Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 181

So MC is pretty much completely on fire right now, which makes sense but is still interesting to watch.

Currently: 16/17 | Next: Donkey Kong
He's the leader of the pack, you know him well.

Shoot! The doubling just blindsided CATS

Wow, what a thrill to wake up and see CATS only getting doubled (though he will drop a lot in percentage as the day goes on).

For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to refer to Gordon Freeman versus Tanner as Schrodinger's Match. -Phoenix Flattener

Following on from my mostly ignored post a few topics ago, here's my pick of the winners and losers of these last two divisions:

1) Kirby

Justifying the 1-seed somewhat, scoring an impressive tripling when the board favourite had previously never doubled anybody.

2) Zelda

The only match in this section that had any real question marks over it, but any questions were quickly answered as Zelda nearly manages a 60-40 over Vivi.

3) Bowser

Could Bowser continue his form from the Spring? Chun Li could have been a potentially strong contender but Bowser makes her look like any non-Ryu Street Fighter, i.e. ordinary.

4) Solid Snake

Didn't have an opponent as bad as Tanner to beat up on, but was widely expected to beat Manny and did so, picking up the most votes of this section in the process.

5) Tidus

Was always expected to beat the King, did so but failed to treble, however this is the first comfortable win Tidus has ever had.

6) Sora

The match with Alucard is still in the balance, but for now all Sora needed to do was dispatch some fodder. Agent 47 provided little trouble as Sora picks up a first doubling.

7) Rikku

Ran a top-20 character close enough, picked up the most votes of a loser so far, and has justified inclusion in the contest.

8) Ryu

Won the match but looked distinctly ordinary in the process, making Bowser a favourite for what looked like being one of the closer second round match.

9) Alucard

Made heavy weather of Kratos but got the victory. All part of the plan? I don't know.

10) Kratos

Picked up over 40,000 votes in defeat against a solid veteran character. A better draw might have seen a win perhaps, but we won't know that. Justifies a return, but not with such a high seed.

11) Chun-Li

Avoided being doubled by one of the genuine threats in her division, but did little to suggest she's any better than any of the Street Fighter pack.

12) Agent 47

Labelled a potential neo-Tanner, but scraped together 25,000 votes out of somewhere. But this was against Sora who isn't hugely powerful.

13) King Of All Cosmos

Would avoiding the tripling count as a moral victory? Who knows.

14) Vivi

Had a chance to win in one of the more interesting first round matches, and completely failed to take it.

15) Manny Calavera

Part of the happy to be here crowd. Never had a chance.

16) Cecil

If Rikku shows the benefit of not having a company cap, Cecil shows why we should have one. Being tripled by Kirby of all things. Nothing to be proud of there.

Master Chief's % in the last half hour: 69.99%.

The day vote is starting and MC still can't hit 70%. If he breaks 70% by the end of the match, it won't be by much. Currently, even going through Face CATS, MC is under his 2k3 level.

This is by far and away the worst first round performance we've seen so far. The only other ones to come close are Vivi and CJ.

This performance contributes to the growing pile of evidence that Frog is a worthless fraud who had a ridiculous overperformance against Snake. First, Liquid bombed in the Spring, then Frog himself made Riku look stronger than anyone could have imagined, and now MC is completely blowing a match where he should have had no trouble getting a tripling. I can't wait until Samus exposes Frog for the pathetic snot he is.

Just because you consider it doesn't mean it's true. Prior to the villain contest Crash was far and away stronger.

CATS> Crash Bandicoot owns though. I love it.

Summer 2005 Contest - 14/16 points
Current Match Prediction: Master Chief vs. CATS
From: PiGuy96 | Posted: 8/4/2005 10:39:59 AM | Message Detail
Assuming that this match will end up with 95k votes:

For MC to hit 69%, he needs to pull in 70.49% of the remaining votes, ~3% more than he's pulled in thus far.

For MC to hit 70%, he needs to pull in 72.41% of the remaining votes, ~5% more than he's pulled in thus far.

For MC to hit 71%, he needs to pull in 74.34% of the remaining votes, ~7% more than he's pulled in thus far.

I think he'll end up between 69-70%. 71% is out of the question.

About how much of the vote does the late afternoon bring in in general? Because I could definitely see Master Chief pulling 75%-80% of that. No joke.

I still stand by that this is all CATS, and that Master Chief over Donkey Kong is still a total lock.

I'm almost convinced that CATS will never get above one of the bottom two seeds in a Summer Contest regardless of how many nominations he gets.
