To Mario over Samus supports:
Anyone having a feeling that Mario may be more riskier than we thought?
It is a bit of risky pick, and it's definitely my biggest 'FU' to the stats, but I'm not about to change it. I'm concentrating much more on matches like Bowser vs. Snake, Auron vs. Dorf, etc. because they're all tougher for me than Mario/Samus.

Mario Vs Samus seems the be the only match I re-check and re-think over
and over. The rest are more likely to be my actual bracket than Mario
Vs Samus.

100k averages would be nice, but I don't see it happening unless the
poll gets moved up. I expect a small increase from last year - if
Sephiroth vs Ganon can get 103k, it's hard to imagine Crono vs Samus
doing worse.

You know, I can't help but think that TJF might be a bigger factor than given credit for...
First off, Morrigan...she takes off 1/3 of Mario's vote, and more than doubles Spyro. She's from a series hardly anyone has played, and thus gets most of her fame from the Capcom VS series...
Gordon vs. Tina...Tina probably got a boost against Gordon with her lovely leg pic. Many people agree on this already.
Jill vs. Kirby...okay, so Kirby happens to be at his "weakest" in this contest. I hear Jill had more cleavage in her picture against Kirby than other pics...
KOS-MOS...she's far and away the most popular non-Squaresoft RPG character we've witnessed, while Albedo utterly bombed...Kratos and Lloyd could be close to her, though.
It'll be interesting to see how Tifa compares to Aeris.

I would think Yoshimitsu or Heihachi would be the strongest
representatives. That's partially because they're from Soul Calibur as
well, though. Jin will do better than Terry, though. Sadly. I'm betting he'll just avoid the quadrupling.

I'd have taken Zidane over Lloyd without hesitation. If it weren't for
the fact that Wesker is his rd 1 opponent I don't know that I'd have
taken him to win a match at all.
And as far as vote increases, well... if site traffic has increased I expect higher vote totals. This last spring's contest is a bad judge of that since there was such a high level of fodder that interest couldn't have been high.

I would think Yoshimitsu or Heihachi would be the strongest representatives.
I'd say Yoshimitsu without thinkin' twice. Tekken and Soul Calibur both; that's gotta mean something. Plus, as a casual fighter, I like the pogo-swording son-of-a-gun. I said it in one of Leonhart's NCAA topics before; if he happened to face CJ, I would take that sexy upset.
too bad Zidane and Wesker weren't switched. Lloyd/Zidane would be much more interesting.
That WOULD be great...then switch Zero and Kerrigan too like I've said, and there's suddenly several more interesting matches/divisions.

I fail to see why we'd have significantly higher vote totals. We have
an interesting bracket, but even 92K is pushing it without Link, Cloud,
or Sephiroth.

If nothing else, Link/Cloud very well could be having a higher
vote-total this year than last year...and it didn't do too bad for
itself then, heh. I maintain that we could be seein' some better vote totals this summer than last year, and we will be seein' higher totals than the Spring Contest.

I was wondering if Cloud has a "semi" good chance to pull the upset over Link?? I know it seems like Link will probably win without too much of a trouble but I just can't pull myself together to put Link > Cloud ... Blame my fanboyism.. I'm wondering why Link is expected to win "without much trouble." He
won by less than 5000 votes last year, and close to the same margin
that Cloud won by in 2003. It's not like it's an impossible margin to
overcome.

pretty close and Advent Children will be released a few days before the

He has a very good chance to beat Link this year. There's no doubt about that one. The only people who think Link is a lock are those misguided people who will always say the winner the previous year will win the current year without trouble and the others who think Twilight Princess hype is somehow going to cancel out, or beat, Advent Children's release.

I'm actually beginning to think that there may be a continual
alternation from Link to Cloud. People who may not have voted in the
previous year's final match or didn't care who won and voted for Link
may decide to vote for Cloud instead, because, as we all know, the
winner of the summer contest has "always won." There won't be any
definite indication towards this until we see how Cloud performs
against Link, though.

Actually, ask your random Joe on another board, and you'll find many
people who say Cloud won all three character battles. The spring
contest highlighted just how misguided the general audience was, what
with the "FF7 always wins" avalanche of topics, regardless of the fact
that Link is the reigning champion.
Now, whether he'll defend or not is a whole new ball game. So far it's not Link and Cloud switching places, it's them constantly setting the bar higher, as shown by the consensus for X-Sts references: in 2003, Link stays the same and Cloud gets a boost, and in 2004 Cloud stays the same and Link gets a boost.
As for me, Link looked like such a beast last year I don't have the balls to pick against him, especially when almost 80% of the board picked him. Same for Samus in the main bracket.
