So -- does Kefka have any chance of returning next year, should there
be another contest? Or does this latest loss & besmirchment forever
sully his reputation?

Actually I might have to put Luigi/Squall somewhere near the top 10 too. Just because of the explosion.

So SC's victory over Wind Waker is much more impressive, IMO.
In some ways I agree, but in others I don't. Starcraft finally proved that seeding doesn't matter by being the first 16 seed and only 16 seed to ever win a match (correct me if I'm wrong). I realize many people were expecting it to fall to wind waker, but I thought it was more spectacular for it to win a match where it was such an unbelievable underdog. At least heading into it's WW match starcraft had proven itself to have some real legtiimate strength.

I remember doing a pre-poll for Starcraft/WW on the board. SC won with EASE.
By the way, a question about Ceej's graph. When did the cheating start? Was it before Kefka had a lead of 1100 or after?

increase at the same interval every 100 votes.

I think Mega Man vs. Ms. Pac-Man deserves an honorable mention for best
match...it went in a direction nobody thought possible. Nobody believed
a character could break 90% at that time, and especially not against a
well-known character. It was such a funny moment when I submitted my
vote and saw Mega Man with over 93% of the vote, when the biggest
blowout before that was 84/16 with Link/Little Mac.
Hm, Ms. Pac-Man is by far, far, far the weakest character to date that is widely known...the runner would be...probably somebody like Pikachu, or Ratchet, if you think he counts. (If you haven't heard of Ratchet you probably don't know a lot that's going on with games today)
---
"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?"

It's always an actual concession. I had little to no doubt Kefka would win from the moment I first saw the results this morning. You need a lot of luck on your side to overcome a 1000-vote deficit and still win in the end. Only Samus and Starcraft have ever done it.

Anyone who stayed up the entire night (like I did) could probably tell you there was a very weird pattern going on. Kefka would stall and increase at the same interval every 100 votes.
I agree with that, and noticed myself. But the problem with that statement is that accusations of cheating have been thrown around so many times and you'll see weird things in auto-updated polls so many times that you can't really pick apart the regular fluctuations from the true anomalies.
Of course, now we'll start crying foul every time we see something odd happen, much like baseball fans do.

So how much cheating did both sides have again? I know CJayC said 1800
of Kefka's were "vote stuffered" but is that the full number or just
most of what he found? And how much was found on Vercettis part? Cause
the chart is a little confusing. I mean, its good, and I think I get
the point, I just want a little more details.

The first surge of the cheat votes is almost perfectly allign to
Kefka's fairly large push during the beginning of the day vote.
The next few big surges are around the same time of the large stalls at 400 and 200 vote lead for Kefka. Then the comeback.

Well it got to the point where ChichiriMuyo and I started being able to accurately predict exactly when Kefka would take off and stall. It was errie to say the least.

So.... does this change the way of thinking of the stats topic as a
whole? This is pretty much PROOF that close matches are pretty much
ALWAYS skewed due to the mass vote stuffing.
Of course, I'm glad that vote stuffing exists, because I don't WANT stats that are able to predict things to a T. Takes all variety out of the contest.

I agree. I don't recall this type of pattern in the Frog/MC and Frog/Liquid matches, more so just mass surges for them. Not vote stuffing or anything, I'm sure they're mighta been a little bit perhaps, but I remember watchin one of those matches pretty closely and it was nothing like Kefka/Vercetti's pattern.

Oh, and a quick note about CJay's "vote stuffing" comment.
The man is not an idiot. He's well aware that people can and do vote with multiple accounts in the polls. The problem is that almost every time there is a large effort from people doing it, the cheating is even. Even in today's poll, two regular, well-known users with multiple accounts did the same thing; but they canceled each other out due to each of them cheating for one of the characters. This almost always happens every time the issue is even brought up; Frog/Chief is about the only case where looking at the individual IPs would have made a difference.
Why doesn't CJayC prevent this? Simple. Remember Pokémon/Xenogears before it was restarted? You'd see that in every single match if that type of a security measure were put in place. It sounds like it would be easy to prevent that (and it is), but the side effects would be massive and I doubt CJayC has the time to deal with writing code to fix all of them after making the change.

Cjay always seems to closely look at close matches to see if there is any chance of vote stuffing, and in the past has seen it, and put it to an end. I'm not saying he always catches it, but really massive vote stuffing like this seems hard to miss when you look at it as closely as he seems to (I'm assuming he closely examines it, given the graph he made).

Actually, he could just make it so that every unique IP can vote once instead of every unique account. That would cut down on a large amount of stuffing. Then the rest would be proxy votes, which he can detect pretty easily.

I maintain that 20% of all votes in every match is Not Dave's voting.

Speaking of 20%, I hope zidane manages to stay above that. Hopefully he
can even avoid a doubling. Maybe if he performs as well as vivi people
well stop claiming that vivi gains most of his styrength from being
designed as a generic black mage.

I think it's time for prediction percentages on Kefka/Vercetti.
I'll say 49%.

I say the prediction percentage will be 75-25 Vercetti originally then
cheating will be found and the predictions will be changed to 55-45.

Query: Do you think this match shows kefka getting stronger, vercetti
getting weaker, or a bit of both? I'd say kefka has probably done a bit
of gaining myself. More then vercetti has done dropping at least.

All we need is one decent upset after this and I don't think the zero
brackets stand a chance. I don't think they'll be getting as far as
that last one did last year.
