than 60-40.

So bracket voting causes Laharl to look a little weaker than he should.

His Dirge of Cerberus picture would be a much better choice, if you ask me.

If they take the one that you always post and is my wallpaper, then yes. There are some crappy ones, though.

Sephiroth looks freaking amazing in Advent Children, though. I'm surprised at how awesome he turned out to be in that new design.

I haven't checked up on it, but what was Yoshi originally projected to get this match?

Wow, I just looked at the prediction percentage for Gordon/Leon. It's funny that the percentage is lower than Gordon/Tina.

And it took out 12 perfects. I can't believe 14 brackets lost their perfect scores to GFNW.

I prefer the FFVII version. It's the only character where I prefer the original.
