Wow, I wish the nomination period hadn't been so short. I only got to use half of my noms. Also there's the question that others have raised about this possibly leading to a more cultish bracket, with the board having a disproportionate influence.

As for all this Vincent stuff, I see him in the 25%+ to low 30's range. Next year he should be at 30%-35% or higher (unless DoC is really horrible).

Really, I don't see what's so hard to believe about HM's assertion that Vincent has the potential to be at Mario level next year.

As he said very eloquently, Vincent has so much appeal that Cloud's KH artist altered him to look more like Vincent, and Square decided to give him his own game. HM shouldn't keep needing to bring up the same points. In this case he's actually being pretty rationale (as others have also mentioned).

As for Yuffie and Vyse...come on. Let's get real.

Do people just forget what game we're talking about here?? A lot of people seem to have the misconception that Final Fantasy 7's strength tends to be overrated around here. Where does this come from? FFVII has yet to really disappoint in terms of contest strength.

Vyse being stronger than Yuffie is not impossible, but one should expect no such thing. If that ever happens it should be pretty surprising to us.

Yuffie isn't THAT hated...anyway, she DOES have her fans, and she's playable, too. I think someone like Don Corneo would be more comparable to Tingle or Rito, and Yuffie is lightyears ahead of Don.

You're comparing minor characters who most people will not even remember or in Tingle's case, people will remember him for how badly he sucked. Comparing them to a playable character in Yuffie doesn't make much sense.

Instead of Rito put Impa or any other Zelda character not named Link, Zelda, Gannon, or Epona. Id have a hard time beleiving even Malon or Sara would beat Vyse.

The problem with Zelda characters is that many of them don't have any particular attachment to them. As strong as the series or Link may be, I wouldn't expect any of the characters outside of Link, Ganon, Zelda, and maybe Epona to be worth anything.

Final Fantasy VII, on the other hand, features many memorable characters and a nice size playable cast. It's about the only game where I would see NPCs who aren't the main villain being worth something in a contest environment (Rufus, Reno, Rude).

But again, I just don't believe that Zelda characters have much of ones worth mentioning past those four you brought up. I would take virtually every FFVII character mentioned to be worth something over nearly all of the "extra" characters from Zelda.

Yuffie has more than a share of fans, as well as the wondrous Kingdom Hearts to help out any "optional" status that people, for some reason, like to peg on her. She's not the most liked character from FFVII, but no one is calling for her to beat someone noteworthy.

Saria? No, she doesn't. She appears in the beginning of the game, a small snipet after you leave Hyrule, and then in the Forest Temple where you merely rescue her. The role she plays is both insignificant and she has no real reason to be liked. The biggest thing about the Turks is that they had this "aura," if you will, of being badass -- handling all the dirty work and behind the scenes action for Shinra.

If anything, you could claim their role to be the same, but Saria's was in no way bigger, much less "much bigger." But for the record, I wouldn't take Saria to beat Vyse either. However, I just stated that I don't expect many Zelda characters to be worth anything anyway. That's a perfect case of where franchise votes aren't going to get you places fast. It's best to use that particular idea there than it is against Final Fantasy VII.

Also Epona would be quite the opponent. I say the horse could land around Mario's steed.

Eh, I doubt she'd be that close to him. But it's not completely unreasonable to believe so.

You forgot you can talk to her throughout the game. I will agree that any of the playable characters could beat Vyse, outside of Cait Sith. Im not seeing any of the Turks.

I think Vincent would take it without any trouble. Zelda's ranking would be around 27% on 2004 Link while I think Vincent is around 30-32% on 2004 Link. Using that 30% area, Vincent would win with 55% of the vote. Hardly a tossup.

The Revolution is looking to launch at the end of 2006 as opposed to spring. That'll be Sony's timeframe.

There's not even a guarantee that Solid Snake is that high to begin with. And I have no problem sticking that close to Snake because Snake isn't someone who would only lose to the elite set of characters.

Word is characters like Vincent, Irvine, and Laguna were considered for Kingdom Hearts but could not be added because of their choice of weaponry... But KH2 is much more mature, so maybe we'll see an appearance?
