Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 150

his path is the easiest to predict in the entire contest.

Joanna Dark? Zidane?

And yeah, that was a stupid point by me. If in-battle strength meant anything, Yuna would be the strongest FFX character.

I think in-battle strength CAN play a factor... I mean I don't think Cloud or Crono would be as popular if they didn't kick obscene amounts of ass AS the main characters of their games. You can say the same thing for Auron. Of course all I'm saying is that it's part of their intrinsic strength.

That's ONE of the reasons I'm questioning Terra to be a powerhouse, although I'm certainly hoping that she does. No one from that game stands out enough to be overwhelmingly popular (not just from a battle perspective). Zidane might suffer from that as well, as there is not much about him that makes him stand out over the other characters BESIDES being the main character. Being the main character can only get you so far in my opinion. You have to have a characteristic that makes you break the high popularity threshold.

To add on to that, I think Tifa and Vincent will be stronger than Aeris for that very reason. I think they have more things to like about them than Aeris. And if Aeris is already strong in this contest....

Of course I may be wrong...

Yoshi's two matches may have gone as expected, but I think that's a sign of a warning flag rather than an assurance. I mean there SHOULD have been sff as there was same fanbase factor in play by default. So Yoshi doing as well as he did against Bowser is to his credit, and Luigi in my mind is probably underrated as well, too.

That also brings up Zero again, who still impresses me, perhaps the most, from last years contest, because of how well he did against Megaman.

It's too bad Zero has to face Mario, I think he'll probably do as expected with 45ish. Zero is really one of my favorite contest competitors, I would have liked to see him against Crono, Samus, and definitely Solid Snake. Hell, frog, squall, and magus, too.

KOTOR SPOILERS!

Interestingly similar situation, on a much smaller scale: is HK-47 stronger than Revan would be? I'd guess no, but if Revan wasn't the main character...

You don't know that Revan is the main character until the game is nearly over, and it would be impossible to give him/her a picture anyway. I think HK-47 wins that one. Meatbag.

END KOTOR SPOILERS!

If Magus can't do it, Kratos can't do it.

What? There's nothing to support that statement at all. Magus is not the character who determines whether or not a main character is capable of being beaten by someone else from their game. Since, you know, there are more than a few people who actually like Crono. Believe it or not.

Among people who play Tales of Symphonia, Kratos is far and away the dominate favorite. Lloyd doesn't even net a second or third place. Most people take Zelos and Sheena over him as well. That isn't to say these people would be stronger than Lloyd, because they wouldn't. But Kratos is very capable of out doing Lloyd, regardless of what Magus can and cannot do.

Except that Lloyd rocks in battle, whereas there is nothing appealing about Zidane or Tidus.

I never really understood why you brought this up. It honestly does not matter how useful they are in battle.

This proves you are a little out of touch with FF3/6j and their fans. Characters and their strengths and weaknesses are always a hot topic on the FF3/6j board, and Terra is generally considered by everyone to be by far the best character in battle. Yes, enough to be "overwhelmingly popular." Before getting into her naturally high stats, and how she naturally learns very powerful spells, including Ultima... Terra has Morph, which doubles her attack stats. She is leagues ahead of the other characters, particularly in the World Of Ruin.

Well, Terra being not forced on your battle party and also absent for 1/3-1/2 of the WoB may hurt her compared to other main characters...of course, she does get far more screen time than Kefka, so we'll see.

In 2003, take a small look at what match took place before Sephiroth's trouncing of Mario. As for 2004, one can easily blame a Crono increase and/or the "God damn, I'm sick of this match; let's vote Crono to get it over with and never see it again" factor. I'm not saying Mario is a guarantee to beat Samus, but writing him off completely because of the stats is stupid. It wouldn't shock me in the least if Mario won the main bracket.

You really think Mario could beat Crono this year? Wow, that's so bold it's scary..

Wow, that's almost as good as the "I would usually never vote for X but since Y isn't in the Contest and I want to support the franchise I'll vote X, even though I like his opponent more than X." factor.

I think the best picture Cecil could ask for as far as Amano art goes is this one right here.

That actually wouldn't be that bad for him. It's certainly better than the other image CJayC could use.

Ya know, while Terra's Amano art is most likely going to be used, she does have a full-body floating around the net that isn't Amano artwork. Also, there's a heck of a lot more full-body Amano art for Kefka than just the lettuce pic, why doesn't Ceej use one of those for a change?

BTW, I like Amano art, so it'd be nice if you'd all stop trash-talking.

I've been thinking about the Ness Vs. CJ match more, and I think Ness is very much possible to win it. Ness and Scorpion both faced Auron in 2004, and assuming Scorpion didn't drop any, Ness is around Tommy Vercetti's level..

So you think that because Ness almost equalled Scorpion in 2004, and Scorpion almost equalled Vercetti in 2003, Ness could beat CJ?
