Wow...Rikku is impressing me.

This does not bode well for my Ryu > Bowser though....

Rikku? A board vote? Hahahaha.

Ryu is bombing, especially when you look at what he did early on in all of his other matches.

You honestly believe Rikku is getting the Board vote?

No, just that SF isn't its strongest at the beginning of the poll. It took Ryu about half an hour to overtake Sonic, and then he held the lead for a couple of hours.

I was thinking earlier today that if Chun Li was getting doubled by Bowser that Ryu had no chance. Bowser/Ryu may end up being an overhyped second round match. this isn't helping.

Ryu will gain a couple points overnight, then probably lose them again during the day.

He should finish the match in the 58%-60% range I think.

Or maybe Rikku IS stronger than Yuna. I expected it from the beginning. Rikku has a much bigger dedicated fanbase than Yuna.

Hasn't that been the case with the first 15 minutes of every match so far?

Not everyone, just Ulti.

Ryu has been perhaps THE most consistent performer in contest history. This isn't Ryu bombing, its just widespread underestimating of Rikku and severe TJF.

No, just that SF isn't its strongest at the beginning of the poll.

Not like FFX is especially strong here, either. And there is now way Rikku has the Board vote in any way. I'll just chock this up to Rikku's strength, though, not Ryu's weakness. ^_^

Yeah, 30 minutes makes such a huge difference.

Considering that has nothing to do with what I'm saying, I don't get why you posted that. Ryu didn't start taking off in either of his matches last year until a little while in, nor did Chun-Li against Bowser.

Well, if you believe that Ganondorf increased, Yuna increased by a lot from X-2 and Rikku probably got quite a bit too.

That puts her above him, actually.

And who's to say Ryu will bomb with the day vote? He won it against KOS-MOS last year. Chun-Li gained significantly after the morning vote.

You know... this is the first matches that Ryu has had against a person with a fairly large fanbase that he is expected to beat. And although he's faced popular characters in Sonic, Samus, and Snake and made the match respectable, they were never close.

One of the big reasons I have Bowser > Ryu is that I am skeptical on how well Ryu can stand up to large fanbases in a close match. He is a character that is VERY well known and is liked by practically everyone. But I don't see many people being as hardcore about him as many of the other characters around him. He may have been able to get respectable amounts of votes in matches which he was already destined to lose, but I want to see how he holds up during a close match against one of the favs (Bowser, Magus, Zero, etc...)

I think that's the same way most feel about KOS-MOS and Luigi. They're so incredibly close in the X-stats, but no one even bothers to discuss that match at all.

Well, I'd expect a Tidus/Shadow type of match if it's remotely close. Luigi will hold a significant bracket advantage, which should help him hold whatever edge he already has over KOS-MOS.

Not necessarily, it depends on where Tidus lands, and what picture CATS gets. Spring Contest CATS ranks comfortably ahead of KoaC through adjusted 2k4 Tidus - CATS would win that one 56/44. If you base KoaC on unadjusted 2k4 Tidus, Spring Contest CATS breaks 60% (but Eggplant CATS would be very close to 50/50).

Now this surprises me, I thought Ryu would be gaining right now.

I do think that Rikku is stronger than Yuna. Rikku seems to be the larger icon in the video gaming community.

However I disagree with anyone trying to use that to justify Ryu beating Bowser. Bowser's looking comfy with that at the moment.

Bowser/Snake is still real tough.

As for Luigi/KOS-MOS, I expect KOS-MOS to be weaker than she used to be, and I think others share that feeling (even if they haven't thought of it consciously). That match just doesn't seem like something to be concerned about. Unless Luigi "pulls a Luigi", of course ;)

I doubt this is TJF, outside of innate TJF, which isn't worth mentioning.

i.e., her looks help Rikku's innate character appeal; but that's really no different than their style helping Sephiroth and Cloud, or Ryu's attitude helping people like him, and so forth.

Rikku is a known name, and even without a picture would probably do well.
