If Vincent/Squall does happen I see Vincent SFFing Squall and winning pretty easily.

So who do you guys think is the bigger bomb in failing to meet their expected contest strength... Kuja or Kerrigan?

Kuja. Unlike Kerrigan, Kuja lost to a joke entry.

Summer 2005 Contest - 20/22 points
Current Match Prediction: Magus vs. Knuckles the Echidna
From: Aprosenf | Posted: 8/9/2005 6:03:53 PM | Message Detail
Ok, I'm finally caught up. First things first: Let me take a good hearty laugh at at the current match results.

HAHAHAHAHA, GOOOO VINCENT!!!

Now that that's out of my system, back to discussion. I said during the spring contest that I would place Ansem over Kerrigan, and some of you (*cough* HM *cough*) called me crazy. Not so crazy any more, eh?

And anyone who thinks Dante stands a chance against Vincent is only kidding themselves in defense of their bracket. Wanting those points so badly blinds you to the obvious truth that Vincent is going to blow out Ulti-style (à la SSBM/MGS2) Dante at the very least. I'm quite worried at the moment of my Squall over Vincent pick, and I'm hoping that Kerrigan is even more fodderific than she looks, but Squall has a far greater chance of beating Vincent than Dante.

I'm calling Magus with 55% tomorrow. I really want to say BOOK IT, but I'll stick with "I think he'll probably do it, but I won't deny there's a decent chance he won't."

On another matter, I never thought Cloud in KH resembled Vincent until the board brought it up in the pre-spring contest musings. I can sort of see where you're coming from, but frankly I don't think the resemblance is great enough to cause Cloud's appearance in KH to give Vincent any sort of a boost whatsoever.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to refer to Gordon Freeman versus Tanner as Schrodinger's Match. -Phoenix Flattener

FACT: Vincent didn't get a boost from KH

FACT: Vincent is strong because he's Vincent from Final Fantasy VII

FACT: Hype from AC and DoC boosts Vincent although not significant, but at least a lil..

Why because he blew away a board favorite character that we have no info on. We may as well call Dante/Vincent a first round match because we have no new info.

Oh, there's certainly no reason to believe Vincent would somehow benefit from Cloud's design in KH. But he pretty much does share quite a few similarities. I noticed they looked similar the first time I saw him.

We don't know for sure if Vincent > Dante from today's match.. Obviously it's because we have no info on Kerrigan or Terra.. Let's just wait and see round 2 when Dante versus Vincent and then rub it in all you want.. But yes, it is safer to claim, nothing more that Vincent > Dante

You're wrong char, at 79.1% for Vincent if Kerrigan = JC Denton then you get a score of 30.85, .17 away from cn's Bowser and a full 1.1% ahead of Alucard.

It's not like we actually know Kerrigan's strength. She could be weaker than Gordon Freeman for all we know.

Yes, you really do. Not you specifically, but a good deal of other people. Being happy that vincent is destroying kerrigan, and screaming "LOL in ur FACE VINCENT PWNS J00!" repeatidly are two completely seperate things. Reminds me of when starcraft always fell behind during the day and retook the lead at night except not quite as bad.

Nothing wrong with expressing joy at a beloved character's success, but the way most of us have been acting is unbecoming of Stats and Board veterans, at least in my view. What I've seen for the last 18 hours is the equivalence of the 1992 Dream Team crushing the Algerians by 70 points, walking up to their bench, and yelling "PWNED! OMG PWNED WE SO CALLED THIS!" I just think we're above that.

Not exactly. It's just that when you whine like a baby about people bringing up the fact that you got DK vs Vivi wrong, it seems a wee bit hypocritical to try and make fun of someone for a whole day when they put some thought into a match and end up being wrong. I'd care a lot less if you bashed me for the first hour or so, and then dropped it.

OK, big time pet peeve of time: when people act like those disagreeing with them are talking like children. That is just so immature.

And the only thing we've been saying is how irrational it was to expect this match to be close in the first place. Can you honestly doubt that? I mean for god's sake, look at the score man!

Really, I wouldn't take any of this "In your face!" or whatever type comments personally. That's only natural when you predict something and argue it to the point where you just KNOW you're right. Hell, I've been through a ton of crap from other people before about getting matches wrong.

It only lasts for a day, but it's to be expected when you get a match wrong and made sure that you had an opinion every time an argument about the match came up. Sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong.

Uh, that was your topic. I never made any topic about this match. (I actually rarely make topics at all)

It was? Hm... Well, regardless, that was the closest thing to saying anyone was in for anything. Hell, straight from my analysis:

"Well, I%u2019m of the opinion that Vincent and Kerrigan will end up having a close match, in true Starcraft style. I also feel that Kerrigan will end up squeaking by with a win."

"So overall, I expect a close match that will start with Kerrigan doing well, continue with Vincent taking the lead, and end with a Kerrigan comeback. No matter what happens though, it will be a great match."

Those don't sound like arrogant declarations of unrivaled superiority to me.

That more or less sums it up nicely. Some people just seem to act incredibly childish whenever their right about any of these matches. A simple ribbing given to someone incredibly vocal towards a match isn't a big deal, and is all in good fun, but some of these people are going out of their way to piss everyone off so they can feel better about themselves. It's kind of pathetic. The actual vets on this topic haven't gone much beyond a normal ribbing for the most part though, it's mainly the rest of the board that seems to be acting very childish.
