Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 161

KOS-MOS would be expected to get 72% on Wesker. Why can't Lloyd do that and then some?

Statistically? We don't have any stats on Lloyd...

I meant statistically as in Mithos is projected to get almost 59% on Wesker, and Lloyd (logically) is supposed to be much stronger than Mithos.

The two kind of tie in with each other.

1. Jill is also under-rated in the 2004 stats, which is good news to the people who believe she couldn't have fallen so far.

Didn't Ryu get his DOA pic against Jill as well?

Well I tend to adjust Wesker through Luca Blight to avoid Kefka's unusual picture advantage that will never reflect his contest strength again. Meaning KOS-MOS would only be projected to come short of a doubling.

My biggest predictions: Mario over Samus, Alucard over Sora, Magus over Dante.

KOS-MOS is from Xenosaga. Same timeline, different company (Namco, not Square).

Xenosaga

It's not a Square game, but it spawned from Square. Which definitely has a hand in KOS-MOS's performance.

I just hope Ceej doesn't use Xenosaga 2 KOSMOS for the pic. Her chances of beating Luigi are already small as it is. That pic would ensure one of the worsts beatings she'd ever take....

At the 12:30 mark, this match has 53,714 votes.

Mario/Joanna Dark: 58,837
Ness/CJ: 58,976

Way behind now. Matter of fact, Ness is only 2000 votes behind what Zero has right now despite the disparity in the closeness of their matches.

Eh, I was joking, Earthbound would put Ness over Marth. I'm just saying that if it were only Super Smash Bros fans voting, Marth could quite probably pull out a victory. A slim one (because Ness is also pretty popular in that game... mainly the first), but a victory nonetheless.

I'm thinking the Melee fanbase would easily favor Marth or Roy over Ness. Whereas Ness is a goofy kid with a cap and yo-yo, Marth and Roy are actually damn cool and pretty good in play (especially Marth, of course). The Earthbound fanbase coupled with his status in the original Smash would give Ness the victory, but it would be pretty close.

Personally, I'd like to see Captain Falcon make the contest. I doubt he'd be as strong as Ness because Earthbound > F-Zero, but he's a solid SSB character...so you never know.

Exactly, if Ness wasn't in the original Smash Bros I would've given the thumbs up to Marth in that one, just because he'd probably "SFF" his Melee support away.

Roy is a waste of space because he's the same as marth.. but worse.

Roy is a waste of space in that game, and don't even try arguing otherwise.

He's at least useful on single player. You can easily abuse the AI in the game with him... even at level 9. It's pathetic actually. But he is the person I used to get the Master Hand and Crazy Hand trophies, if nothing more than easy KOs during the Kirby and Pokemon stages.

Not saying you can't do it with anyone else... just mentioning the ease that you can do it with Roy.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's match. you can say that TOS is the wildcard in this year's contest, and after this match we'll have a better read on Kratos/Diablo. if Lloyd doesn't win with 70% or more, my pick of Kratos over Diablo is pretty much shot.

How does that help you to become a better player? Charging a smash or the Flare Blade against the AI teaches you some very bad habits.

KOS-MOS is projected to get 72% on Wesker. Being mainstream isn't a requirement to break 70% on Wesker.

It's very hard to make a fair comparison of KOS-MOS to Wesker, because he got MATCH PIC'D by Kefka, and Luca's 2k4 figure is anyone's guess. But even if KOS-MOS could hit 70% on Wesker (which I doubt would happen), I can't imagine Lloyd doing the same. At least KOS-MOS is cute; Lloyd looks like a generic male lead. It's not the most inspiring thing I've ever seen. Besides, if the vote totals land in the 90,000 range tomorrow, then Lloyd needs to bring in 63,000+ of them to make the 70% mark...I don't know, I just can't picture that happening.

you know, I don't get the argument that TOS isn't "mainstream". it's #13 in the faqs and came out like 2 years ago; in comparison, FF10 is #7 and FFX-2 is #25. it's the second most popular RPG of this generation. not being made by Square is the only argument I've seen that even remotely makes sense and I don't think your average fan is that blindly loyal to one company.

Wait, you're putting the Count that low? You suck.

Well, Grover is my personal favorite, and I had him at the bottom.

No real need to analyze Zero underperformance, when it was expected by so many after the match pic was seen.

I think that Marth and Roy would do pretty decent here. I could see them challenging Jak/CJ, for instance. I'd guess 16%-21% on Link for them.

1) This month marks the one year anniversary of T.O.S. in the U.S.
2) While sales figures will obviously go up over time, Tales still significantly trails FFX, FFX-2, Kingdom Hearts, Fable, Animal Crossing, and Dark Cloud in this generation. I don't think it's even matched Shenmue or Xenosage Episode I yet, so...it's not exactly a superstar title.

ToS has sold around 300k in North America so far. That's not a superstar performance, but it's good enough to do well. Being as strong as KOS-MOS isn't exactly a spectacularly high goal either.

Grover is my favourite, too. screw Snuffalupagus.

I'd say that the "TOS population" resides at GameFAQs and thus would overperform compared to its sales figure. a lot of the people who bought Xenosaga didn't like it, and that's evidenced by the second episode selling half as well. I'd take Lloyd over KOS-MOS, though KOS-MOS does have the whole Chick Android With a Big Gun thing.
