Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 152

I think Yuri and Manny will suffer bigger blowouts than Joanna, and probably Agent 47 as well. She should get to around 20%.

I can see Joanna suffering some weird kind of SFF in the same way some of us think Goldeneye suffered some weird kind of SFF to LoZ:OoT...not necessarily alot, but enough to blame it on something.

I maintain that Manny and Neo-Tanner will be the two weakest though. Yuri, well, might be over Joanna...not sure.

SC2K5 bracket: Samus over Snake, Crono over Megaman, Samus over Crono; Link over Sephiroth
From: Tediz247 | Posted: 7/7/2005 8:49:28 AM | Message Detail
Snake shouldn't have any problem breaking 90% on Manny, and Samus could do it against Yuri since all of about 5 people have played SH:C. Sora may have a problem due to anti-votes, but Neo Tanner may just be that weak.

Because I am bored, I have compiled a list of hero:villain relationships. This is not necessarily to be taken as an argument for Terra; just keep in mind that Kefka would get 40.64% on Dante :). I used the most recent appearance of the character in all cases.

Bowser would get 45.01% on Mario (thanks, Sp2k5!)
Sephiroth would get 40.27% on Cloud
M. Bison would get 35.49% on Ryu
Revolver Ocelot would get 35.37% on Solid Snake
Ramirez would get 35.21% on Vyse
Ganondorf would get 32.63% on Link
Vergil would get 32.15% on Dante
Liquid Snake would get 30.95% on Solid Snake
Ansem would get 30.67% on Sora
Andross would get 30.28% on Fox
Sin would get 29.7% on 2k4 Tidus
Wesker would get 29.62% on Jill
Albedo would get 29.57% on KOS-MOS
Dr. Wily would get 27.55% on Mega Man
Ridley would get 24.68% on Samus
Sin would get 23.58% on 2k3 Tidus*
Dr. Robotnik would get 22.5% on Sonic
Giygas would get 22.44% on Ness
Lavos would get 22.24% on Crono
Kuja would get 21.36% on Vivi
Sigma would get 21.15% on Zero (since there's no X...)
Mother Brain would get 18.96% on Samus
Officer Tenpenny would get 16.46% on Tommy Vercetti (close enough)

*Since we're so unsure about Tidus' ranking, I lied and did him twice.

The average, for anyone keeping score, is 28.6%.

so anyone think having qualifiying rounds for the contest is a good idea? might be the only way for CATS to win a match and will make sure strong characters like shadow the hedgehog get in the contest every year.of course the top 16 or top 32 should have an automatic entry to avoid noble niners facing each other before a contest

That would just drag the contest out. It's long enough as it is. Sure some fans may be upset if one of their characters don't get in, but there is MORE than enough interest drawn into the contest as is.

To be honest, I think comparing the spring contest values with summer contest values to come to a conclusion in this summer contest isn't really reliable. Also, (now this is on the topic of Terra), most of those cases are ones where the villain is not developed or not really mentioned very much in the game. With that in mind, I decided to make a list on which pairings would be comparable to Terra vs. Kefka (there's no way I could make a list everyone would agree on, so there won't be much point in correcting this).

Bowser/Mario
Sephiroth/Cloud
Bison/Ryu
Ocelot/Snake
Ramirez/Vyse
Ganondorf/Link (only because of WW)
Vergil/Dante
Liquid Snake/Solid Snake
Wesker/Jill
Albedo/KOS-MOS
Dr. Wily/Mega Man
Kuja/Vivi
Sigma/Zero

Keep in mind that for some characters, I only have a vague idea of their significance.

For those values, approximately 32% is the average. Still, Spring Contest values worry me.

The 79 people in the BOP that picked Bowser to win his division disagree with you. Anyway, I'm more or less finished arguing for Terra. If I haven't convinced you by now, I probably never will.

That doesn't mean diddly squat. I'm fairly certain every single one of these people wouldn't be surprised to see Ryu winning.

And for the record, I do think the spring results are complete BS.

Because apparently the Spring Contest means nothing, Gannondorf is weak, Magus is weak, Tidus' 2k4 stats are actually close to where he is, and Squall is just prime for taking Magus down.

Apparently.

I still refuse to actually look at the bracket I initially inputted until probably the day of lockdown. That way I will know exactly what I want, and if I originally had a match, I should probably go with my gut. The only thing I think I am going to end up changing is to Vincent>Dante, but CJ>Ness may also get flipped.

"Lucidfaia," Tauren Warrior, Skullcrusher
"Deflagratio," Orc Rogue, Skullcrusher

Deflagratio is only Level 12 at the moment, but I already like this character a lot better than the others I've tried. I'll probably be spending the bulk of the next several days powerleveling him.

Hey, nobody has anything to comment on my suggesting that Terra may also end up being comparible to Yuna?

Also, I don't necessarily think Squall doesn't have a chance to beat Magus but I highly doubt it. I AM betting on Vincent pulling it off though. This board is very pro-Magus, so I'm not taking board opinion to heart. My simple reasoning is that I think that Vincent is stronger than Aeris. And Magus isn't THAT far in front of Aeris in the 2k3 stats that we love to still use to determine Magus's strength.

but the consensus doesn't.

The only debatable part of the inequality is Tifa > Aeris, and even that's a stretch. You have more time to get attached to Tifa than you do Aeris.

Anyone who thinks that Vincent is stronger than either of them is blinded by fanboyism and immune to reason (see: Heroic Mario). Vincent is a fan favorite who is there to look T3H BADAZZ and absolutely useless to the plot of the game. He also sucks in battle.
