Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 158
From: cyko | Posted: 7/19/2005 3:38:15 PM | Message Detail

I agree... people are already calling Mario the 2k5 champ after one match against someone who hasn't even been IN the contest yet.

what? who was ******* stupid enough to claim that already? i need some names so i can hand out some floggings....

At the 15:30 mark, this match has 73,567 votes. At this same time, Cloud/Samus had 74,910 votes.

nice. it looks like we might have some 120,000+ vote matches again. ^_^

and if you ask me, these higher vote totals mean that we can probably breathe a little easier about CJ and Vercetti. Kefka and Ness don't really strike me as being very popular with the casual gamer crowd. especially poor Kefka. however, with an extra 20,000 voters, ya gotta admit that close to call matches like Ryu vs. Bowser, Sora vs. Alucard, Ganondorf vs. Auron, and Vivi vs. Zelda are totally up in the air.

To add on to that, you can look at the Vercetti pics and go hey, it's the GTA:Vice City guy without even playing the game. When you look at CJ's pic without playing the game, the first thing that comes to mind is "oh, a guy with a cap, shades, and a big gold chain.... wait, that's the guy from GTA:San Andreas?"

The only saving grace for CJ's pic is that you see it in the loading times in the game. But I swear it still looks more like Ryder.

That's my whole point....

The only saving grace for CJ's pic is that you see it in the loading times in the game. But I swear it still looks more like Ryder.

Another point... In that pic, it's debatable whether the average person would even KNOW it's the main character of GTA:SA. There were plenty of people in 2k3 that didn't know the name Tommy Vercetti, but recognized his pic (and Hawaiian shirt) as the GTA:VC guy.

Please. We all know that Chun-Li will be beating Ryu, Alucard beating Sora, Ganondorf beating Auron, and Vivi beating Zelda.

I'd start getting worried about Samus/Frog. Now there's a match that could go either way. I mean, look at Lavos vs Mother Brain. Mother Brain kept it close. However, Samus clearly is farther from Mother Brain than Frog is from Lavos. So I'd be careful if I were you.

For the pic of Ness vs. CJ...I feel a bit better about picking Ness than earlier, but there's still the fact Gamespot is involved. >.< Of course, I think it's more likely Ryu Hayabusa may be helped by his pic than CJ will be hurt by his...I think Hayabusa should break 35%. =p

However...the better Zero does, the better it looks for my Alucard-over-Sora prediction.

What the hell.. GAMESPOT IS BARELY INVOLVED! Jesus... A link to the rules won't help anymore than the link from the little gray ****ing bar at the top of the god damn screen. If anything, the BAR is more helpful since you can't help but see it (unless you block like anyone who can, should do).

You know, I was panicking when I realized I set my tiebreaker to 62,000. Ironically, I am also one of the few that made note of the 25% vote total decrease last year. I thought we would only see a 100,000+ vote total match in the finals. Now that we are seeing 2003-level vote totals. I can honestly see a 120,000 vote total final which will make my tiebreaker competitive.

2k3 lead off with a 101,800 vote match. If this matches that match then we're in for a good contest. Considering that it's nearly keeping pace with Samus/Cloud, another ~101k match, we're in good shape. Wonderful!

Heh. Why is everyone forgetting about Magus? His numbers were all derived off his match against Link in 2003...

And this is why the board will live or die by Magus. My numbers, believe it or not, indicate an overperformance by Magus in this match, which will give Squall the win. Of course, if that's not what happened, then Magus will win, which is exactly why everyone will live or die by this proposition.
