Like Halo 2 did for Master Chief, right? Honestly, Half-Life performed decently in the games contest. But NOBODY cares about Gordon Freeman. He is a nothing. He gets votes for being the Half-Life guy, but other than that...He's got nothing. He's a guy that would be very easy to pass over and vote for somebody else against.

Analysis

I could end this analysis by saying GFNW and make a prediction, but I won’t. Leon is from Resident Evil 2 and 4, which was released a few months ago. His first match ever is against a board fad and he should easily win the match, Freeman may put up a fight with the board votes, but that’s the only time I’ll see him do any good.

Why Freeman became a fad was because he never won a match, so what so special about that many characters have never won a match. Well first of all he’s been in every single character contest and second he should’ve won his match against Tina (who ironically is under him) and if Freeman was new in 2k3 and 2k4, I might’ve put him over Max and Sam. Just because of one match and that he never won another match made him a laughing stock here on board 8, that and if he does win the world shall implode (Those plane crashes and the earthquake might be giving us some hints on what’s to happen tomorrow >_>).

Freeman has also gain a new game, Half-Life 2. By many it is considered one of the best PC games ever made, but if you know GameFAQs PC characters never really do well in a contest situation. HL2 will probably give Freeman some kind of a boost, but I think it will be more likely that his picture has the Half-Life symbol on it.

A good question is where Leon will rank. We’ve had some Resident Evil characters before and they all performed fairly well. Claire, Jill and Nemesis have done very well for themselves, but Wesker hasn’t shown that he has a lot of power in him, but even he’s stronger the Freeman. I haven’t played Resident Evil too much, but I would rank Leon as fourth from the five Resident Evil characters. This may seem low to some people, but I don’t think Leon has the power to best Claire, Jill or Nemesis (who btw was named from Resident Evil 3).

Gordon Freeman is one of the few characters to lose with over 40% in all of the contests. The only other characters that have such a claim are Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Solid Snake and Ryu. Gordon being in such a list of characters makes him look like an odd-ball, but I think he can manage scoring over 40%. Normally if Leon was verse someone at Freeman’s strength I would predict him to take over 60%, but I will make an exception.

As for that signup list, it's really just a guideline. If you want to write for a match, go ahead and write for a match. In fact, it's probably better if everyone goes nuts writing, because that way all of the matches I mentioned are covered in case some people forget.

I think the biggest thing Gordon has going for him this year is his match picture. People that don't recognize his name/face should at least be clued in to his identity by the giant symbol on his chest. I know that sounds a little silly, but since he's going up against a character with little name value to non-RE fans, it could make a big difference.

Why would you expect that? There's nothing different about him, and with all of the massive sales and hype Halo 2 got, it gave Master Chief virtually nothing. If Gordon benefits, it'll be very small, and it won't make the difference between him breaking 40% or not.

I still think Leon's going to be relatively weak. That's most of why I think the match will be about 60-40... Leon being below his usual place and Gordon being a tad better than it.

But then, I thought Luigi vs. KOS-MOS would be 55-45 too. So I wouldn't be surprised with whatever happens in this match, as long as Leon stays between 55 and 65.

Well, according to the 2K3 x-stats, Gordon's at 15.86% on Link (and lost to Max Payne). You could even stretch that to say that Gordon was still underrated there, as Max overperformed against Vercetti the next year (assuming 20XX adjustment). Of course Gordon's value is much lower the next year, but judging by DK/Sam Fisher you could say that Sam and Gordon were underrated.

Add in a possible increase for Gordon from his new game, and it's entirely possible to beat Gordon 60/40 and still be above the VFL, even if just barely.

MM is doing somewhat better than what the un-adjusted X-stats predicted, but still farther than what the adjusted X-stats would predict.

So unless Conker gained noticeably, it's safe to assume at this point that the 20XX adjustment is fundamentally unjustified.
