Samus either drops or stays constant, depending on your view of WDF

Actually, if you adjust for WDF Samus increases.

HM, out of curiousity, could you tell me what made you enjoy MGS3 the most (without spoiling me)?

I don't believe anything I have said in this little explanation has any spoilers.

It wasn't really anything concerning the story or characters, really. I greatly enjoyed the outdoor aspect of MGS3 -- I'm sure you're aware of the Camouflage Index? If not, it basically displays the characters visibility. You have all these various types of camouflage that serve to hide you in different terrains. I thought that was both well executed and very fun to mess around with. I'm not really into the sneaking around through a variety of buildings; the constant feel of being surrounded in a "jungle type" environment while having to survive on your own was nice.

There was also more emphasis on weapons, I felt. You had an assortment of different weapons to use and you could use them all more than you could in previous Metal Gear Solid games, or at least I felt that you could. It wasn't a constant sneaking around; you could, if you foudn it necessary, go crazy with the weapons. Obviously, it wouldn't have been as ideal, but still loads of fun as opposed to MGS. The stamina bar and health bar, having to eat food, etc. was all very nice touches too.

So you could probably say I greatly enjoyed the gameplay more in MGS3 than I did in the others. Perhaps it was because the environment and what you had changed, but I felt there was a definite increase in the amount of gameplay over the other two titles. My favorite character from the game -- and my favorite character in the MGS series -- was Naked Snake (Big Boss, Jack, whatever you want to call him.) The Boss was pretty good too. None of them would ever crack onto my favorites list, but still pretty solid.

Oh, and the bosses were great. Those are the some of the coolest bosses I have run across in a game. I felt the bosses in MGS were very lackluster, but MGS3 definitely upped that.

Heh. I think I've progressed past that point of simply including whatever I'm playing as the "best game" or "best character." ;)

Regardless of the fact that I'm playing FFIV, though, seeing Cecil lose to Kirby is going to suck... hard.

Yeah, MGS3 definitely had my favorite collection of boss fights ever outside of Metroid Prime 2. I agree with HM there. The only bosses I didn't like were The Pain and The Fear. Ocelot's quotes made for a very humorous battle, The End was probably the most unique boss fight ever, The Fear was awesome, The Sorrow was simply brilliant, Volgin wasn't too bad, and the final battle had one of the best atmospheres to ever grace anything.

Sigint: Uh, Snake... What are you doing?

Snake: I'm in a box.

Sigint: A cardboard box? Why are you...?

Snake: I dunno. I was just looking at it and I suddenly got this urge to get inside. No, not just an urge - more than that. It was my destiny to be here; in the box.

Sigint: Destiny...?

Snake: Yeah. And then when I put it on, I suddenly got this feeling of inner peace. I can't put it into words. I feel... safe. Like this is where I was meant to be. Like I'd found the key to true happiness.

Sigint: ...

Snake: Does any of that make sense?

Sigint: Not even a little.

Snake: You should come inside the box... Then you'll know what I mean.

Sigint: Man, I don't wanna know what you mean! Between you and Para-Medic, is everyone but me that is hooked up with the Major strange!?

Snake: ...

Sigint: Yeah, well, anyway, I suppose even that dumbass box might make a decent disguise if you wear it inside a building.

And if for no other reason, convesations like that are why everyone should play MGS3.

I just realized something. If you take into account how popular the characters were at the time 2002 has the record for The Weakest Character to Make the Second Round (Serious Sam), The Weakest Character to Make the Sweet Sixteen (Pac-Man), The Weakest Character to Make the Elite Eight (Scorpion), The Weakest Character to Make the Final Four (Crono) and The Weakest Character to Make the Final (Mario)

On the subject of Final Fantasy XII, I do believe it could potentially become more popular than Final Fantasy X here. This should definitely hold up if Final Fantasy XII is released on the Xbox 360, which I've got a good reason to believe it could be at this point, along with the PlayStation 2.

As far as Vaan is concerned, he definitely lacks any sort of "appeal" that you would find in a lead character. As feminine as some of the others have looked, Vaan can honestly be mistaken for a woman. I'm unsure of how popular he'll be, I would like to know more about his actual character before determining his strength in the contest. It shouldn't be too far away from Tidus though.

I really doubt FFXII will be ported to XBox 360 without updated graphics, and I dont know if S-E will give it that much time. I mean who would want to play FFXII besides the hardcore RPG junkies that already own it, when amazing looking games with Mistwalkers and others are out?

I really doubt FFXII will be ported to XBox 360 without updated graphics, and I dont know if S-E will give it that much time.

Well, I obviously didn't say it would be out in November when it launched. Hell, it might not even be released for the Xbox 360, but there seems to be a lot of interesting things supporting the idea that it would.

Microsoft and Square Enix have been having meetings recently in attempts to get more support from Square onto the Xbox 360. At the end of this month, Microsoft has a big announcement concerning software on the Xbox 360. This is planned to be revealed to Japan on July 25th, with a product showing on par with E3, according to Microsoft. It makes sense that this would be announced to a Japan auidence as opposed to an American one, since Japan would eat that up more.

Now, Square Enix also said earlier in June that they have a big announcement concerning Final Fantasy XII that they will reveal at the end of July. You piece both of them together and you're looking at a potential announcement concerning FFXII on the Xbox 360. To further this point, Square Enix has two separate booths setup at their Party 05 at the end of July. They wouldn't go into any more details.

But hey, that's looking like a potential release of FFXII, at some point, on the Xbox 360.

when amazing looking games with Mistwalkers and others are out?

Now you and I both know that the name "Final Fantasy" is going to create a bigger stir than anything released from Mistwalker, regardless of the quality of the two games in question.

I think its possible, depending on when they plan to release it. It would be kick ass to see a graphical update for the Xbox 360.

Not if its just a port of a PS2 game. FFXI is doomed to fail because of it. Who is going to buy an MMORPG from LAST generation.

Also, if XBox 360 attracts the same owners as XBox then I dont expect any Japanese games selling well for it.

Maybe I should explain that last comment. XBox owners were actually a much larger percentage of PC gamers than the other consoles. Knowing many PC gamers, they have a general disdain about Japanese gaming. Thats what makes them PC gamers. The only really successful Japanese developer on the XBox was the most Americanized one, Tecmo.

Not if its just a port of a PS2 game. FFXI is doomed to fail because of it. Who is going to buy an MMORPG from LAST generation.

The fact that Final Fantasy XI is being released on the Xbox 360 and will be able to play alongside PS2 and PC users seems to suggest to me that it won't be a "failure."

Also, if XBox 360 attracts the same owners as XBox then I dont expect any Japanese games selling well for it.

It's obviously not attracting the same auidence, or even the same developers. There have been many more people jumping on to support the Xbox 360 -- "people" as in developers, of course. The game selection is being far more evened out. You won't find only sports titles and FPS games on the Xbox anymore. It's going to have a number of RPGs and titles that are more based around Japan's taste, which falls in line with mine and a number of people's.

Anyway, I didn't really want to create a whole argument about the Xbox 360 in this topic, just wanted to throw out my idea I have had for a few weeks now that we may very well see FFXII on both the PS2 and X360.

Anyway...

On Terra vs. Dante, in the stats, the ratio of strength between Mario and Bowser is roughly equivalent to that of Kefka and Dante. This leads to a question: would the hero-villain gap in the Mario series be more or less significant than in FFVI?

My entire Luigi rant was very much in favor of Luigi being stronger than the stats give him credit for, by the way. There's an awful lot of coincidences that really remind me of Tails last year -- his 2k2 and 2k3 values lined up nearly perfectly, but everyone around him had problems because of Mario/Cloud and Cloud/Auron, and most of us, myself included, completely failed to see that. So we had Joe > Tails and got hosed.

The Weakest Character to Make the Final Four (Crono)

Arguably, 2k4 Mega Man was the weakest character to make the final four (in the real contest). He looks pretty bad without his SFF adjustment. No one else has ever been doubled in the final four.

Another reason to support Terra.

Crono got what, 66% against Dante in 2002, plus he's increased since then. FFVI was quite close to Chrono Trigger in the game contest. Now obviously Terra not being a traditional main character will hinder her somewhat, but I think she has quite a bit of room to maneuver.

Flop? There is a chance she might not beat Dante, but can you really see her being weaker than Kefka. As long as she isn't, Terra is not a flop.

YES I CAN! Where has been Terra been all our lives? Oh, that's it, in Kefka's bowels, so to speak. And only board nominations have brought her to the light. If she was not the main character, you would not give Terra a prayer. No upset here. Move on.

So what proof do we have that Terra isn't the strongest character in the contest? I'm sure I could put some math together that would have her competing with Link. Really, I'd like to see someone establish an argument for Vincent, or, better yet, Tifa, and then refute my argument for Terra in the same breath. She might not (and I know most of you think she will not, with good reason) be as strong as those two, but the basic reasons for thinking any of them have any strength at all are the same.
