The other quite obvious problem with that data is that Link2k3 ranks ahead of Cloud2k3, which means that if the data is right, then Cloud overperformed in 2k3, an indication of the KHF. Of course, I don't think this data is that accurate yet, but I'm presenting it as food for thought.

It doesn't mean he overperformed, it just means he was stronger in 2k3 than least-squares regression would suggest - right? I mean, if he overperformed for a whole contest, then that was his actual strength that year.

This, unless I'm mistaken, is the SFF problem rearing its head. Ryu did worse against Sora than he was supposed to, because Sora was underrated due to being SFFed. Thus Ryu's strength is also underrated.

These are great numbers, Aprosenf... I would love to see what the results were if you recalculated with it ignoring results from the obvious SFF matches.

- I'd take Samus over Mario with no question. This isn't 2002. Mario may be an icon, but he hasn't done ANYTHING recently to convince me that he can beat Sonic. Although many people feel that Crono increased, I think he beat Mario because people aren't caring about Mario as much as they used to. Hell, even Nintendo has taken the focus off of Mario and placed it on Samus and Link. I think Samus is generally more popular than Mario as of now.

- I'm happy that people are FINALLY admitting that Sonic is capable of beating Solid Snake. I remember I said that a year or two back, and people jumped all over me. Of course, that was back during the Magus > Sonic bandwagon. I remember UltimaterializerX even called me insane for saying that and pointed out the common matches with Aeris and Ryu.

- I think there should be NO more talk of a Noble Nine. As Bowser and Ganondorf have shown in the Spring contest, there are a group of characters that are right there in strength. There is no "cut-off" unless you force one. There are just characters that are stronger than others, but everyone falls into place. Outside of Clinkeroth, EVERYBODY has someone that can questionably beat them in any given poll.

- Speaking of which, why is Zero being given zero respect now? For as little data as we have had on him, he has kicked ass. He got almost 48% on Sonic. He did BETTER on Mega Man than Solid Snake did. It's insane for people to think that he wouldn't have a chance against Solid Snake, Bowser, Magus, or Ganon when he's right there in strength.

Mega Man wasn't entirely impressive last year, he still can make a match competitive against Mario. Even if you take his complete unadjusted level, Mario would win with only 53.4% of the vote. Obviously, I wouldn't say that he's at his completely unadjusted level but I wouldn't say he was at his 2003 level either.

Anyway, I don't believe there to be any sort of "SFF" with that Link match nor do I believe that Nintendo characters have any sort of benefit over Mega Man or its characters. I'm going against the majority here, but I very much believe Mega Man could win that match.

Oh and Diablo 2 is pretty fun, even if you just go on Bnet to play a single player game and raise a character or two. I'd do it publicly, but the only character I'm any good with is Barbarian and I don't feel like nearing the 'n00b!" cries yet. I woulnd't mind raising a Lightning Sorcerer, but my Sorcerer currently.... sucks. She doesn't fit my style, anyway. I'm a front lines power fighter, not a back lines magic user.

I like power more than finesse, unless you're talking about defensive finesse and speed. Chun-Li, for example :)

But seriously, almost every football team that wins it all knows how to play defense and knows how to physically beat the hell out of the other team. The Colts are a shining example of how you need mroe than just offense to win. `

The Noble Nine may sound better but this ain't music. If the term has no use we need to drop it.

The Elite Eight does has a specfic meaning, those who should arrive at the round of 8. The contests are bracketed the way NCAA tourneys are. The term and its meaning applies here.

The Super Seven(agreed that the name needs work) as everyone has said still holds the most legitamacy. There might not be enough direct evidence to show that Sonic has fallen from the likes of Mario, Crono, MM, and Samus but there is enough to seriously speculate to a point that the term gains meaning.

The term is useable, and the burden of proof to quash it is on Sonic.

best kind of diablo2 sorc is orb/stat, especially if you're playing classic. if it's xpac you might consider blizzard sorc. i always make lightning sorcs though b/c you can do everything within the one tree. for barbarians, you just gotta know what to max. bo, wep. mastery, ww, shout, and then w/e you want, iron skin maybe.

...hell, Magus got 34.93% against Link in 2k3; that's more than 2.5% closer to Link than Mega Man was. To be fair, Link 2k4 was a different beast entirely from Link 2k2 or 2k3, but Magus still looks to be hot on Mega Man's trails if using common opponents here is effective.

Whether you want to use that in arguments about dropping Mega Man from the ___ (insert hip new elite-group name) or for Magus having a great shot against Sonic, it's your call.

Samus vs Mario - A long time ago, you'd probably get **** down your throat picking otherwise. And hell, the results might or might not make it look like that situation still stands.

Sonic vs Solid Snake - All in all, a tossup, which is why I'll always feel the Noble Nine should exist. However, the fate of it would probably be determined through this match like no other.

Megaman vs Mario - I can't see a non-Nintendo or non-Square character beating Mario, of all people. It might seem silly to base this off companies again (especially me.. :-( ), but it seems to be clear as we go on that Nintendo and Square are the empires of this contest, so to speak, and support will never be sufficent enough to take down the strongest of these companies anytime in the future, or at least, not this year.

Samus vs Megaman - Check Megaman vs Mario info and replace Mario with Samus.

Solid Snake vs Mario - Again, look at Megman vs Mario and Samus vs Megaman.
