Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 198

There was a lot more SFF in Bowser vs. Ness, believe me...more than most SFF matches, in fact.

"Unless you seriously believe that the SFF between Bowser and Ness is significantly greater than the one between Cloud and Auron."

I do, actually, because the lion's share of Ness fanbase comes from a game he shares with Bowser. Cloud and Auron have overlapping fanbases but 90% of Auron's doesn't come from a game that also has Cloud in it.

"About CJ, I've said it before that we're simply overestimating him, there's nothing more to it."

Yeah, he's no Vercetti, but he does have enough contest strength to show Ness clearly is underestimated in 2k3.

"Remember when this topic was a place to get away from the flamewars on the board."

I've been here pretty much since the begining (missed the first 3 only) and no, I don't. And, what with us all having more experience (and more opinions) with the contest I wouldn't expect us to act less territorial and do less headbutting. As I implied in regards to Yesmar if you aren't the type who can deal with that this isn't the topic for you. We are here to discuss (and therefore debate) stats subject. This leads to arguments, that's just how it is.

You're kidding, right?
That's like saying Earthbound never existed.
I can buy up to 50%, but 90% from SSBM...

Btw, I'm sure that at least 70% of those who played FF X has played FF VII beforehand.
There really isn't that much reason to buy an FF game over other RPG's unless you're familiar with the franchise.

Yeah, he's no Vercetti, but he does have enough contest strength to show Ness clearly is underestimated in 2k3.

I do know that Ness is under-rated in 2k3, but the amount by which he got under-rated I won't agree with.

Again, there are more of us and those of us who have been here a long time have grown more opinionated due to our long experience. Jus tlook at the pace we go at... I remember when our record for fastest topic was 12 days (and had me arguing a lot). Now 12 hours is a joke on a good match. It is more intense, and it won't stop being that way.

Ugh, so I was gone all day at a concert, and was hoping that Magus could somehow make a come back so my bracket isn't screwed to all hell.... but then I get home, refresh the poll that I left up, and what do I see? Knux is still solidly in the lead.... Gah...

We should all realize that this is all destiny. Knuckles will never lose in the first round... What a crazy red bastard.

Thanks for killing my -1 bracket, Mr. Echidna.

This is one of the biggest upsets. Ever.

"You're kidding, right?
That's like saying Earthbound never existed."

Look at Giygas... heck, look at Earthbound in the sp2k4 where it does about as well as Shenmue. It exists, but it's worthless outside of actually getting him into the contest. Yes, I said 90, and I still say that it's closer to 90 than 50 even if I was exagerating.

"Btw, I'm sure that at least 70% of those who played FF X has played FF VII beforehand."

But Cloud and Auron aren't in the same game, and that counts.

"I do know that Ness is under-rated in 2k3, but the amount by which he got under-rated I won't agree with."

I know you don't, but Scorpion says that Auron is still underrated in 2k4 so you aren't proving much here, especially since Scorp > Zero > Sonic > Cloud is cleaner than Ness > Bowser will ever be.

Cloud over Link wasn't as much as an upset overall since by the time the match actually happened we had Cloud doubling Sonic so anyone who went into the match not thinking that Cloud was going to win or at least make it a VERY close match was delusional.

I can imagine Squall/Luigi would be more shocking... granted, I wasn't here in 2k3, but the match was 60/40. Magus is at least keeping it close.

Using Tails to adjust Auron and by using the amount of SFF Ness got I almost perfectly predicted MH's spot (by using base Ganondorf). I also wouldn't think Mario would beat Ness by too much more then Bowser did. The Earthbound fans will vote Ness over anything.

So, not counting Clinkeroth, there are only 9 characters now who have won a match from 2002-2005 (Once MM and Sonic win):

Mario
Samus
Snake
Ryu
Crono
Dante
Knuckles
Sonic
Mega Man

Lots of 2002 snubs have won from 2003-2005 at least once, and there are some who are 3-1 in the four contests (Kirby, Tidus, Alucard).

We'll never agree on this so I'll leave it at that.

But Cloud and Auron aren't in the same game, and that counts.

I think it's the fanbase overlap that counts, look at Cloud vs. Squall, Crono vs. Kefka, etc.

I know you don't, but Scorpion says that Auron is still underrated in 2k4 so you aren't proving much here, especially since Scorp > Zero > Sonic > Cloud is cleaner than Ness > Bowser will ever be.

Wait, I see where you're going with this.
You're trying to justify Auron > Ganon, aren't you?
If that's the case, I quit, I know you won't listen anyway.

I'll just state my stand then, should Auron had "clean" runs in both 2k3 and 2k4, he'll rank higher in 2k3.
I'm sure Seph SFF'ed him somewhat in 2k4, but certainly not as bad as Cloud did in 2k3.

And Geno drops like a rock.

On another note, there's quite a good chance that no one will even get a one. There's only three of them left, presumably all failed zero brackets, and it'd only take one more upset to take those three down (up?) another peg.
