Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 137

Funny stuff, if Bowser loses with 40% of the vote, Ocelot beats Liquid Snake according to the stats 56-44.

Since when is Bowser more liked as a villian? Thats debatable at best and we have no idea where they stand stats wise because Gannondorf could be anywhere from just under Sonic level to Kirby level.

It's official, we can't translate the X-Sts of a character battle onto a villain contest.

And I'm gonna say it now, Ganondorf may actually win this thing if franchise voting matters any.

Well, we were wrong. There's just going to be no point in having a jillion gazillion adjustments for everything, because the voting patterns are clearly different. From CATS' huge increase compared to Ganon to Luca's big fall compared to Kefka to Sephiroth tripling Liquid, and now this.

Just try to imagine, if Ganondorf actually beats Sephiroth, all the idiots who are going to have Link vs. Ganondorf finals this summer.

Actually, it may be a good trap to set for n00bs who ask how far Ganondorf or (insert related character here) would get. "Dude, he beat SEPHIROTH! He's going to the finals for sure!"

Do you mean, you have that in your bracket or you just thought it has a chance to happen?

Fun thing is, if CJayC changed his mind about banning champions and made this one express to ban Sephiroth, just imagine how stumped he's going to be if Ganondorf wins. All the more reason to vote Ganondorf on Thursday!

Lord no, I didn't put that in my bracket. I played it safe and took the Sephy road. But I did make several topics before the Contest claiming Ganondorf had a good chance beating Seph if the LoZ backing helped him out enough.

I'm not buying the contest being completely useless for stats until the entire contest, and even then, I'm positive we can still find some things of use. As for today, right now I'm satisfied where Bowser is at right now (stat-wise; preference has me pounding my fist, heh), and he will probably drop to about 38%.

Oh, and I honestly couldn't see Bowser falling that much throughout the day. He's never been one to just drop the day vote and if he falls at all, the match would end around 60/40.

I got a theory about the different voting patterns here: I'm not blaming it on it being a differently-labeled contest at all...instead, I wanna say this: with the merger/deal/whatever made between GameFAQs and GameSpot (and MP3.com too, I guess), it's very possible we've simply gotten a more varied pool than we've ever had. A new influx of fans that wouldn't have come last year without GameSpot, perhaps...and, while not always, I would assume this helps the casual characters more than anybody else if I'm onto something with this theory; Bowser (and Mario too) immediately come to mind, while Master Chief may wind up being somebody to not mess with this summer too.....

my theory is really, really simple: everyone's really sick of ff7 being the top game here and anti-vote. you could take the weakest character ever and put him against Seph and he'd get 10% simply from anti-voting.

I imagine the same people who vote for Bowser will vote for Ganon, so I'd be surprised if the results are much different. I'd be hard-pressed to find someone who ranks the top three Bowser-Seph-Ganon or Ganon-Seph-Bowser.

Wasn't it already done last summer? I'm not talking about the account thing, but rather the merger between the sites' boards. I just don't think the universal accounts have to be accounted for so much.

I'm not sure 'bout when the boards really merged, though I do remember there bein' some tension and refusal when it first came about. A year's passed now, so perhaps there's been more acceptance and visitation now. Again, just a theory; I'm not bought on it yet either.

Yeah, Bowser > Sephiroth > Ganon...all three rule though, and I might end up still voting for Ganon.

Someone's probably already said this already, but I'm not reading the topic yet.

This match has proven this contest is an entirely different animal. Or it should. I bet when I read through this I'll see some mathematical data proving that Bowser could've scored this much in past summers.

No. We could NEVER prove such a thing. Bowser and Liquid are pretty much equals... yet there's an 18-point difference against Seph. The stats we gather here are good for the trash. I mean come on, assuming we're seeing 2003 Seph, Bowser would beat anyone short of Link, Cloud, Sephiroth and Samus. Yes, Bowser would be projected to beat CRONO with these results. No way that's true.

2005 Seph < 2003 Seph.

Liquid's not even a blemish on Koopa's shelled keister. He'd of been knocked good and dead by a considerable margin. And while I like LS, I think he may have been sorely over-rated strength-wise.
