So what the bloody hell happened with Magus/Link in 2k3? I always figured that he was overrated due to the 2k3 Magus bandwagon, but that would have to be one HELL of a bandwagon for him to drop this much... More like a bus....

I wouldn't possibly think it would have to do with Link... unless his Legend of Zelda sprite hurt him, but I doubt it would be to this magnitude. And I don't see why Chrono Trigger sprites would perform much better. It's not like their artwork isn't photogenic. The CT characters are some of the best looking characters IN the contest.

Or maybe I could add this into my non-linearity theory... It may be that Knuckles may have blossomed now that he isn't tied down under Snake. Otherwise, I'm completely clueless on Magus/Link.

I said this before, but I'm pretty sure it's already been mentioned--is there going to be a more 'casual' factor affecting the results, due to the poll being higher on the page than it was last summer (at least I think it is, I remember being pissed when they moved it down but I don't know far it went down)?

I *think* it may have gone back up, but that's because I use classic view and never noticed that it wasn't that low for most. =/

Too bad my bracket is straight cookie cutter. I just don't like taking upsets, even though I know they're inevitable. Unless of course they are due to seeding and not strength, like Alucard over Kratos.

The only thing I can think of is that CT characters vastly overperform when they get sprites, and that Link's sprite actually hurt him.

Then it's my hope Magus survives this onslaught by Knux and picks up a sprite versus Squall second round. But hell, it might be *Geno* the way this contest is going.

If Dante gets the same sprite that he did last year he will get destroyed, although I'm not really sure what Vincent would get.

Link doesn't look great, and the Sprite Theory has been making the rounds for a while now.

The main thing that doesn't make sense is Tidus dropping so much from 2K2 to 2K3. But, if he didn't drop then, he apparently dropped later.

Who the **** knows though. No one saw this coming, so all reasoning would be after-the-fact, and thus not entirely satisfactory. If someone had actually predicted this beforehand with some theory, that theory would gain credibility; but as it is, all we can do is make up unconvincing speculation.

I was wondering what the thoughts were on Link vs. Cloud, or if anything so far in the contest has given anyone reason to feel differently about their choice.

I'm still confident in Link, as Twilight Princess hype has been building for the past years, but this one really can go either way. Advent Children may have a greater impact than I anticipate, but more than that, this match is unpredictable because it's the first "one shot deal" we've ever had. Neither Cloud nor Link will have the traditional two months to show us their strength, establish their fanbases, and trounce everyone in preparation. It's just one match and they're done, and either one can take it.

For the curious, this is exactly what Knuckles did against Kefka. He then firmly established about 3-4 hours into the poll that he was going to win, then took off with the day vote.

Given the strength of Magus, Knuckles could very well win this thing by 5000 votes or more.
