OK, seeing the topic is dying, I go on with another question...

What about Master Chief vs Donkey Kong? DK has any chance for you?

Once again, absolutely not. Super CATS is tough, even tougher against anti-vote magnet Master Chief. I'm thinking Master Chief will win much more comfortably than most expect.

I think DK is set to surprise here. He beat Sam Fisher almost as well as Magus did and if we're to assume that Magus > Frog then we have to consider the possibility that this match could be very, very close.

I still think Master Chief shall win, although MC and DK's first round results got me a little worried...

It may just be that CATS has had a combination of the factor you said, though... and that MC will win easily...

I have the solution to Magus Vs. Knuckles. I can't believe we didn't see it before.

Magus 2003 = Magus 2005
Knuckles 2005 = Sonic 2003

The small margin of victory is clearly seen in the Magus/Sonic relationship in the 2003 X-Stats. This makes total sense, or as much sense as Magus dropping like a brick.

Magus was overrated, that's clear as day to see. It wasn't him just dropping like a brick. It is unlikely he was ever really that strong to begin with, for whatever reason.

You can make sense of Magus 'dropping' more than you can Knuckles increasing. =p

<_<

He might not have been overrated, in the year 2003. That's possibly just how strong he was, in that year. He could have then gone on to drop in 2004, and even further this year. When you adjust things to make them make sense in the context of previous years, things get iffy.

I just want Knuckles to win, is all.

He was probably just overrated. Tidus took a very similiar drop between 2003 and 2004. Of course who knows what happenend to Tidus between 2002 to 2004. He was probably overrated a bit in 2002 (which would explain why Claire is so high), but not that much. He has just been frefalling over the years.

Leon's Quest For Ultimate Glory:
1. Tripling Gordon Freeman.
From: ChichiriMuyo | Posted: 8/13/2005 4:13:03 PM | Message Detail
I could actually see Rikku over Tidus at this point, while I couldn't two years ago. Don't take this as repect for X-2, either. Frankly, it seems to that as the game ages the more the favorites (Rikku and Auron) will show themselves to be the better representatives over the leads (Tidus and Yuna).

The reasoning for this is that everyone has a limit to their attention span, and people who have FFX in their recent memory might support Tidus out of general good feelings for the game while they'd forget about him when newer and better things come along. People who pick a favorite, though, are much less likely to forget that favorite when the next best thing comes along. It's for that reason that Kefka is so much more powerful than Terra and also why she's not far off from Ultros.

Being the main character only matters if it's within recent memory or people actually liked the main. FF7, long out of recent memory, featured a main that many people consider likable. For that Cloud hangs tough. FF8, likewise on the memory deal, featured a love him or hate him character in Squall (though for most the whle game was that way). For that Squall was at his best when he returned to recent memory with Kingdom Hearts. Zidane, also a few years off now, hasn't shown signs of being much (if any) stronger than Kefka and certainly doesn't look prime to beat Vivi.

While the main will always hold a good deal of sway over people (because every character has at least a few fans, and others vote for the main in memory of a good game) the favorites, should they prove their place in the fanbase, will less likely be reduced in strength and may often prove stronger than their leads. I think, at this point, the only reason we've assumed the opposite to be true was because the only examples have been characters that were rightfully the favorites along with being the leads.

They don't have to.

You'd just have to be crazy to think that after 4 years, Gordon Freeman didn't drop AT ALL from 1998 to 2002 due to Half-Life being old and him fading from memory completely, being as immemorable as he was.

Half-Life 2 will make up for any theoretical drop that would have happened in those 4 years.

Sorry Slow, you and I are both in the dark for ToS, it seems. I really only know what I hear.

"Nicely said, but we still have characters like Crono whom seem to represent the game itself more than being liked for his individual character, and he's still one of the strongest forces here..."

And I'll repeat... I think, at this point, the only reason we've assumed the opposite to be true was because the only examples have been characters that were rightfully the favorites along with being the leads.

Frankly, I know that many people on this board will disrespect that opinion, but I know I would vote Crono over Magus myself and I'm not the only one. His part in the game is bigger, to many people he probably looks cooler, and despite what some people say he's a very likable character. He isn't just the lead, but also the favorite character of most people who don't consider themselves among the hardcore of CT fans... I leave it to you to assume which group would be larger.

I think it's a combo of being the main character, having a personality that would only work FOR a main character, and being far and away the most kickass in battle definitely helps.

I also hate Kirby vs Tidus. #1 favorite character vs #3 favorite character

#2 vs. #3 here, then Bowser took out a top 15, and might take out my #10, and I do like the Koopa King pretty well. Then I've got my #1 vs. my #6 next round, my #8 vs. my #13 tomorrow, facing my #5 next round.

And I've had my #6 vs. my #7 every year in this contest, and #7 vs. #1 in year 1. #3 vs. #4 in 2003, #1 vs. #3 in 2004, #8 vs. #11 in 2004, followed by #1 vs. #11.

So yeah, my favorites face off a lot in this thing.

This match certainly points to a huge overperformance on kefka's part against wesker. A static luca and static magus through 2k4 to 2k5 points to the same thing, but this is much more concrete.

How much do you all think angel kefka caused him to overperform by?

Damn, and I thought I had it rough with Magus/Knuckles (#2 vs. #7) and Samus/Frog (#3 vs. #6). I've had #4 vs. #3 (Link/Samus 2003) and #5 vs. #3 twice (Sonic/Samus). Outside of that I can't think of much.

6 vs. 7 every year = Solid > Knux, 7 vs. 1 = Solid > Squall. 3 vs. 4 = Kirby vs. Alucard, 1 vs. 3 = Squall vs. Kirby, 8 vs. 11 = Cloud > Vyse, 1 vs. 11 = Cloud > Squall.
