Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 139
From: Mumei | Posted: 6/5/2005 11:23:32 AM | Message Detail
... Has there been any talk about new contests? I'm not exactly on that often (second time this week...), so...

Also, hello, Chichiri. ^_^

I would expect Halo 3 to do a little with the day vote, but not anything huge.

It's above MGS4 now.

The Guru Contest: Where yoblazer owned my ass.
From: ChichiriMuyo | Posted: 6/5/2005 11:28:57 AM | Message Detail
Ancient Division

1 Aeris
8 Jeane (Suikoden series)

I can't see Suiko scraping togater a contestant outside of Luca.

4 Mai Shiranui (Fatal Fury)
5 Jam Kudoiberi (Guilty Gear)

Both strike me as over seeded, and they are my favorite females from their respective games. Hell, Jam's my favorite GG character period. Auto-loss round 2.

3 Rinoa
6 Claire Redfield

Not bad of a match, it'll kill quite a few people early on (even though the stronger character will be seeded higher) like Frog/Liquid. Rinoa seems a little high for her age though.

2 KOS-MOS
7 Lara Croft

Only 4 females made it to 2k4, and you've seeded one of them as a 7? She's droping like a brick but when the competition has weakened this much I still see Lara getting at least a middle seed. KOS will be vaguely competitive in the div finals, but not a winner by any means.

Hylain Princess Division

1 Zelda
8 Beatrix (FF9)

I love Beatrix but I can't see her making it before Garnet in all honesty.

4 Dixie Kong
5 Roll

I don't see either getting seeded that high. It'd be a tough match to call if they were though.

3 Kid (Chrono Cross)
6 Kairi (Kingdom Hearts)

Wow, that's a killer. KH is so unpredictable it's not even funny. Could go either way, but I'd back Kid.

2 Tifa
7 Lyndis

Eh. Toughest Division finals, at least.

Toadstool Division

1 Peach
8 Sheena Fujibayash (Tales of Symphonia)

Peach stomps. I'm not sure why so many pick Sheenam since I haven't played the game, but I get the feeling Colette is the main female. That being said, I can't see Sheena making it.

4 Chun-Li
5 Yuna

Another bracket breaker, but an easy Chun-li victory in my book. Vs. Peach will be a tight match, and the winner will do so only barely.

3 Sarah Kerrigan
6 Morrigan

I don't expect any 2k2 characters to be the houses they once were, I'd take Kerrigan in this match but not the second.

2 Terra
7 Taki (Soul Calibur)

I really hate people matching up Terra with Morrigan. It's like you're trying to recreate the Ruin division finals. Sorry, but I tend to consider those things lame. Terra to the finals and with an ever so slight win.

Bounty Hunter Division

1 Samus
8 Luna (Lunar:SSS)

I love Luna, and would love to see her in a contest, but the support isn't there for her like Ghaleon and he didn't do so hot in the contest. Can't see her making it.

4 Meryl
5 Joanna Dark

Tough match, but only a 1 pointer.

3 Marle
6 Cammy

Also a tough match. I'd pick Marle but I wouldn't expect a slaughter. The next round match is also tough.

2 Jill Valentine
7 Celes

7 over 2 victoly! I think the next match would kill me for thinking about it. I guess Celes wins, I dunno.

Overall: I think the hardest bracket to predict yet. In fact, so hard we'd never see it.

I just read the first 4 pages, and I love the Kerrigan talk. However, I am still deeply disturbed that Heroic Mario is the one going on about Kerrigan. That is almost a guarantee that she will be weak. ;_;

If it was 64 heroes (since ceej would undoubtedly call any goodguy a hero) I might see it. Even though heroes own the summer it's also filled with chicks, badies, sidekicks and anti-heroes. If you go be the deffinition of Hero there'd be a lot of room, but I think a Sui character would still barely miss out.

He's blindly accepting that she should be equal to Diablo despite all the things he has going for him that she does not. Sorry, but I can't see her as a top 10 female (which is undoubtedly the ridiculous number of things he disagrees with me on) and I can't see her as strong as Diablo. If there were no SFF I'd expect him to win with nearly 60% of the vote.

At the end of round 1, when Ansem looked pitiful and we didn't know how the rest of the Triforce division compared, I said I would take Ansem over Kerrigan. After seeing Ansem actually being the second strongest in that division, I would still take him over Kerrigan. I can't convince you, but Kerrigan is not to StarCraft/SC:BW as Diablo is to Diablo/Diablo II/DII:LoD.

60/40 is at least believable, but hardly constitutes a phrase such as "eating him alive". Link and Cloud are CATS alive, even Ryu did... Diablo would not have done so by my deffinition. That's a phrase best left for near-elites, and Kerrigan is by no means such a thing.

Her missing the last contest gives me doubts. She'd be seeded quite high, of course, but she could conceivably miss the 1.

Well, sure, she missed the big show, but so did Aeris. You certainly wouldn't hesitate to give Aeris a #1 seed would you? I wouldn't. And I wouldn't hesitate to give Zelda her #1 seed. There honestly isn't a situation where I could imagine someone getting the seed over her. I see it going two Nintendo and two Square, especially in a very limited female contest.

For seeding? You're missing KOS-MOS who always gets seeded well.

I think I said that comment from actual matches. The only characters that are no doubt ahead of Zelda is Samus. Aeris and Tifa are the other two with some doubts surrounding them, but are right there with her. Everyone else is significantly beneath those four.

how DOyou disagree with me? Other than Lyndis (who I don't think people will know) and your Kerrigan Fanboyism

That and how who would we would take in the big matches concerning Zelda/Tifa/Aeris. I suppose that's the bulk of it, but I can go back and check again to see what I disagreed with the most. It seemed like it was so much that I didn't bother to respond to any of the points. =p

Or are you just overstating that like a MM character in a match?

Speaking of which, I refuse to believe there are any other Mega Man characters that are capable of doing anything in a match. I think you mentioned Roll being weak, and I couldn't agree more.

Oh, good grief. Are you being serious? You're on the other end of that spectrum, buddy. You don't give Kerrigan enough credit, especially with all the advantages she has over Diablo. To think that she wouldn't rip CATS a new one is just... crazy. Pushing that whole Ganon only gets 55% against Dante crazy.

i will agree with HM here. i'm about 25% through the game (i think), and although Collette is the main chick, i can't stand her. Sheena is far cooler. even Raine is cooler. i haven't ran into Presea yet, though, so i can't judge her yet. but yeah, Collette sucks.

Because unlike you, I don't think they sucked it up. Yes, they didn't perform up to expectations, but they didn't totally implode. I still think that Wily could win a match in a SC if he had a good position (say, a 10 seed against Tails or DK). I'm not saying that any of them will be threatening the contest regulars, but they wouldn't embarrass themselves unless they went up against the Nobles or the Heir Apparents.
