Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 207

I'm actually not very surprised about the % of brackets supporting Gordon what with Half Life 2 out. However, I expected a 40% at most supporting Gordon...

Either that, or the bracket makers are more willing to trust somebody they've seen before. Well, it doesn't really matter at this point. Leon's done his job. Now all that's left is to bow out to Mega Man.

Close to 80%. At this point, it doesn't look like it'll be happening. It's lining up closer to the 71.01% Yoshi was expected to get based on 2004.

If I were to guess I'd say the chain of power for the Mario franchise goes --

Mario >> Bowser > Yoshi > Luigi >= Donkey Kong > Wario > Geno

Yeah, I lumped DK in there. *shrug*

I get the feeling Peach would fall between Bowser & Yoshi, though that's not anything more than a hunch.

I'm goin' to bed...Yoshi VS Luigi: the rematch. Who do you put your stakes on?

I now go for Yoshi after taking Luigi last year. Luigi might have overperformed, but not by much, any non-FF RPG character (may possibly have to include CT there as well, but lets wait for Knuckles/Squall to see just how much Magus was overrated) likely loses popularity *very* quickly. We saw it with KOS-MOS, we're seeing it with Laharl if Yoshi gets towards my Oracle pick or higher, and we probably saw it with Vyse as well. I'm not buying that Tifa performance as purely Tifa's strength. If any Tales characters return next year they'll fall as well and I'd pick them to lose to anyone they could reasonably have a match against.

Yoshi will hopefully push towards the tripling as the day vote kicks in. Not that I like the character, of the 64 in this year he rates at my #64, but just to eliminate this type of fodder for good.

I'm guessing that it's a mixture of factors - casuals not knowing GFNW, the unknown strength of Leon and a possible HL2 increase.

43% BAHAHAHAHA!!! And to think, I had started writing the Winners and Losers, and put the casual bracketmakers in the Winners section due to the insanely high percentages they've been racking up consistently since the Ganondorf match.

Oh, and don't worry about Yoshi, he'll be alright with the day vote.

I didn't read much of what's been said except for the stuff shortly after I left, and FINALLY someone seemed to have a clue of what I was saying about ranges.

From: UltimaterializerX | Posted: 8/17/2005 1:25:55 PM | Message Detail | #342
The only thing I can think of would be to list each charactter's lowest and highest strength as their range. Anything other than that is a guess.

If it weren't against the ToS, I'd ask Mega (aka Wylvane) to read some interesting Mario series fanfiction in here, and THEN we could decide whether or not Peach has appeal.

We could have a group reading in the chat sometime. A special reading for stats people, I'm sure they'd enjoy it.

Anyway, the prediction percentage makes baby Jesus cry. I can't believe that people lost their perfects to GORDON FREEMAN. This is the guy who got less than 45% on Sam Fisher. His opponent, the main character from one of the biggest games released this year, definitely would've slaughtered him, even with a HL2 boost.

It's simple logic, folks. Gordon Freeman Never Wins.

Other than the shock of Gordon Freeman actually being the favorite to win, this match is one of the dullest so far. This topic has definitely slowed to a halt.

Maybe now's a good opportunity to play around with an idea I had. Let's start with the 2002 bracket, and recreate it into a 32-character bracket (dropping out all the worthless fodder besides maybe CATS and Freeman) with new seeding and everything. Using 2002 stats, I'm sure some of you can make some riveting matches.

We could go ahead and do this with all the brackets. Not like this match is riveting or anything.
