Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 161

0_o. Being number two means nothing right now. He has the exact same score as thousands of other people. He just submitted his bracket earlier.

Aside from that his argument isn't very good considering sales don't equate to votes in this contest. Not even close. Let's not even mention wekser's piss poor performance in the spring. He isn't even capable of doubling Luca blight.

I remember fedor creating some kind of political topic either during or after the contest (it was after Bison lost, anyway). Of course, I had to be an ass and rub my leaderboard standing in his face. Looking back, it was very unprofessional of me. =(

Spring 2005
Beat Luca Blight, 59.74% - 40.26%
Lost to Kefka Palazzo, 29.63% - 70.37%
Ranked: 25th

Analysis:

If it wasn’t for the villains contest we could’ve had our first two new character match. Lloyd is being praised to no end for being in the contest and I’m seeing predictions as high as 70% here. Lloyd is from the RPG Tale of Symphonia, probably one of the most popular RPG games for the Gamecube (but to be honest there really aren’t that many good ones). I feel that Lloyd is very overrated and unlike what people think he’s going to be fodder. If it wasn’t for the villains contest I would probably have put Wesker over Lloyd.

Yes, I’m probably going against many people on saying that Lloyd will have a tough time against Vyse. We’ve overestimated characters in the past and we’ll overestimate them in the future. There will always be board favorites. Lloyd will not double Wesker.

Now the best way to show you that Lloyd is the huge favorite is that Mithos, the villain from Tales of Symphonia got 36% on Kefka while Wesker got under 30%. Using those stats Wesker is predicted to get 40% on Mithos and like many people say, it’s very hard to picture Lloyd to be below Mithos. Personally I don’t think Lloyd is any higher than Mithos and the most I’ll give him is maybe 2% higher and after giving him that 2% we still only have a 65/35 match.

Another possibility could be that Wesker could’ve underperformed in his match since Luca would’ve gotten 30% on Kefka, yet Wesker beat Luca 60/40. After bumping that up Wesker is now 50/50 with Mithos, but as you know using fodder characters to determine a character’s strength is very risky so for all we know Wesker can be anywhere from his original spot to 50/50 with Mithos. So in reality Wesker has a small chance again Lloyd.

Like I’ve said before, I may be in the minority, but to people that can see Lloyd break 70%, well I can’t even see him doubling Wesker. I would love to see the board explode to find Wesker going 50/50 on Lloyd, but then again everything will have to be on Wesker’s side and I too don’t see that happening.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Lloyd Irving over Albert Wesker

charmander6000’s Prediction: Lloyd wins, 59.23% - 40.77%

Of course, Kefka will likely have the lead for most of the night, and everyone will go crazy about "Man, I shouldn't have listened to board 8! I knew Kefka was gonna win!"

Then Vercetti's gonna pull away, and then everyone will go crazy about "How can some lame guy from GTA beat the greatest villain EVER?!"

I'm looking forward to it.

Jesus. People say it helps Square characters in general when a new Square/FF/KH game is released...yet people say it hurts Vercetti when GTA:SA is released.

The only thing that will keep Kefka/Vercetti from becoming a day for the ages on board 8 is that Vercetti is expected to win.

If it was something completely unexpected like Squall/Luigi, I would laugh all day while the board went up in flames.

But Kefka is dead in the water if the 20XX Factor doesnt exist.

For the last time, 20XXDF really wasn't a big deal. Kefka falls from 22.75% to 21.20%, and Vercetti falls with him. Plus, I think that Kefka proved himself in the Spring contest; despite the fact that Diablo didn't get a link from diabloii.net for Ganondorf/Diablo, Kefka still seemed to be about where the 20XXDF put him. If anything, I'd be happier without a 20XXDF: it means that old Square as a whole might be increasing (all two of them, Crono and Kefka), and it makes Vercetti slightly weaker.

Old Square increasing makes sense if Nintendo increases, actually. You figure that a bunch of Nintendo fans are also fans of the SNES and it's broad library of Square RPGs. That might prove problematic in my bracket for Mario/Crono IV, though.

Oh, yeah, forgot about Magus and Frog. They count as old Square, too. Terra, Cecil, and maybe Geno don't count because we haven't seen them yet. I'm tempted to throw Vivi in that group, but then I have to include Kuja, too, and that doesn't really help my theory.
