In all seriousness, I think Joanna will rank at about Crash's level.

so at the current pace how many votes will we have at the end of the day?

Since the matches started and with a huge flood of votes, if this keeps up we'll get 165,312 votes by the end of the match, but personally I'm expecting around 85k-90k

from Mario's 2k4 match, 15 minutes in:

Mario 1141
JC 235

Total 1376

15 minutes in this year:

Mario 1375
Joanna 327

Total 1702

however, it's also the first match, which I would assume would get more votes.

I still don't get where people are getting this idea of SFF from. Games are different from characters. Just because they shared a console doesn't mean they have a larger than normal fanbase overlap.

Quite simply, it means he makes Crono his *****.

And when I said Joanna is about equal to Crash, I meant between Conker and Sam Fisher.

She's definitely weak. But I think she has to be stronger than someone as obscure as JC Denton. Now she isn't going to be that much higher than Denton, but being equal with him is just something I couldn't imagine happening.

I think it's likely he at least regained what he had lost last year -- I, obviously, think more than that though.

I'll agree with this. I do think she'll keep above 16.46% and that Mario gained a small bit, so she should be stronger than JC...at the end of the day though, she's still probably gonna be pretty comparable to him.

It's not even the N64 Joanna, for crying out loud.

This would really only count for something if PDZ was actually out yet. I would imagine practically everyone voting for her has played perfect dark on the n64. I wouldn't factor out the possibility of SFF. Then again Joanna is also really weak I'm sure. FPS characters don't exactly have steller performances in these contests.

Could Mario get near 83% with the day vote? I do believe so! And I think Joanna is indeed stronger than Mr. Denton. God, Mario is doing great.

Mario 80.3% 803
Joanna Dark 19.7% 197
TOTAL VOTES 1000

As impressive as Mario is with the day vote, he is far more impressive with the board vote. His position week-in and week-out with the NCAA poll, your cunning plan, and etc. testify to that. He'll get weaker as the day goes on.

Well if you ask me SFF here would make a decent amount of sense. Well that and Joanna being incredibly weak. I don't think we should be speculating a mario increase until he faces an opponent who we can actually have some idea of strength on. At least when he faces CJ we can compare it to vercetti, or figure out CJ's strength through ness.

I think we all need to stop tossing the term "SFF" around when it is not needed, personally.

It's not needed in the sense that it'd sway the outcome of the match...but if Joanna were to face somebody next year who was close to her but noticably outranked her (for my example to stand, let's assume PDZ isn't released by then), then I wouldn't count Joanna out just yet.

In that sense, to me, there's minor SFF goin' on.

Considering just about everyone seems to be in agreement that Square in general was weaker in 2004, I don't see why higher vote totals don't favor them moreso than anybody else.

Well if you ask me SFF here would make a decent amount of sense.

No matter how you slice it, there is "SFF" in every single match. But the only time you need to say something is SFF is when it's actually worth nothing -- today's match is not worth nothing. Link/Ganon, Crono/Magus, Mario/Bowser; those are all matches where it would make sense to say SFF. The other matches just don't make sense to throw it around. I don't even like when people blame Mega Man/Link for SFF. I'm sure something happened, Mega MAn could have got that much weaker but no one considers that.

Today's match has no SFF that is worth noting. That's really what I mean. Mario is looking to be stronger than his performance in 2004 if only because Joanna being equal to JC Denton would make little sense given how popular one is and how obscure the other is. But that isn't to say she'll be anything to talk about, because she's still big fodder.
