Making an assumption off of this board is a very bad idea.

I lost three points(is the second round 2 points?) because of this board yesterday :P

I've said it for years: Zidane won't approach Vivi's strength. People will probably use SFF as his excuse here, but I don't think there'd be much SFF in Crono vs. Zidane.

Really, Zidane is likely going to be a weakling.

More boring than last year?

So far we have had 4 matches with less than 55% prediction percentage. And we are less than halfway done through the first round.

First 14 matches last year? Link/CATS, Dorf/Alucard, Yoshi/Ryo, Luigi/Pac-Man, Magus/Luca, Crono/Conker, Bowser/Guybrush, Mario/JC Denton, Mega Man/Earthworm Jim, Tidus/Shadow, Tommy Vercetti/Max Payne, Zero/Protoman, Frog/Liquid Snake, and Master Cheif/Crash Bandicoot.

Like this year, last year only had two truly debatable matches 14 matches in and only Frog/LS broke under 55%

Even in 2003 only Dorf/Tidus, Pikachu/Fox and Squall/Jill were all that debatable.

Also compare last year second round to this year.

Sora/Ryu and MC/Frog were the only debatable matches. Luigi/Yoshi for the gullible.

This year we have Dorf/Auron, Snake/Zelda, Sora/Alucard, Kirby/Tidus, Bowser/Ryu, Dante/Vincent, and Squall/Magus.

Board 8 hates characters like Tidus worst than Zidane and he still does well. Board 8 Opinion = Nothing.

That's exactly my point. Zidane should only do better than Board 8's opinion, and he did fairly well in a FFIX contest during the contest-season. About the top 100 characters list, it is apparent that Vivi is in the top 10, so I wouldn't say Board 8 likes Zidane, really. You also have to remember that no one can anti vote in that thing.

If it weas up to board 8, KoaC would kill Tidus, and that's mainly because he's become the new fad character after CATS and Gordon Freeman.

Akuma would most certainly be above Bison. I said it during the spring, but if Akuma were in Bison's place, the winner of that division would have never been in doubt -- Akuma would have won it without trouble.

This is the one time I agree with you HM. Akuma is basically Street Fighters version of Shadow the Hedgehog.
From: Who Cares? | Posted: 8/2/2005 5:08:43 PM | Message Detail
HM is right 'bout that, casuals play Akuma just as much as Ryu & Ken, rarely does anybody outside of hardcore/tournament players play with Bison.

Hehe, why do you see Shadow referred to as Akuma the Hedgehog sometimes, you think?

Anyway, Chun-Li looks to avoid the doubling, but it certainly won't be by much. Wonder if it can be any closer than with Sora/Aeris...

SC2K5 status - Points: 013/014 - Matches: 13/14 - Rank: 01217/33793 - Today: Bowser - Tomorrow: Ryu

You were wrong about Chun-Li, you are wrong here.

Akuma came after SF2. It is very much a stretch to think he'd be significantly stronger than Bison, and unlikely that he'd equal him either.

And "casuals" are not overly familiar with anything Street Fighter after 2 and its variations. Everything post-SF2 is more cultish, relatively speaking. And while normally that wouldn't matter so much at GameFAQs, it does matter for a fighting game, which for the population here are cultish enough here to begin with.

I think Akuma's detractors aren't stricly wrong, but I think their reasoning is. The fact is, all of the SF2 games barring the first had Akuma as a hidden character at least... and the fact of the matter is that the most popular SF game is actually (as wrong as it is) MvC2. Look at 2k2 and tell me that game wasn't a huge influence on character strength. Even Servebot was above the fodder line thanks to that game. Without it I have no doubt in my mind that old servy would barely be above Gordon (2k2).

You were wrong about Chun-Li, you are wrong here.

What?! How the hell was I wrong about Chun-Li? I called for Bowser to clear 60% with no trouble at all. If anything, I pegged Chun perfectly. Don't confuse me with someone else.

Akuma came after SF2. It is very much a stretch to think he'd be significantly stronger than Bison, and unlikely that he'd equal him either.

No, it is not. You are being very ridiculous with this idea that SF2 is the beginning and the end of Street Fighter as far as determining how popular a character is going to be. Akuma is HUGE with people, to the point of being as popular as Ryu. Of course, no one here is going to call for him to be equal to Ryu, but he would most certainly be above Bison. I know exactly what I'm talking about. If there is one fighting franchise I know like the back of my hand it's Street Fighter. There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that Akuma would be higher than Bison. Everyone should be expecting this. It would be a complete shock to see any differently.

And "casuals" are not overly familiar with anything Street Fighter after 2 and its variations.

That's hardly the truth, creative. Street Fighter did not suddenly become "hardcore" or anything after SF2. This is what I'm talking about. You seem to have the insane idea that after SF2 there was this large dropoff in the number of people that played Street Fighter. Let me tell you, you are so incredibly wrong that it isn't funny.

Chun Li's kicking it into overdrive now... if she keeps up this pace she will break 35%... heh heh. I dunno why I'm even rooting for her... don't really like her, but it seems sad for her to get blown out so badly.

I guess the better she looks the better Ryu looks, too.

I'm looking forward to Bowser/Ryu. They have huge differences in how popular they are between day and night. Expect Ryu to lead early by a significant margin, and expect Bowser to catch up and take the lead before the night starts...then we'll just have to wonder if Ryu can make a comeback with the final night vote.

I'll bring this up again: Ryu was getting 52.53% of the vote against Sonic in the last 4 hours of the Sonic/Ryu, and he gained back 348 votes. There was only about 6,000 votes involved, but hey...

Just because I wanted to say it... I always seem to agree with creative on these things. While the Street Fighters after the second one have been popular, SFII was the highest point of the series... and the only one that I, myself, have played. I don't think Akuma would be weak, but I think his late entrance into the series would prevent him from being stronger than Bison.
