Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 176

That's because Lloyd and Wesker are A) overrated, B) not bracket busters.
From: Slowflake | Posted: 7/31/2005 11:08:32 AM | Message Detail
Reminds me of the Sonic/Samus-Megaman/Sephiroth-Mario/Cloud sequence... it's not going to be quite as big, since the only really big name in the upcoming one is Snake, but five? Let's just say MC murdering DK will be a welcome change of pace.

SC2K5 status - Points: 011/012 - Matches: 11/12 - Rank: 01432/33793 - Today: Kirby - Tomorrow: Tidus
From: Lopen | Posted: 7/31/2005 11:11:26 AM | Message Detail
Tidus should be able to break 75% on KoaC. The King's probably going to be super fodder (not Tanner, but Guybrushish), and I don't think the anti-votes will help enough.

Raiden fact of the contest: Alucard is a plagiarist, this year Raiden will prove it!
From: Lopen | Posted: 7/31/2005 11:16:28 AM | Message Detail
I'm surprised that Kirby's still gaining %age so rapidly, he's sucking up the day votes in a huge way. I can't really feel good about Tidus over Kirby next round anymore. I mean... how weak can Cecil be? I can't really stomach him being beaten by Kain... or at the very least being beaten by Kain without it even being that close. Maybe this is a stronger Kirby. Stronger, faster, better.

Kirby to take his division!

No, it will not. That day will suck unless the big ape makes it unexpectedly close.

I wouldn't take too much away from this match. Can we honestly say that Kirby would not have done the same thing last year? To say he wouldn't have come close is a lie, I think. We're saying Kirby looks so strong and so impressive because we had higher expectations of Cecil. This is more of a showing of Cecil's weakness than Kirby's strength. We really can't say if Kirby's noticeably stronger until he faces Tidus.

Same thing with Sora/Alucard. To try to judge strength based on a newbie isn't going to be all that productive. Good to speculate, but I wouldn't go up to considering Kirby the favorite now just because of this performance.

Still, I can't complain. I love Kirby to death. I do feel kinda bad for Cecil though.

Heh heh... Leonhart... "it's easier to accept weakness than it is to accept strength".

I don't care how weak Cecil is, Kain being able to beat him with like 60+% of the vote? That just doesn't seem right to me.

Cecil-Shmecil, Kirby's where it's at, heh. If anything, you ought to be holding a grudge against him until Kirby gets him under 22.6% (if that happens at all); that'd mean Kuja is no longer the weakest FF character we've seen.

Heh heh... Leonhart... "it's easier to accept weakness than it is to accept strength".

Unless it's Nintendo or Square, apparently. Then it's just the opposite. Cecil's problem is more due to a lack of recognizability, I think. I wouldn't be surprised if FFIV fans thought it was a different guy named Cecil because that picture doesn't even look human.

anyone think that if we do somehow still have perfect they will be destroyed by the five streak hyped matches? and after those and the devil division's round 2 matches we may end up with a very different leaderboard. round 2 is pretty much the deciding factor for those who have a chance at making the top 50.

Doubtful he'll get him that low. Kirby's ramping up the %age, but in the last half an hour he's still only been getting 77.2% of the vote.

Unless it's Nintendo or Square, apparently

Oddly enough though, Leonhart, last time you said this about a Square character in Sora, did you not? Heh heh heh. Kirby fa life!

No, people said that about Sora because they couldn't accept Agent 47's strength. Plus, people are just grabbing for straws to justify their Alucard pick.

Yeah, I'll agree with that, even if it is Nintendo/Square today.

As a side-note about vote-totals, Kratos/Alucard got nearly 3,000 more votes than Sora/Agent 47. Take that for what it's worth, though I think some Alucard-over-Sora supporters are gonna look more into it than they should.

I agree; I just think some people will be lookin' a lil' too close at the vote-totals and think that Alucard suddenly has the edge on Sora, when in reality it's Kratos with a very hard-to-beat edge on Agent 47.

I don't know why, but since yesterday's match I've been wantin' to call Agent 47 Hitman every time I put his name down. He really coulda benefitted from having that name instead of his generic one (not to say Hitman is more original than it, of course).

Heh, imagine what he'd do to FF4 Kain now.

On a side note, do you think Auron beating Ganondorf would screw over a ton of casual brackets? There have been a good bunch of tourists who said they had Ganondorf taking the entire tournament... I honestly don't expect Samus to have a great deal of bracket support to make it out of her own division. This seriously throws into question the possibility of SFF in an eventual Samus/Ganondorf match... I mean, if so many people think Ganondorf can actually WIN...

By the way, my thoughts on Sora/Alucard look like this: well, one of them's gotta win, right? Neither impressed me at all this round.

I don't know why. Otherwise, we'd end up with a lot more irregularities than we already do if bracket voting is behind SFF. Mega Man had big bracket support against Zero last summer and did nothing with it.

There's just nothing going Ganondorf's way, EVEN if you're gullible enough to consider the villain contest accurate.
