Scha... you obviously took him up on the wrong point. Vincent getting past Dante? 0%, buddy.
But seriously... Mario beating Sephiroth and Cloud is as credible as Vincent beating all those guys and Tifa beating all those other guys if you ask me. Not very likely.
---
Dante fact of the post: Dante has 1/12th the interesting facts Raiden does, but that's no fault of Dante, considering the average is 1/492nd.

Maybe more so than thinking Mario will take it all? I say YES!
In this case, no.

Sephiroth wouldn't break 60% on Mario again.
Of course he wouldn't -- he couldn't even break it on Bowser.
But Mario winning from Cloud? Not happening.

It's less credible until Mario 128 because it's 0%. As far as we know, there's still a chance of Vincent and Tifa being capable of it.

The point I'm trying to make is that the only thing you guys can do is
make educated guesses based off of past results, and you're oftentimes
wrong. If you weren't, everyone on the board would have perfect
brackets and be in a 2000 way tie for first place. Some guesses are
more reasonable than others, but they're still just guesses. Characters
are more in polls than arbitrary, wide ranges of numbers. Voters are
not transitive, linear robots.
You don't know for an absolute fact what will happen in any given match, nor can you always accurately relate them to what will happen a full year later. Mario could win the entire thing. It's unlikely, but not impossible.
Threw the X-stats out the window, Seph has CRUSHED Mario DIRECTLY.
*rewind to 2004*
Throw the Xsts out the window. Cloud already beat Link, and there's no point in running this contest again.

A ridiculous comparison. Cloud beat Link with a whopping 51%.
Sephiroth beat Mario with 61%. You're insane if you think that Mario will magically boost exponentially for no reason and win the contest.

As far as this whole Mario winning the whole thing idea...
Sure, it's POSSIBLE, but it's at least 1000-1. Nothing's happened for him in the past year, and we do have concrete stats from last year saying that he'll have a problem getting past Crono, Samus is unknown and that Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth should beat him handily.
Do any anomalies exist for Mario that would change around his ranking? Hell, there are much more that would make him LOWER than we expect.
---

Looks like his quest failed, eh NewLib? I'll say it again. Kratos > Leon Kennedy. Hell it may be Kratos Aurion > Leon Kennedy. Heh.
I'm still holding my vote here... I usually vote with my bracket on these matches where I don't really have a preference, (neither really has a picture advantage) but I can't say that helping the universe implode isn't tempting.
---
I'd have taken Kratos Aurion > Leon Kennedy in my bracket, by the way.

That's not what I said. I said that it's ridiculous to assume that Ganondorf got a boost a year later than Link did when he showed apparent signs of getting nothing in 2003.
And it turns out it was ridiculous.

Raiden would be doing better than this. I guarantee it.
And hey, Mario beat Cloud in 2k2, then he lost to Sephiroth in 2k3 by a huge margin. Who's to say he can't make a reverse jump to beat Cloud in 2k5. Mario > Cloud isn't too much less likely than Vincent > Crono or Tifa > Mega Man/Sonic. I believe this.

Ulti, sometimes I wonder if you wont be happy until the X-Stats are retired...
I'll be happy when the stats don't have fanboys who try to adjust for every factor under the sun in an attempt to have them make sense whenever something goes wrong. When the stats predict something, all is peachy. When the stats are off by a fair amount, everyone scrambles around like ants in an effort to keep them looking as perfect and accurate as possible. The thought of voters simply changing their minds -- Or, get this! -- new voters coming to vote in the polls and throwing out the ridiculous assumption of transitivity is not allowed.
All of the stats are unreliable at best. They're a good medium for a general idea, but not much else. Fun to calculate, fun to look at, fun to debate, but they'll cause your bracket to go through hell and are void of factoring in human variables and ranges.

I blame his upcoming marriage.
Anyway, unless Mario had a major boost from PM2 and whatever Party and sports games he had, he's going to need a lot of luck to still beat Sephy. But I'd be laughing with you if he pulled it off. Who knows, maybe they'll release details on Mario 128 during Cloud/Link that would show how Mario 128 > Twilight Princess while Square cancels Advent Children and instead announces they're releasing a DVD of people in FF7 cosplay? Also, maybe the pic will be a montage of badass Mario poses VS fat cosplay Sephiroth. With a Mario MIDI as the background music, and the main page saying "Vote for Mario and I'll make you a mod!"
Hey, it could happen.

And less people predicted Mega Man to win than Tifa? Oh boy.

People here love Sephiroth so damn much it probably still wouldn't happen.

How about if CJayC posts on the main page, saying "A vote for Mario is
a vote for me!"? There's so many CJayC fanboys on here ready to do his
bidding in an instant, they'd reject Sephiroth and flock to Mario, all
for Master Ceej.
I want to hit every CJayC fanboy I see with a bat.

Based on gf's performance so far, if leon does some what well in his
second round match can we conclude that gordon may no longer be fodder?
