How many of the brackets do you think Zero will have behind him? I say 77.71%.

Who would take Alu over Zero?

I'm tempted to throw Vivi in that group, but then I have to include Kuja, too, and that doesn't really help my theory.

I don't buy into this "old school's revenge!" stuff, but Vivi getting old-school support does make sense on some level, because a large part of his appeal is his Black Mageyness. Which is and old school thing. This wouldn't help Kuja or other FF9 characters.

On a tangent about BMF: While we have no solid data, it just seems eminently obvious to me that Vivi gets a very substantial portion of his fanbase from outside Final Fantasy IX. Kuja's weakness seemed to confirm this. And yet everybody rationalized that by saying he was a weak villain, or that he showed up too late in the game. When the easier explanation is that Vivi is just a lot stronger than he would be if his strength was only Final Fantasy IX derived. I'll say again: one of the most annoying things about this bracket is that Zidane will now have an excuse for flopping.

I'm not exactly sure how much SFF will be in Crono/Zidane. We've never actually seen old school Square vs. new school Square except for FFVII/CT, and we don't believe there was any worthwhile SFF in that one.

Well, Sin and Lavos were also very weak. We're not gonna start saying their heroes get outside exposure to help them, too, are we?

Summer 2005 Contest - 2/3 points
Current Match Prediction: Lloyd Irving vs. Albert Wesker
From: steve illumina | Posted: 7/21/2005 10:08:48 PM | Message Detail
As he walks the path of life...his name is called for..chanted by those, his fellow Elites, his equals, who know the power of his prose...as the noobs, fanbabies, and nerdboys cower in the darkness...afraid the truth of their blind loyalty will be brought forth before their judgment clouded eyes...

He answers the call with a tip of his BoSox cap...draws forth his pen to compose the very column that has increased Stats thread readership by 23.39%... He is...

The Sage of Board 8, Steve Illumina

Hahahaha, greetings gamers the world over...the time has come to write once more...be afraid kiddies, be very afraid indeed...

And so for 2005 it begins, in the 'Shiitake' Mushroom Division..

(2) Lloyd Irving vs (7) Albert Wesker

Steve's Pick: Lloyd
Fanboy-O-Meter: Favors Lloyd mindblowingly highly!
Upset Odds: Remote...
Match Fun Factor: 2/10: A boring snoozefest...really..would I lie about it???

Comments: If there is one thing I detest...other than fanbabies and stupid characters taking roster spots that dont belong...its stupid fanbaby backed characters who take a spot where they dont belong and are overseeded! Yah..this means you Lloyd...so come out from behind the curtain of obscurity...

I will admit, my loyal fans, that I originally took Wesker here. Why? Well cause Lloyd is an unknown...a newbie...a mere animator's thought a year ago. Now he is reality...and a #2 seed...stealing it from a rightful #2 like Magus... (Yah a little Scythe Love goin on!)

But after seeing that ding a ling Ness win...I am convinced I made the right move by switchin. Wesker really is a bum of the Gordy Freeman sort..and I think he is here cause a few thousand Jill fans, thinking she belongs here every year, decided to nominate Wesker instead, thinking his surprising 1 win in the Spring Fling would help him, and give their series some website love...

I swear, these fanbabies come up with some great ideas dont they...and so we get a snoozefest

Attention Kmart Shoppers: If you see Isaac or Felix...send them to the front of the store, their mommy is waiting for them!

I fully see in my crystal ball that Lloyd will join them next year...1 year 1 hit contest wonder...

In other news, GTA San Andreas on PC got the Adults Only rating. So should Zero Wing...playin it will dull the vocab skills of a growing child.

Prediction: Lloyd wins 55-45 in a low vote matchup, maybe the lowest in the round. Bring on the next pairing!

Quote of the Day: "I am not a jobber! I belong! Look what the fat kid did...now I will do the same!" -Lloyd

I cant see how anyone in their right mind would vote Lloyd over Wesker. If you just played TOS, you should hate Lloyd and anti-vote him. Just played RE, Wesker's great. Played them both, Wesker's great. There is no room for disagreement here.

Even playing RE4 you should appreciate him. He is playing everyone like a fiddle. A FIDDLE.

-- Spoilers --

He keeps letting other companies/organizations take the fall for his research. He keeps getting research and outsmarts everyone so he reeps none of the negative aspects of playing his little game. Plus he is Super Human and badass at that.

Oh come one, those are bad comparisons and you know it :) First off, Ganondorf is human. And Bowser has one of the most remarkable/memorable personalities in all video games. That's what he's known for.

I don't expect Zidane to be some powerhouse, but fodder? No.

I expect him to be around 17%-23% on Base Link, which is well under what any hype would have him at.

Assuming Lloyd doesn't go ape**** on Wesker tomorrow, Zero possibly being weaker this year shouldn't cost us any points. I credit most of this "under-performing" on Ryu's more recognizable pic, myself; I don't think Zero will have changed much, though it's still kind of iffy about where he should be standing to begin with.

That's what we were talking about. That Sin and Lavos aren't ideal comparisons for Kuja, what with them being "things" and all. They're better comparisons than Robotnik, but still not that great.

I still don't buy the idea of saying Vivi has to get outside support because Kuja's that weak. It's almost like saying that almost all of his strength comes from outside support and not the game itself.

Ya know, an arguement I've heard for Vivi is that he's THE character in the game you like, whether you like the game or not. While I do think he has a BMF goin' for him, perhaps this is more true than we give credit for.

If so, I wanna see Laguna in a contest; I hear he's the Vivi of FF8, minus any possible BMF, heh.

The first Wesker report is crap. A hodge-podge of random events & plotholes thrown together to "fix" the story so that everything's Wesker's plan. Because Capcom's plot virus & them deciding he had Tyrant shewer him ON PURPOSE demanded it.

The second file is considerably better.

I think Manny will be about the same strength as Guybrush.

Hm...I figured Manny would be more popular than Guybrush by a decent amount as I knew his picture was on the front cover...but now I see that Guybrush appears on his cover, too. Hm, but Guybrush is merely part of the cover for his game, while Manny IS the front cover. :P

For amusement...

Don't know if it means anything HERE, or even if Grim Fandango is more popular than Monkey Island. I honestly thought Grim was much more popular prior to this contest...
