Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 188

So... whoa. Whoa whoa whoa. I just took a nap after the last time
Slowflake called it and, well I'm sure you can guess my shock. I
checked the autoupdater and was like "OMG! Vercetti got 1500 cheated
votes all at once! CJayC is gonna own him!"
What a day.

if 1800 was indeed the exact number of cheated votes, Vercetti would be
up 57. this match could really have been something if no cheating was
detected.
we'd probably be on #190.

I doubt that yoblazer, but it well take offa point for many serious
contenders. Casuals probably favoured vercetti due to kefka's general
obsucrity. I think it well be like ness vs. cj with most casuals
picking vercetti even if this well ravage the brackets that stand a
chance.

Query: Do you think this match shows kefka getting stronger, vercetti getting weaker, or a bit of both?
A Vercetti drop, easily. Assuming he continues to even make it in the contest, this guy will be complete fodder in a few years. Mark my words.

You know, if that topic is true and Romero actually has been cheating
for three years in most big matches, it puts into question every close
match we've ever had. This is like steroids in baseball all over again,
but applied to us.

So -- does Kefka have any chance of returning next year, should
there be another contest? Or does this latest loss & besmirchment
forever sully his reputation?
Yes and yes. I think that Kefka could get in yet again, but he'd probably need the absence of a cap to do it. Being identified as a cheater is bad, but not insurmountable (hi, Mr. Silent Death).
Query: Do you think this match shows kefka getting stronger, vercetti getting weaker, or a bit of both? I'd say kefka has probably done a bit of gaining myself. More then vercetti has done dropping at least.
As loathe as I am to point at San Andreas as an example, I think there's every indication that GTA as a whole is getting weaker in a contest setting. Kefka may have risen a bit, too, but I put most of the blame on Vercetti in this one.
---
Season 20 starts with a bang, as Claude Kenni and Hiro pit their swords against each other in Heavy! Who will win? Find out at rpgdl.com!

And I want to thank George Romero for making an awesome match out of an otherwise Shadow/Tidus affair.

Well, Kefka got 57% of the brackets on his side against Knuckles last
year, and that was a 7/10 seed match. This time it's 3/6 in Kefka's
favor, so I assume he'll benefit from that yet again. Also, when taking
into account Kefka's impressive (relatively speaking) Spring Contest,
and the fact that CJ couldn't even get a bracket majority, I think
Kefka will have little trouble in netting more bracket support here.

I really doubt he did. The topic creator likely is just doing it for attention and doesn't even know the vote stuffer (forgot his name already). That should be obvious though, but even if he did know him I wouldn't take the claim too seriously. People who do this kind of thing, regardless of what it's in generally have a very inflated ego that they well attempt to boost with ridiculous statements.

Query: Do you think this match shows kefka getting stronger, vercetti getting weaker, or a bit of both?
I contribute this to several things: the lack of a Hawaii shirt, Kefka being behind Diablo (who got no linkage when he lost the next round), and that Zero was likely SFF'd by Mega Man (even if just minimally). I don't really contribute this to either Kefka gaining OR Vercetti weakening.
---

Lewis Black: Namely as valued contributors to our re-election fund.

Good points all around. I didn't realize that he was the bracket favourite against knux. If that's the case then 60% is probably a very conservative estimate. I just figured kefka was probably somewhat obscure to the casual bracket maker.

M4***** (11:18:43 PM): One more thing if you're still there. Do you
really talk to Ulti often? Because he makes it seem like you do.
CJayC (11:19:45 PM): He's one of the few on this account's list. Of course, I'm only on this account a few times a month. But, I suppose if you were to add up the time of all the people I talk to who I don't actually work with, he's in the top 10.
By the way, I'm talking to M4 now. He claims that he has cheated in every close match since 2002, and something tells me that he's not lying.

Ulti, may I just ask/request of you one thing. In your eventual write-up of this match, are you going to refrain from mentioning names? Because if the vote-stuffer's name is indoctrinated into a contest write-up, no doubt he will be giddy. The man is an attention whore and it would be best if he was not remembered.

Oh, and after thinking through a little more I suppose Kefka will be the favorite by a slight amount. Urgh...I want there to be at least ONE match with a prediction percentage under 50%. The fewest literal upsets in Round 1 we've had was 2, way back in SC2K2...

You know, this really does create a bit of a problem, because I can't
really say any way in which we can conceivably keep Romero from vote
stuffing in future matches -- sure, ban his usermap and IP, but
nothing's going to keep him from still visiting the site with a
different IP and without logging in.

Er...I don't know what I was saying. If Kefka was the favorite,
obviously less than 50% would have this match called correctly. *smacks
forehead*

"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?"
"Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."
