Current Match Prediction: Master Chief vs. CATS

Anway, getting back to this match, I'd bet that Ryu is closer to his 2k3 value than his 2k4, for whatever reason. In which case even 2k3 Bowser edges him out. I do say this with some bias, because I am absolutely disgusted with the match results and I absolutely refuse to believe that Rikku would approach 30% on BL (there's another acronym for you, Ulti).

Looking ahead a bit, CATS and Kefka got the best combination of match pics that they could have hoped for. CATS gets his recognizable face shot against a somewhat bleh MC. And Kefka gets the only rendered shot of him that's halfway decent against a Vercetti that doesn't have his trademark shirt on. Good stuff.

I'm surprised by the Leon hype. I don't see him being any stronger than Jill, and if it wasn't for the massive nomination push by the board, he'd probably be seeded somewhere around Wesker. Of course, I've never been a big RE fan, but I think he's just another example of board chatter gone wild.

After looking at the match pics, I think Kefka is screwed. Vercetti got that same pic when Vice City went up against SSBM, while Kefka got his crappy FMV pic (the same one he got when he lost to Diablo). Good thing I have Vercetti in my bracket.

I think without the board push Kennedy wouldn't even have made it in with his 5 seed. The only ones that probably would've made it without the help are Ocelot, Lloyd.. and maybe Tifa (though she may have got company capped).

She does have two games, but Leon has the two most popular games under his belt (RE2 and RE4). Jill has RE1 and RE3. Leon has also been incredibly popular with people for quite a while now, his popularity definitely didn't just start. The only thing that I see as possibly advantageous that you listed is that she appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and had appearances in the Resident Evil: Apocalypse movie, which she had a small role. But neither of those two things are going to be enough to put her over Leon.

Resident Evil 4 should do wonders for him in popularity. He is absolutely amazing in the game, far moreso than he ever was in RE2 or any mentions he may have had in the multiple RE games. His skill in just about everything is certainly going to be a big catch with people who have played the game. It also sold very well -- over 500,000 thus far and over 1.2 million worldwide. There's honestly not a situation where I can ever imagine Leon being beneath Jill, not anymore at least.

That picture for Master Chief is an abomination. He doesn't look like Master Chief at all. For those people who have never heard the name Master Chief but vote for him because of clearly being "that Halo guy"...well, those people will have little idea it's him.

I am really starting to think that Ceej intentionally tried to maximize CATS' performance in this match, for humor value/giving the board something to be happy about. A CATS Conspiracy of sorts >_>

I was all for Master Chief increasing a lot from Halo 2. Possibly into the 30+% strength range. But with this pic...jeez. I can't see him getting over 77% at most. Even if CATS is at only 15% with this picture, and MC is at 32%, Master Chief won't break 77%. And I think that 16%/30% are more reasonable. The math really indicates MC getting in the low 70's here. Especially since I doubt MC would fall near his max value due to this horrendous picture.

I honestly think CATS has a shot to break 30% here.

my prediction, prior to seeing the picture, was 69%, so 30% isn't shocking to me. I know it's way under the 80+% people are calling for, but I just can't see MC getting 80% on anyone.

There's nothing that outlandish about him getting close to 30% if you do the math. His spring least squares value was 16.9%; you can take that as his "face pic" value. If Master Chief is at 28% then CATS breaks 30%. I think that 16.9% is too high for CATS, but he's really not as weak as his reputation. And while I think XBox hate/Master Chief hate has died down, that picture would support an underperformance. Add in the fact that there's some people who believe that MC's position in last year's stats is misleading, and a Master Chief underperformance seems quite possible.

I really have a tough time seeing MC get into the high 70's here. This is similar to CJ/Ness; the math makes the consensus expectations somewhat tough to believe.

I keep hearing too many people say that Kefka is unrecognisable with the clown picture to those who have played the game. That's not the problem at all. No one who has played the game would have problems recognising the name Kefka.

The problem is that people who haven't played the game think he looks like a moronic.
