I am in absolute awe right now. Hot damn, do I love this; Knuckles just has to keep this up.

You know what's REALLY weird though? Those who would have taken Master Chief over Magus nowadays very well could have been right (I know, I used to be one of them for awhile, heh).

This makes all those Ulti/Leonhart arguements over Squall/Magus a waste of time...

Not true.

There are still braggin right to be had and base stats.

If Magus Loses here...

the stats on the Knux/Squall match would give a good idea for what Magus/Squall could have been.

If Squall were to beat knuckles... braggin rights would still be obtained.

My bracket is:

Dante>Vincent
Squall>Knuckles

Squall>Dante

It seems to be one of the less usual predictions. My reasoning was that last year I felt Kefka proved that the SNES Squaresoft RPG characters (outside of Crono) are far less popular then the boards make him out to be. Last year Knuckles beat Kefka. I believe the year before that Kefka and Pac-Man had a very hard time against eachother. Magus got stuck with Crono in the 2nd round last year, and the time before that he just barely beat out Ganondorf before losing terribly to Link.

I may have unestimated Vincent's popularity but ultimately, he was against Karrigan, someone that probably wasn't very popular herself. I see Vincent as a fourth-tier in FF7 (Behind Cloud, Sephiroth and Aeris) so it's hard for me to swallow that being able to beat a character of upper middle popularity (where I classify Dante who's usually gotten far in these tournaments before being beat out by one of the big 4 or so. Last year it was Sonic).

Finally I think the anti-FF8 mentality has been over analyzed and over hyped. For one as a game gets older, people who didn't like it simply don't feel as much passion towards that fact anymore. Secondly, after losing to Snake in the first contest, Squall managed to beat Luigi in the 2nd one and even do reasonably well against Samus.

Is any of that believable or am I just trying to justify a bad bracket?

Curse you, Solid Snake, for never ever getting us a good reading on Knuckles... I can't believe Magus is actually going to lose this match... He started as a lock to win his division, but now he'll be lucky if he can make it out of the first round... ugh... Though I am happy for Knuckles, he continues to make it out of the first round again... and this time he meets with Squall...

Well, once again, my bracket is shot. Thanks a lot, Devil division, I had a -1 before you came along!!

Squall > Knuckles
Vincent > Squall

Yes I was.

There are a lot of different characters this year. Vincent is really an unknown so it's hard to predict how he'll do so usually I think people take a character in the same franchise or game (I was guilty of that by assuming because Tommy beat DK therefor CJ shouldn't have a problem with Ness) and sometimes assume the new character has less popularity then the original. Which is usually somewhat true but how much less popular is really the question. Luigi might have been assumed to be almost as popular as Mario but this has been proven before as not the case.

Wow. Congratulations to Knuckles on what is quite possibly the biggest board upset ever.

You know, with the way that Old Square characters are getting hammered, coupled with Knuckles' stellar performance, we could conceivably have a Mario/Sonic final that is actually in question. How kickass would that be?

The thing about all my losses thus far is, I haven't chosen them to go any farther then the next round. I had CJ losing to Mario (ness will instead), I had Vivi losing to snake (zelda will instead), I had Kefka losing to Crono (Tommy V. will instead), and now I had magus losing to squall next round, so it's honestly not that big of a deal. 5 points is nothing really...although it does piss me off quite severely that a character with no real back story or character besides "cool" is winning.
