Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

contest starts on the 19th. and we don't wait for 500 anymore, because when we did wait that long, several n00bs would try to make the topic title before one of the regulars and we'd wind up with several topics from undeserving people trying to score an easy 500 topic.

Depending on how many posts the first one got, it may have caught up to the amount of posts it would have if all the first topic had reached 500, because some of the topics get 501-503 posts, due to a rush to get to the end.

I asked this in the last topic, but only got one reply. Which if the following character, if any, would you take Terra and/or Cecil to beat?

Sora
Luigi
Scorpion
Yuna
Donkey Kong
Tails
Lavos

I'd take Terra to beat everyone but Sora and maybe Luigi, but I'm not sure if I'd take Cecil over Lavos.

I'd feel bad for people who lose their perfects to matches like Lloyd/Wesker or Gordon/Leon, but predict the rest of the contest right.

While I think that will happen to some of the leaders, I really don't think we'll be seeing a perfect bracket after the regular 64-bracket is done.

I honestly don't see the casuals doing good with this bracket. Basically all the 4/5 matches are upsets, newbies like CJ and Kratos will be over-estimated, then they'll bomb the later rounds with matches like Samus/Mario, Mega/Sonic and Crono/Mega.

This could be a good year bracket-wise for Board 8.

Bracketmakers would have to pick between Link and Cloud in any case. But the TOC does allow for the leaderboard to be shuffled quite a bit if Samus beats Sephiroth.

But yeah, sucks if you could've won the main bracket, but were screwed over by the ToC.

Not really. That's the way the bracket was designed. It isn't a traditional style where we would have to pick Link/Cloud and hopefully Sephiroth/Samus anyway. I'm actually glad that this is going to come down to a series of big picks.

8 points sounds good. Matches worth 64 or 128 points would be a little weird. 8 points is just the right amount to change the leaderboard and vault someone into the lead for picking Samus to beat Sephiroth.

I can give you one reason

Halo 2
From: therealmnm | Posted: 7/2/2005 12:05:08 AM | Message Detail
Okay, I did a tally of the votes so far in the Favorite Final Fantasy VI character topic. I only counted the top 5 (or fewer if there wasn't 5) characters off of everybody's list, since the point of this is to figure out favorite characters. Listing everyone wouldn't do it much justice since there are obviously characters that people DON'T like that still would be listed otherwise. I also only included playable characters and Kefka for contest comparison. Votes for characters like General Leo and Ultros were skipped over and the next character was counted instead. So my format was a 1st place vote got 5 points, 2nd got 4 points all the way down to 5th place getting 1 point. These are the results after 47 votes.

Character - # of points (# of 1st place votes) - total appearances in top 5

1. Celes ---------- 101 (8) ------ 28
2. Locke ---------- 95 (8) ------- 28
3. Kefka*---------- 83 (11) ------ 22
4. Terra ---------- 81 (4) -------- 25
5. Edgar --------- 78 (3) -------- 30
6. Shadow ------ 62 (3) -------- 22
7. Sabin --------- 56 (1) -------- 22
8. Cyan ---------- 38 (3) -------- 12
9. Mog ----------- 27 (3) -------- 10
10. Setzer ------ 16 (1) --------- 8
11. Gogo -------- 6 --------------- 3
12. Relm --------- 7 (1) ---------- 2
13. Gau ---------- 4 -------------- 1
14. Umaro ------- 1 -------------- 1
15. Strago ------- 0 -------------- 0

*A couple of people only included the playable characters so Kefka may or may not have been shafted by a couple of points

Results after 47 votes -

Most Popular Character Overall: Celes
Most First Place Votes: Kefka
Most Top 5 Appearances: Edgar

Conclusion: Well, I was right AND wrong. Apparently there may BE a favorite who might be significantly stronger than Kefka. It just isn't Terra so far. Actually, Kefka isn't THAT far away from the top. And you have to add into account the few people that only ranked playable characters. Still, this is only 47 votes, so you can't draw TOO much from this. It's just a rough, rough indication if anything. Other conclusions that can be drawn:

1. Many that like Kefka like him a LOT by indication of the number of first place votes he got. However, I saw that many people did not care for him at all, or in the least, liked other characters far better.

2. Edgar is liked by MANY people in general, but few people have him as their favorite character. The situation of him and Kefka may be similar to other characters from other games like FFVII. I think Tifa may be similar to Edgar, in that many people like her, but few people have her as her favorite. I think she might sneak up on a lot of people in the contest due to that. Unfortunately Vincent may have the same case as Kefka. The people that DO like him LIKE him a lot, but there may be a lot of others that don't care for him. There's a lot to see in this contest.

3. Nobody likes Strago at all... Poor guy. ;_; I at least liked to collect his Lores/Blue Magic.
