I'm thinking that this is more of a case of Magus dropping as well as being overrated. However, although I believe Squall > Knuckles, I'm expecting the match to be very close.

If Squall beats Magus, mybracket is looking mighty good. Too bad I'm ineligible.

Here's my lame hypothesis on why I think Knuckles is beating Magus:

(1) Magus was fairly strong in 2003, but never as strong as Solid Snake or Sonic. However, he was a good votedrawer, and we saw how well he did on Link.

(2) Luca Blight sucked horribly. Magus decreased greatly in 2004, despite slaughtering Luca, as evidenced by his vote totals. The voting pool shifted a bit, and Magus is no longer a vote draw. His casual appeal has clearly droped.

(3) Here we have Knuckles, the splitting image of badass in red, versus a tiny, pale picture of Magus. The ultimate casual owner versus an unappealing character from Chrono Trigger. The day vote is obvious.

I never expected much out of Frog anyway. I believe is has over-performed on all his opponents thus far, and will bomb against Samus.

So, it's not that I think Frog will drop, but just be exposed as weak.

Magus was clearly overrated, it was just a question of how much. I for one didn't think he was this overrated. Knuckles might have gained a bit, but I'm putting this down to Magus failing rather than Knux having a big gain.

Magus was projected to win with 61.71% - 65.55% going by Knuckles adjusted/unadjusted values -- these both hold Magus at his 2003 level.

However, if you strictly use the unadjusted stats, Magus was ahead by 0.02%.
