I wasn't trying to argue with you. I really tried to like the game (and, I guess, unlike most people, 80% or more of an RPG is it's battle system to me), and I couldn't get in to it. I guess I was predisposed against Cloud because I despise his character design, but eh. I can see why some people might like him. He just doesn't appeal to me.

I also say if Tifa and Leon impress a lot they should be star of the round.

Im not completely sure Zelda SHOULDNT be. Kerrigan is a board creation and as such her strength could be anything. Zelda went from a toss of a coin pick versus Vivi to a serious threat against Snake.

I'm actually going to agree with Zelda. I expected Vincent to be this strong in the first place(But not Kerrigan to be that weak). Zelda came out of absolutely nowhere and I'm seriously fearing her beating Snake.

I have a feeling Snake/Zelda is gonna be the next Ocelot/Wily. A match that is overhyped due to each characters' first round performances, and ends up being a match were the winner (Snake) is never in question.

The problem with the first round is its been marked by its underperformances more than its overperformances. The three top guys looked good. But outside those 3 plus Zelda, Ness and Vincent there has been only dissapointments.

I don't know about that. If Vince can pull close to what Sonic did last year(62/38), and accounting for the DMC3 increase (admittedly unlikely) I'd be very inclined to take Vincent over a 51/49 Zelda.

The reason I still think Dante over Vincent has a chance is that I'm really not completely sure of where he lies strength-wise. If you look at the list of the Noble 9, elites or near-elites, most of them have had established fanbases before GameFAQs existed. Most of them originate from the NES/SNES/PS1/N64 days. Yet there are a few exceptions like MC, the FFX cast, and the GTA guys. And they, more so then other characters, have been quite inconsistant. Since their fanbases haven't become as secure and established as older characters, people like casuals don't have as strong feelings about them. They are the characers who are made or broken by each new game. And in theory, DMC3 could be a big game for Dante, especially considering DMC2 helped him and no one even liked it.

All I'm saying is that if people really wanted seph to lose so badly they wouldn't have voted for him in every match leading up to his last two. It doesn't make that much sense for them to do that. FF7 does get some hate, but not nearly as much as you seem to be claiming.

Alright, one more thought before I'm out:

It's unlikely, but is there any chance of a mild case of SFF in favor of Vincent in Vincent/Dante due to similarities in badass style and both Sony staple games?

Between an uncertain DMC3 increase and a couple points based on that, you're going to have people calling a 57/43 Vincent match for example, as indications of anywhere between a bow out to Magus or a close match with Crono?
