Analysis

Well this is the match the board has been hyping for since the brackets were released and many people are hoping this is going to be a very close match. Here we have two characters that have been in only one contest before. Sadly they weren’t in the same contest, which could be why people are hyping about it since we don’t know how these characters will act. When combining all of the contests, Zelda is the slight favorite to win this match, but it isn’t set in stone.

This is the second Nintendo vs. Square poll this year and we all know what that means, higher vote totals! Now could this match break Ganondorf/Yuna’s match record? Probably since both are fairly strong and this match will most likely be much closer then that match as well. We could break 110k tomorrow.

First off we have the most hyped game since Halo 2; the new Zelda game is coming out in a few months. Just like Link and maybe Ganondorf Zelda could benefit from the hype for this game, especially that her name is on the cover. Then again I don’t think she’ll benefit half as much as Link did.

When Vivi had his match against Sephiroth there could’ve been SFF. Even if we do adjust him by Donkey Kong’s strength he’s still below Zelda. The only problem now is that Donkey Kong could’ve gain over the year and push could push Vivi over Zelda. With the new Donkey Konga games that seems likely. There are also some people that will argue with that and say Donkey Kong was weaker that year, but if anything he’ll probably be stable.

We all remembered in 2k4 where Link overperformed against Mega Man. Well that could’ve happened with Zelda in 2k3. I personally don’t think it’s true because what ever happened in Link/Mega Man was a one time deal and if they were to have another match Mega Man would do much better, but it would explain why Lara was constant for two years then dropped like a rock in the next. But if Zelda was weaker in 2k3 the new Zelda game hype will probably cancel it out.

I hope we have a good match here, but with not enough information on the two characters either character could easily break 55% on each other. The board may heavily favor Zelda going into this match, but Vivi does have a good enough chance to win this match, but like most users we took the safe bet of going with Zelda. Two strong characters, both deserving to win at least one match are sadly going to battle it out tomorrow. Best of luck to both of you and may the best character win.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Zelda over Vivi Ornitier

charmander6000’s Prediction: Zelda wins, 52.68% - 47.32%

Ya know, with all of the board's massive support for Manny out of the way for the most part and now that Solid has moved .05% in the past few hours, is it possible that Solid could expand this out even more by the end of the match?

85% is obviously out of the question now (I'm still eating crow for guessing 87% last night), but maybe 15.75% is possible for Snake to push Manny down?

Nobody would have been calling for 90% or more for Solid Snake against Manny if he wasn't the one that faced Tanner...

As he walks the path of life...his name is called for..chanted by those, his fellow Elites, his equals, who know the power of his prose...as the noobs, fanbabies, and nerdboys cower in the darkness...afraid the truth of their blind loyalty will be brought forth before their judgment clouded eyes...

He answers the call with a tip of his BoSox cap...draws forth his pen to compose the very column that has increased Stats thread readership by 23.39%... He is...

The Sage of Board 8, Steve Illumina

Hahahaha, greetings gamers the world over...the time has come to write once more...be afraid kiddies, be very afraid indeed...

And so for 2005 it continues, in the 'Landing' Gear Division..

(4) Vivi vs (5) Zelda

Steve's Pick: Vivi! GO BLACK MAGE!
Fanboy-O-Meter: A toss up!
Upset Odds: It could really happen..but is it an upset?
Match Fun Factor: 10/10: This, my friends, is what its all about...this seperates the Elite bracketeers from the Dumb...

Comments: Yes yes yes...this match is one I have waited for. I am counting on the hallowed Black Mage to get it done...breaking Nintendite's perfect brackets, sending other 1 point losses to 2 point losses...yes yes yes!

It still boggles me how Zelda makes it here...she is a storyline character...on the whole. I mean..yah she is in SSBM...but...geesh. A 6 or 7 seed is more appropriate!

I refuse to fall for the Zelda hype. Vivi is too cool, too loved, and whether he wins by 1 vote or 1000, a win is a win. Some peeps refuse to admit that fact...

Also I am on a roll in terms of my last minute bracket changes and such. Yah I blew it with Carl, but I originally had Wesker and Big Boss! LOL Yah u can all laugh...but thankfully my Sage Staff enlightened me otherwise! They would have been nice upsets...

*laughs at myself*

The screams of the Nintendites...the painful wails of broken brackets...it will be joy...my leaderboard glory i dream for...strive for.....for the entire site to know my name...and bow in homage!

*laughs madly...like a crazed fanboy*

In all seriousness...i love the good matches...and this one will be memorable! Go Vivi!!!!!!!!!

Prediction: 2nd best match of Round 1...and Vivi gets it done thanks to the FF fans, RPG fans, and his higher seed and kickass pics! He is prolly my 2nd fav character who in this tourney bracket, Froggy being the 1st...

Quote of the Day: "I have a soul...you have what...looks?" -Vivi when asked about Zelda

Honestly, I think the only other character that would get as big a blowout on Tanner would be Mega Man. I do think anti-votes are significant enough to deter most blowouts.

Of course, it was weaker 2k4 who owned Tanner to boot. I'm honestly finding it hard to believe Tanner would suck more than every other crap character we've had. Hell, I'd put someone from an unknown Japanese RPG over Tanner.

Random Contest factoid.

The only contest characters that are entirely unplayable that has ranked anywhere near respectable in a Character Battle has been Liquid Snake followed by Kefka.

However, this summer with the push of the Spring Contest we're likely to see Ocelot and Diablo add to that list and possibly Wesker depending on the Lloyd/Zero/Mario chain.

So Sephiroth does well because you can control him for all of ten minutes?

Still, interesting.

Ah, I see.

Of course, I think Sephy's ten minutes of being playable in FF7 would help him more than being in Ehrgeiz.

And honestly, how many characters aren't playable in the regular contest to begin with? Besides Liquid and Kefka, I can think of Nook and Resetti off the top of my head. There's probably some others. I'll assume TV's Kane wasn't playable, since he was in a ****ing TV and all.
