You took my comment out of context. You literally don't NEED the X-stats to see that Liquid did worse in the spring contest than in the summer contest. You can just see that Liquid barely lost to Frog who was pretty close to Snake to see that Liquid was about as popular as Solid Snake by comparison. And you wouldn't expect that Sephiroth would beat Solid Snake like he did Liquid, so it was obvious that Liquid Snake did worse in the spring contest. I know this is essentially what the X-stats are, but I was just responding to something that you said earlier.

If you want to talk about bracket-support hurting someone in the X-stats, you have to go all the way down the line, and more often than not, you'll fail completely.

I had never even MENTIONED the X-stats in any of my posts regarding bracket votes. The only hard stats that I mentioned were with Ken Masters. And I took that data from direct matchups. Plus the people he faced have also had TWO direct matchups. Those are the only contest numbers I really used outside of bracket numbers.

And I'm still wondering what point you are trying to bring up with Magus. Like I said, he didn't even HAVE the bracket support so it doesn't matter how well he does. But anyways, this discussion is pointless if you're going to keep taking my points in another direction....

My point was that Link underperformed badly in that match despite having overwhelming bracket-support.

As for the XS...if you want to speak of more than just the one character, you have to use them. And if you're just going to speak of one character, you're not proving anything.

Didn't Tails creep up on Dante through-out the day? I also thought Sonic generally owned fodder as far as the day-vote goes, too; not really anybody else so much, though.

SC2K5 bracket: Samus over Snake, Crono over Megaman, Samus over Crono; Link over Sephiroth
From: Sir Crono | Posted: 7/11/2005 9:45:30 AM | Message Detail
Knuckles is the only one who has owned the day vote every time. He turned close matches with Kefka and Yuna into runaway victories. He's gained on Snake every time with the day vote, too.

Sonic lost it to Cloud and did nothing with it against Samus the 2nd time. Tails hasn't really been all that powerful with it. Shadow did nothing with it against Tidus. Robotnik bombed about as badly as we've seen anybody do with the day vote every time.

Those IGN polls were bringing in about 15,000 votes per match in the first round, according to that link. Of course, the whole "Kain beating KOS-MOS with 62% of the vote" thing makes their results seem a tad useless as far as GameFAQs goes.

My biggest predictions: Mario over Samus, Alucard over Sora, Magus over Dante.
From: Lopen | Posted: 7/11/2005 1:46:30 PM | Message Detail
You've gotta put faith into Dante now after that contest... did you see him maim Tommy Vercetti? His X-Stat value is 42.85 assuming a constant Vercetti. Heheh. Yeah, I know it's pointless, but it's still pretty cool to say that.

And I'd take Kirby over Sora. You've just gotta go with your gut on a close match like that. My gut says go with the more mainstream character.

Oh, and as for that list, the only one that sticks out like a sore thumb is Alucard on the bottom. I'd take Dante and/or an assortment of FF characters over him. Not that Alucard's a slouch, and it's possible that he could be #20, but he's definitely the most debatable on that list.

Maybe with Zelda, I just kind of entered a name with 20. After the top 19 there is a quite a drop. I have Gannondorf > Auron and since I have Ganon basically = Zero = Tifa and I dont have MC or Vincent less than half a percent below Tifa, you can see how Auron will fall. Also how can you take Snake over anyone of those characters besides Vincent/Tifa or Bowser?

Auron has been SFFd the entire way and if he is close to Ganondorf he beats Snake.

Master Cheif barely lost to Frog who put up a fight against Snake, pre Halo 2. I do think MC and the gang were overrated, but I believe the biggest game of 2004 can overcome that. I also believe there is a good reason to think Bowser can beat Snake.

I'd say the top 20 (of characters that have been in contests so far) are:

1. Link
2. Cloud
3. Sephiroth
4. Samus
5. Crono
6. Mega Man
7. Mario
8. Sonic
9. Aeris
10. Bowser
11. Solid Snake
12. Ganondorf
13. Zero
14. Ryu
15. Auron
16. Tidus
17. Master Chief
18. Shadow
19. Squall
20. Dante

And yes, I realize Magus isn't on there, and yes I would take Ganondorf in a rematch against him. These rankings are from my stats, which I explained and gave several topics ago. If you wish, I can explain more.

I like it that Aprosenf's rankings give Aeris the respect she deserves, but Bowser above Ganon seems pretty strange. I can only assume that you're taking their SFF matches into account, which seems wrong.

Also, I for one would NOT pick Ganon in a rematch against Magus. The only arguments against Magus are Sam Fisher and Luca Blight. Fisher can easily be dismissed due to bracket votes - I might take his drop against Samus more seriously if Samus hadn't also completely annihilated Lara. Luca can be explained by Kefka's angel pic. Plus the fact is, when you're measuring strength it's the matches against strong characters that are far more relevant than the ones against fodder.

As I see it, the three important pieces of information regarding Magus are (1) He beat Ganon, whose strength was recently verified in the Spring Contest, (2) He put up great numbers against Link, and (3) Crono has increased nearly as much as Link has. Magus vs. Ganon rematch, I take Magus again.
