Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 136
From: creativename | Posted: 5/30/2005 11:18:45 AM | Message Detail
People need to get over this psychological hurdle that CATS can't win a match.

This looks like remants of that ridiculous idea that CATS had a ceiling for votes.

CATS certainly can win matches if he's up against the right character.

It is truly shocking to consider that Kuja may be one of those characters...and I, like just about everybody, would still pick Kuja to beat CATS in such a match. But then, just about everybody picked Kuja to beat MH, and Link to beat Cloud in 2K3, too.

It isn't impossible that Kuja is just a total jobber. I don't like the concept of that, as I like Kuja. But it might be true.

I might actually be more surprised that Sin is so weak.

This is a beating of just epic proportions... What kind of % is Ganon pulling in over the last couple hours to spike so greatly in %, when he was already almost tripling Robotnik to begin with!?!

It's strange how the other Sonic characters are among the best at getting the day vote, while Robotnik has been abysmal with it in every match.

Whoa, Ganondorf has increased .4% in the last hour. This is ridiculous.

More like ridiculously awesome. Ganondorf is looking to do very well against both Diablo and Sephiroth at this rate.

somehow this all villain contest doesn't quite show a character's real strength for me. since there are only villains, fans of one game will be putting their entire support behind one person because the hero of their game is not present

Considering the fact that it looks like none of the other new characters are going to rank above Kefka except for Bison, Diablo's pretty much a lock for strongest newbie.

The sad thing is that people who thought Ocelot would be near Liquid Snake in strength before the contest might actually turn out to be right.

Just sort of an ironic twist to that one though.

Just for fun, basing Liquid's value on 2004 Sephy, Ocelot would get nearly 47% on him. If that had been true with Liquid's 2004 value, Bowser would've won with 51.29%.

The funny thing is, if somehow Master Hand had beat Robotnik and managed to get the same % on Ganon as Robotnik is doing, everyone would've said it was SSBM SFF—and then we would've had a convenient excuse for raising Kuja up.

Let's take this moment to laugh at Robotnik.

Oh my dear God.

creativename and RPGuy, you'd better not make any adjustments in this contest's version of the stats. This is just too funny.

Ansem outdoing Robotnik, this is just too good. You know I think I'd put CATS over Kuja now. If nothing else just because it's a great upset pick. Heck, at this rate it looks like CATS would beat Master Hand as well. Ansem being the deserving 2 seed of the division... oh man I'm loving it. Keep him down, Ganondorf!

I was trying to think of some characters who would of done better in this contest then most of the new characters. I came up with:

Majora's Mask
Metroid Prime
Hojo
Seifer
Kerrigan

Maybe Booster, Akuma, Lynx, Aghanim (sp?), and Im quickly hitting a blank.

I reiterate, this contest makes no sense. Oh well.

Did I miss something? I just bought Tales Of Symphonia from Media Play for $20. That's the same price as Eternal Darkness and the original Metal Gear Solid. Has it been that low for a while now?

Balrog, Vega, and Sagat all would've done better than most in the contest. Street Fighter's mid-carder heaven. Shao Kahn and Goro too. And yes, even Raikov would've done better than a few. That's kinda sad.

Well I just have no idea how strong the characters are in Super Mario RPG. It was the best selling RPG up until Final Fantasy VII and for a lot of people was their first memory of an RPG (Actually my fourth behind Crono Trigger, Shining Force II, and Final Fantasy VI, funny those are also my favorite three RPGs.)

I was really trying to come up with the second best Mario villian and its either Booster or the villian from Mario and Luigi.

The only one I'm not so sure about is Balrog. Even so, I think the SF name could carry Balrog over quite a few of these entrants.

But, I think Vega could possibly out-do Sagat. He's got a decent following out there, and is in every game Sagat's in. Heck, in that "best Street Fighter" poll I believe Vega outdid everybody but Ryu, Ken, and Chun Li. I could be wrong though. Let's find out.

I have only played through the SFII and all its spinoffs (Turbo, Super, Tournament, etc.) and the first SFIII, and I probably rank the top 5 characters I remember as:

1. Ryu
2. Chun-Li
3. Bison
4. Ken
5. Vega

Ansem is just another example of the typical Kingdom Hearts pattern—high expectations, appear to flop hard, and then seem to not have flopped as hard as initially thought in retrospect.

It's old hat now.
