Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 203

If Vyse stays relatively the same, I say we keep the VFL. If not, we establish a percentage-based fooder line.

Magus screwed my bracket over. Yay!

Technically, 19-20% on BL is the fodder line. It just so happens that Vyse falls there more often than not.

I'd rather stick with Vyse being the fodder-line than his percentage, just for the sake of ease. Considering Vyse is basically the closest to fodder you can be without BEING fodder, I think it'd be reasonable to think he could occasionally dip into fodder-territory just due to yearly variation...but not enough to actually be considered a drop in popularity.

Once again, Sonic got 76%+ on Jin. You're telling me that Cloud would not quadruple the guy with ease? Cloud would be expected to get 83.33% on Jin based on that, which I don't see as a problem at all based on Sonic, which would make Vyse/Jin a 55/45 affair.

It's kinda funny when you think about it now. We dropped two FFVII characters in an attempt to contain its dominance.

And two FFVII characters are dominating anyway.

Speaking of which, if Zelda beats Snake and Tifa beats Sonic, they'll become the first two non-Noble Niners to beat a Noble Niner (though from the looks of it, Tifa should've been there all along).

After getting unfairly shunned in 2004, this looks to be the ladies' contest.

I almost want to suggest Luigi vs. a random piece of furniture from FF7 as a PotD idea using that form someone (TRE, probably) linked to the other day. Of course, I won't seriously do it, but it'd be awesome as a joke poll.

Of course, if the furniture wins, there's no guarantee on what's going to happen next.

I think it has to do with franchise voting, BUT exceptionally because it was a villain contest. Mario wasn't any more stellar in 2002 despite being the only Mario character in the field, and it was Crono's worst year - and he was in the same situation.

I don't know if it would apply the same way to Mario and Crono, since they should already be receiving the maximum support of their franchise fanbases.

True. But I'm going to want to revisit the issue when Zelda puts up 55% on Snake. :-)

Three things of note:

Dante backers, make your time

We were silly for assuming that Samus wins an all-females contest wihtout competition

Samus, Tifa and Vincent (Despite uncertainty in regards to Kerrigan's strength) look to be the front runners for this contest. Even I wouldn't have given Vincent that credit in all my fanboyism before the contest started, let alone Tifa who is consistenly shown to be less favored by the fanbase.

Cloud
Sephiroth
Tifa
Vincent
Aeris
Red XIII
Cid
Yuffie
Jenova
Rufus

I think that's all. I doubt if Barret or Cait Sith would be worth anything. Hojo might have a shot at not being fodder.

I'd put the Turks over Vyse without question. It's not like people don't know who they are. I'd be quite surprised if the FFVII abandoned personal faves like the Turks for Vyse. I'm not calling for a 60%+ blowout, but I don't think it would be close. For some reason, Vyse is being looked at as a pinnacle of popularity. How many people honestly even knew who he WAS before he got in the contest?

Barret and Cait Sith would be able to beat Vyse, Tediz.

I'm going to say almight Sephiroth Man (Powerful Man, Sephiroth Man) and all the PCs and reserve myself from that point. If an NPC other than Seph were to beat the line, howver, I'd leave it to Rufus, Hojo, or Zack.

I'm not saying I don't think people know who they are, not at all; however, I'm skeptical about how big their fans are, both in fanboyism and in numbers. Not that I'd take Vyse in a blowout against them, but I'd take Vyse nonetheless.

To note, I dunno if any of them are in FF:AC, which could make the difference.

Hmm, yeah, forgot about Jenova. Usually don't consider it a character, just a thing.

Seifer obviously missed it due to not being villain enough.

Seymour should have been in, if not you know who. Sin may be connected to a popular character, but the S man and *FFX Spoilers* would actually get the votes.

Samus, Tifa and Vincent (Despite uncertainty in regards to Kerrigan's strength) look to be the front runners for this contest.

I'm very glad you qualified that. I'd hate for Vincent to have gone from having beaten up on a new character with unknown strength, to possible division winner, to likely division winner post Magus/Knuckles, to "front runner for the contest", on the basis of nothing but the result of a match where he wouldn't have faced either opponent anyway and Tifa killing fodder.

And yes, Vyse is fodder, regardless of whoever decided to draw an arbitrary line at around about his level.

Who says it's all Vyse sucking? I see now why people say measuring through fodder is stupid. Tifa = Samus? Dubya tee effe? If Tifa = Samus, Dante = Mario (because I still can't see Terra losing to Vyse by any sort of a significant margin, if at all), magazine it!

Luigi will break 40% on Tifa (though I'm not saying Tifa < Squall here), stats be damned. I don't care how that affects 2k5 Vyse, 2k5 KOS MOS, or 2k3 Raiden, it's just a random claim that I have a feeling will work out. But I'll drop it now until the match in Round 2. </random rant>

"And yes, Vyse is fodder, regardless of whoever decided to draw an arbitrary line at around about his level."

Right now, assuming Vyse is steady from last year, you could put Samus here and the result would be the same. Frankly, this only says good things for Vincent as he has always been more favored by the FF7 fanbase than Tifa.
