Oh that reminds me, Kefka was also in the 20XX division...

Kefka and Vercetti got extrapolated through Mega Man, so we won't get anything from that match.

Actually, Master Chief is still a good deal off pace for 70%. Master Chief is currently only pulling in ~71.5% of the incoming votes when he needs ~72.7%. Unless this match gets a lot mroe votes later on, or Master Chief starts getting a larger percentage of the votes, he won't break 70%.

I love it when the same people who call the extrapolated stats reliable have to come up with all sorts of explanations and "factors" to justify them whenever something unexpected happens. Same Fanbase Factor, Pic Factor, West Division Factor, 20XX Division Factor, The Jug Factor, Nintendo/Square Factor, Day-Of-The-Week Factor, Battle.Net factor. This character was overrated, this character was underrated, and this one overperformed for no real reason. Bracket voting, anti-voting, franchise voting, anti-champion voting, "top name on the poll" voting, etc.

You guys are hilarious.

CATS isn't kicking ass, he's barely overperforming the 2k3 numbers which, for those two, I've backed for a year now. Combine that with the fact that MC hasn't yet hit his peak hours and you'll clearly see this match is going to end more in MC favor then you're all giving credit for.

What's wrong with calling him "CATS from AYB"? Would you argue that he's better known for being an actual Zero Wing character? I'd certainly hope not...

Anyways, I'm sure MC will keep rising at a decent rate. I mean, me, over-predicting an Oracle by 10%+? That's unpossible!

I was all for Master Chief increasing a lot from Halo 2. Possibly into the 30+% strength range. But with this pic...jeez. I can't see him getting over 77% at most. Even if CATS is at only 15% with this picture, and MC is at 32%, Master Chief won't break 77%. And I think that 16%/30% are more reasonable. The math really indicates MC getting in the low 70's here. Especially since I doubt MC would fall near his max value due to this horrendous picture.

I honestly think CATS has a shot to break 30% here.
-----

-----
From: creativename | Posted: 8/4/2005 2:03:29 AM | Message Detail | #443
There's nothing that outlandish about him getting close to 30% if you do the math. His spring least squares value was 16.9%; you can take that as his "face pic" value. If Master Chief is at 28% then CATS breaks 30%. I think that 16.9% is too high for CATS, but he's really not as weak as his reputation. And while I think XBox hate/Master Chief hate has died down, that picture would support an underperformance. Add in the fact that there's some people who believe that MC's position in last year's stats is misleading, and a Master Chief underperformance seems quite possible.

I really have a tough time seeing MC get into the high 70's here. This is similar to CJ/Ness; the math makes the consensus expectations somewhat tough to believe.
-----

As I said before, it was the numbers that flat-out indicated Master Chief would not perform to expectations. Just like CJ/Ness.

How someone could draw a completely backward conclusion from this result, when it was so evident to me beforehand, is beyond me.

As for Master Chief's strength, give FACE a value of 16% and a final result of 31% in this match, and Master Chief ends up at 25.8%; give FACE a value of 16.9% and he ends up at 27.2%. Under the 30% that I would have pegged him at before the contest, but not unexpected.

What RPGuy posted was pretty convincing. Master Chief isn't going to increase his proportion that much from where he already is. Like he said, 71% for MC is highly unlikely. Chief won't be moving up much more than a couple points.

Don't make aggressive, untrue posts without expecting to be called on them.

You make a post attacking something for your own amusement, even when your logic was tremendously flawed in an obvious manner.

The only factor needed here is "we should have seen this coming" factor.

Way to assume I'm talking about the match, creativename. My post was little more than a random rant. Seeing all of the discussions about 20XX and adjusting characters reminded me of how often I had seen conversations like that, and so I decided to post my thoughts, because I find the site of people listing off factors and random explanations humorous, when a couple of them are the same people that told me a long time ago that the stats are very reliable and nearly every match falls within a margin of error without fail. Not once did I mention Master Chief/CATS. And you say I'm embarrassing myself.

Arbiter vs Mega Man
Over at GameFAQsASCII.com, there's a Character Battle - Arbiter vs Mega Man. Only 75 people have voted at this point - wouldn't take much to sway this one. Thanks, Harrison. (I gotta say, I really don't understand the point of polls like this; I'm posting this one because we got a half-dozen emails about it, and I want them to stop. In fact, I think I'll take this opportunity to lay down new HBO policy - after this one, we won't be mentioning Character Battle-type polls any more here. So go vote in this one; it's the last one we'll cover.) (Louis Wu 11:36:34 UTC)

As an aside, what do Super Metroid, Disgaea, Doom 3, Super Mario Sunshine, Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Resident Evil 4, Goldeneye, GTA: San Andreas, Mortal Kombat 2, GTA: Vice City, Half-Life 2 (again), Battlefield 2, Goldeneye (again) and San Andreas (again) have in common?

Answer is they're the #1 answers in a "favourite video game ever" topic I'm running on the forums of another very well known website. I'll post the full findings when I'm done with it, but for now:

- the casuals love their violence, especially their FPS's
- the casuals have short memories
- stating the obvious is fun
- I'm showing the most love for Chrono Trigger in that nobody else has mentioned it at all :-)
