Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 180

Squall>Zidane>Ramza>Tidus>Cloud

That order makes me cry due to how horribly wrong it is. Now, the correct order goes like this:

Cloud > Squall > Tidus > Ramza > Zidane

For the record...

Squall > Tidus > Ramza > Cloud > Zidane

That's not a knock on Cloud or Zidane, by any means. The first three are in my top 5 favorite characters period.

I haven't played much of FFVIII (and that was a long time ago) and none of FFT so I won't comment on the other two.

Kuja > everyone else from FFIX, though.

Switch the first two, and you've got it right. Link is so much better than Cloud it's not even funny.

Ramza > Zidane > Tidus > Cloud > Squall

Taking note that I've never played FFX and thus know **** about Tidus.

It was indeed refreshing that Zidane was actually an optimist and more of a scoundral with a heart of gold than the usual angst-ridden young male thrust into the hero role by necessity than more because they want to. Hell, is Squall really that motivated to stop Ultimecia? At least Cloud has some motivation, and Zidane actually likes everyone in his party. Squall, much like how he acts in the rest of the game, is "Whatever..."

It'd be nice if Squall would actually care about something. The entire Rinoa thing was sudden and pretty unconvincing, as was the whole Ellone thing. At least Cloud showed moments of likability, and he actually cared about stuff at times (Tifa, Sephy, etc.). Squall? Whatever.

Terra, Cyan, Locke, and Celes are the only characters one could say are developed or interesting with a straight face

Sabin, Edgar, and Setzer were all given a decent amount of development, and Shadow has loads if you get all of his dreams.

I'm very fond of Gau too, actually, even though he only has two scenes with his father. His theme is my favorite song from the game, followed closely by Locke's (which is my ringtone <_<).

FFIX easily has the best character development in the entire series. Zidane, Kuja, Vivi, Garnet, Eiko, Steiner, and Beatrix are all well rounded characters with depth. Even Quina is given some kind emotional depth and charm. The only characters that were disappointments were Freya and Amarant. Freya because there was just SO much wasted potential. Amarant, because he sucked.

*SPOILERS*

Ummm no. The characters may HAVE backstories, but they defenitely weren't well done. Outside of Zidane, Kuja, and Vivi, none of the characters had well executed backstories or development. You MAY be able to add Quina to it, since there isn't much backstory to her.

Garnet and Eiko may have had their backstories revealed, but it barely went into DEPTH about it. The big revelation for them is that Garnet IS from Madain Sari. The game barely details it all besides the Wall of Summoners. The so called "love" between Steiner and Beatrix was cheesy at best. The game didn't touch on Beatrix's backstory or character at all. You just know she's a ruthless general in battle with a soft heart. The game tells very little of her past and doesn't give her enough spotlight. The only thing Steiner has for development is he turned from obnoxious to trusting. MOST RPG characters go through some kind of change throughout the game, so that is to be expected. We already know Freya and Amarant were overlooked.

FFIX's characterization was fairly good. I do agree that individually, the characters have great personalities. The quotes and script were great as well. I just think they could have done so much more with their characters.

NewLib: True, Steiner and Vivi are very well developed. False The FFVI cast is not well developed. Terra, Cyan, Locke, and Celes are the only characters one could say are developed or interesting with a straight face.

The whole World of Ruin was about character development. Almost EVERY character had a quest that delved in on their character. How could you NOT say that Shadow got development in the game? Edgar and Sabin had no development? Wasn't Gau's past thrown at you from the moment you met him? Daryl's Tomb for Setzer? Even a lesser character like Strago had his own side story going for him. That was probably the BEST FF game in terms of overall character development.

Bartz kicked ass. He's actually one of the only optimist heroes in the FF series besides Zidane. Of course, as the game continues it becomes less and less about Bartz and more about the Tycoon sisters and Galuf/You-Know-Who. Bartz's hometown was a nice touch, though.

80%+ would most definitely be above what the stats call for. Although I wouldn't say that Master Chief would ever be capable of actually winning that match against Crono. He might break 40% though.

I never stated something like being able to beat Crono. I still believe Master Chief is going to increase, but I'm hoping someone else can at least remember where I did call for Chief to be. It was Sonic at the highest and around Magus/Ganon if he stayed at his 2004 adjusted value.

In one year Mario dropped 3% on Crono, there's no reason that the opposite couldn't happen this year. Mario has still beaten Crono twice. Things change by the year.

All that means is 2k5 Chief > 2k4 Mario if it should happen. Not Master Chief > Mario.

Even though it could in theory mean 2k5 Chief > 2k5 Mario too. I'm just saying that this is the equivalent of "OMG 2k4 Kirby > 2k2 Squall!, BUT KIBRY LOST TO SQUALL!".

And you're nitpicking. It doesn't matter if Crono actually went up. There's nothing stopping Mario from going up by 3% this year in turn. Voting fluctuations > the stats.
