I'd like to believe majority of the voters saw Mega Man lying in fear from Link.

That's actually something I don't think people bring up enough.

As I think I said the day of the match, it could be that the impact of the "biased" pics was asymetric: the "cowardly Mega Man" pic might have hurt Mega worse than the "shocked Link" pic hurt Link.

OR, it could be what you suggest: the randomness was not truly random. Perhaps, for some reason—such as Ceej not really doing it randomly, or the PHP random function being seeded wrong—the pro-Link pic was shown significantly more times than the pro-Mega Man picture.

Perhaps pic factors aren't normally a big deal; but in cases with such extreme pictures as these, it should be more likely to matter than usual. We can't know anything for sure, but I for one was highly suspicious of the influence of the match pictures in that match.

Just a couple things of note. First, someone mentioned that they thought this match would be high because it's the opener. Fact of the matter is, though, that the opener tends to actually do badly comparitively. The only reason they are decent is because they always have a top-ranked character in them. Secondly, the poll brackets made ended with 35% saying they didn't know the contest, didn't it? And doesn't it usually end up with 50% not knowing? I'm thinking there's far more awareness of this contest, and that it will be the second highest voted contest on average.

Ceej never had a giant banner advertising the contest right there when you enter the site before, either. He had to do some advertising, because, as you said, 50% of people didn't know what the contest was. After that poll, and after the banner went up, that lessened significantly.

I love how everyone just slaps the SFF tag onto any match that they can't explain very well. Joanna is getting killed! Obvious SFF because they were both on the N64!

Just like Link/Mega Man or Sephiroth/Liquid! Obvious SFF due to being on the same console even though we have no idea what actually happened!

Give me a break. Joanna is just one of the "happy to be here" characters whose match picture doesn't make her look anything like the N64 version. Well that, plus the fact that Nintendo in Summer 2005 could very well be stronger across the board. Don't underestimate how thoroughly they dominated E3 over the past two years.

I'm gonna completely blame her not doin' respectable on her Avril-look; had she looked like, oh, I dunno, HERSELF, she'd make this a 60-40 affair...in her favor, heh.

About the SFF thing though, I'm finding it unreasonable how some of the same people who expect Mario to rSFF Samus to a larger degree than ever before seen will not give even the slightest bit of credit to Mario minorly SFF'ing Joanna, a character who only has one game...on the N64, no less, a system with a very close ratio of bought-N64s-to-bought-SM64s. There's no question she's weak, but I still think a lil' more credit should be given to her than what she's showing here, no matter what final percentage she gets.
