Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 164

Good to see I'm not the only one getting "It's going to be closer than we think vibes". I predicted 60% to be safe with Frog, but I have a feeling that Riku will do better than we expect.

As for Snake, he should get 90%. Manny is probably less known than Yuri, and while Snake is weaker than Samus, Manny is just....out there.

We'll know Crono's strength when he faces Tommy Vercetti in Round 2.

Manny has a cult following. That alone should keep him above 10%.

I'm thinking Snake gets around 86%.

WE know that, but how many casuals out there do you think have played Grim Fandango and know who Manny is? All their going to see is a bone guy.

Hell, Tanner was from Driv-three-r, and that's much more mainstream than GF. His generic picture and name hurt him bad.

I don't know why people are saying that Agent 47 is going to be the next Tanner. Tanner probably is THE most generic looking character we have seen in the contest. A guy in a suit...

Hell, Agent 47's GUNS would double up Tanner. <_<

Generic name indeed. When I first saw that bracket, I thought Pokemon.

And to celebrate today's match, I had another view of the Metroid DVD I got off the internet. SM should not be completely beaten in under an hour, it's jsut wrong :-)

The ungodly amount of ass that Kratos both owns and kicks is completely staggering.

Yeah...and from the latest evidence, there was something to that.

Anyway, Grim Reaper goes well beyond video games. The innate appeal of the Manny character should certainly be greater than the innate appeal of the Guybrush character, because of his character model.

I've never heard of either of these two before these contests, but that seems extremely likely to me.

Samus had a very nice day vote gain while I was gone it seems. However, that's about the only thing that was impressive about this match. The reason I say that is that the vote totals are so very low right now and Yuri is pretty much a very low fodder. But yeah, nice day vote gain for Samus. <3

Analysis:

Here we have the best new comer of last year against a guy from Kingdom Hearts, which rocked 2k3’s Final Fantasy characters. Frog has won two close matches, which when you add them up it’ll equal 100 votes and he did very well against Solid Snake. Frog should be able to win this match because he’s ahead of the main character of Kingdom Hearts in the adjusted x-st and goes 50/50 with him in the unadjusted x-st.

I may be underestimating Riku here, but I don’t really expect him to be all that strong. I would probably rank him on the top of the second half of the x-st. Sora may be a very strong character, but even with that I don’t think Riku is up to the ranks of Yoshi and Dante. Also if you ask me I bet he got some of his nominations from people who spelt Rikku wrong. The game Kingdom Hearts has now become a series this year, with CoM out and KH2 not so far away, but it’s probably not going to help Riku much or hurt him in that case.

In 2k3 Sora was SFF a lot by Aeris. Sure Aeris was in the same game as Sora was, but Frog is also made from Square. If Frog does SFF Riku this will be the first time anything Chrono Trigger SFF other then themselves. I don’t expect to be as much SFF as there was on Aeris vs. Sora, but there will be some kind of SFF in that match. Also if (when) Frog does SFF Riku I can expect there will be a few people expecting Frog to break 45% on Samus or something.

Now if you’ve seen Zero’s performance against Hayabusa a few days ago you would’ve noticed that if you didn’t adjust division 20XX Zero would’ve got about what he did on that day. If that was true then Mega Man performed just fine against Link and we shouldn’t have done that despite almost everyone took a drop. Sure it was only one match and if Frog doesn’t live up to my expectations I couldn’t say it was because of that since Riku is a new character and sadly we won’t have a second look until Magus vs. Knuckles.

There is also a possibility that Frog overperformed on Solid Snake because of the picture, but like I’ve said, the picture vote doesn’t make up much percent. If something weird did happen on that match, it wasn’t because of the picture, but like most people on the board, they must explain something no matter how farfetched it is.

With all of that said, if this is adjusted Frog I’m expecting a doubling here and if it isn’t adjusted I’m still going to expect Frog to break 60%. This may be higher then what most people expect, but that’s probably because I’m expecting SFF to happen on this match.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Frog over Riku

charmander6000’s Prediction: Frog wins, 68.19% - 31.81%
