I went back and looked at my averages, and I remember why I originally used Vyse as the fodder line: he ranked 64th. Now, unfortunately, he's 69th and Sam Fisher took his place. Now, Sam isn't what I would call consistent, so I think it would be wise to continue using Vyse. Anyway, since I was bored, I made a 64 character bracket using the all time averages. There's a surprising amount of rematches.

Why shouldn't Vincent be on Magus' level? I've never played FFVII, but it seems like Vincent is a fan favorite as Magus is. And remember, FFVII > Chrono Trigger.

If we can assume this:
Cloud:Sephiroth :: Crono:Magus

Then I'd say that Vincent would be to Cloud as Frog to Crono, which is... near Magus.

Okay, people. Since this is just so crazy, lets take a look at it for a second.


Aeris would rank around that 29% area where Master Chief lies in 2004 -- that would put her at getting 32% on 2003 Link. Now, how much higher is Magus? 3% you say? Oh, why, it's so ridiculous for Vincent to be within there? Hell, Aeris is near Magus's level.

Magus would have beat Aeris, should she not have dropped or anything, with around 54% of the vote. GASP! Now, Vincent couldn't possibly make that much closer, right?

The day Vincent Valentine finishes ahead of Mario in a Summer Contest is the day I leave GameFAQs. Right now I'd put Vincent at a little below Aeris, and after DoC/AC, I'd be willing to say that he'd give Zero and Ganon a run for their money.

Vincent? Above Aeris? Aeris is integral to FF7, Vincent is not. That could make the difference.

Vincent doesn't have to play a major role within the game in order to be above Aeris. It's like you have no idea how the fanbase even thinks. Tifa would be above Aeris; Vincent would be above Aeris.

Being optional is not going to hurt someone who has had as much exposure as Vincent. The game has been out for eight years, is the most popular game on GameFAQs, and is the FAQs from the game were a big contributions to making this site so large.

Thinking that being optional is going to hurt someone like that is absolutely ludicrous.

I stand by being optional hurting Vincent and Yuffie both, though it certainly wouldn't be the factor that kills either one. However, I think it's enough to knock Vincent just below Tifa and Aeris.

Cloud:Sephiroth = 1.136
Crono:"Adjusted Magus" = 1.141

Cloud:Crono = 1.296
Sephiroth:Magus = 1.302
Final Fantasy VII:Chrono Trigger = 1.197

Apparently Chrono Trigger performs better than its characters in relationship to FFVII.

The corrolation is undeniable.

Now that I think about it, Vincent hasn't been in any contest, so he can't be that popular.
Yeah, I know the 'He hasn't been here yet so he's weak' argument is kinda stale, but Aeris got in over him. And how many times exactly have we seen a weaker character from the same series get in before a stronger one? Right, not much, Tidus/Auron is the only possible case I could think off. This makes me think that Vincent won't be stronger then Aeris, to each his own tough ^^

Yeah, I think Tifa, Aeris, and Vincent are all goin' to be pretty close to each other; while I think Tifa >> Aeris > Vincent (in proportions here, continue reading), I don't see Tifa being any stronger than Ganon (which is a tough stretch) while I don't see Vincent being any weaker than Dante (again, a tough stretch). I do think Tifa will be further ahead of Aeris than Aeris will be further ahead of Vincent though, thus my lil' equation above. Using 2k3 stats, assuming my bounderies and equation for them is right, that means Tifa wouldn't be able to beat Vincent any worse than 59-41 (with no SFF), and Aeris would be in-between the two.

Now, I wanna note that I think a Tifa/Vincent match would be a good bit closer than that. However, I think it's a good predction that none of those three would be able to get outside of that range (and would likely be noticably closer than that), thus making the three pretty close together.
