Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

Right now, I'm hoping for only two things to occur in the final match:

1. Ganondorf makes it without being doubled.
2. The match draws an unimpressive amount of votes. Somewhere around 90,000.

Relying on the stats in every situation will have you losing more than just a few matches, too.

Mostly the close ones. Then that's when common sense comes in handy. Heck, that was the whole basis of my "Tidus is going to beat Shadow" guarantee. When they're that close, Tidus had the obvious edge in just about every category.

And I'm only defending the stats because it's ridiculous saying, "Bah, it's just common sense and there's no way it could ever happen otherwise because I just know these things," when we've got data right before our eyes that DOES say otherwise.

But then again, apparently thinking that data could POSSIBLY override what is considered "common sense" means I can't think straight.

Sorry to veer from the discussion but I have to know about something. What is this "usermap axing" people talk about? It sounds vicious.

A User Map Axe is when all GameFAQs accounts on a usermap get banned due to the actions of one or more accounts on the User Map. A User Map is the thing GameFAQs creates to track which accounts have been used on a computer. After a certain period of time an account falls off a user map, at that point the actions of other accounts on that user map will no longer affect that account that fell off.

Kuja can't be that weak... can he?

I dunno, maybe the pic's to blame... a casual FF9 fan might not... remember the name Kuja? I didn't recognize the "trance pic" right off, I'll say that. He wasn't in trance for very long in that game.

Um... I have no idea, I'm stumped. I'd definitely take Andross over Kuja though. Probably over Master Hand too, for that matter.

Just one final note: HM, I'm not blindly following what the stats say because they're the stats. I'm just saying you shouldn't be adamantly disregarding what they say just because it defies "common sense." You're flat-out rejecting so much as the POSSIBILITY that they're right. And that's all I'm saying the stats are suggesting. There is a possibility, which you are so adamantly denying. That is ALL I'm getting at, nothing more.

Now I'm done with that.

I'm surprised that we lost every single perfect left in that match.

Ganon doing this well doesn't surprise me, Robotnik was just a weak character in a weaker four pack. Kuja being ranked that low may seem incredibly wrong, but this contest has seen crazier things happen.

From the last topic...

Well if WW Ganon is more powerful that pretty much destroys the WW pic handicapped Link in 2k3 arguement.

Okay, this is probably the last time I argue about this, because it's pretty much useless arguing this in this topic. WW Ganondorf isn't NEARLY as complained about as WW Link. I'll leave it at this, if Shigeru Miyamoto himself admitted that there was much complaining about the WW character model, enough that they made it a goal to remedy it in the next Gamecube Zelda title. I mean look at the difference in how WW and TP were initially received. My point is that if there was enough complaining about the WW model for Miyamoto to acknowledge it, then why couldn't it be a factor in this contest?

A lot of people are assuming that people will either vote for a character or won't vote for a character the same way EVERY time. That simply isn't the case. Yes, WW Link may not be a big enough factor for people to simply not vote for him even among lesser characters. It's not like I'm saying he's weak. But against a character as popular as Cloud, I don't see why it isn't possible for a number of voters to vote Cloud over WW Link. I think we can all agree that there are many Link fans who don't care for the WW model, so why is it unfathomable for that to have an effect in a match?

I'm dropping it from now on though, because it's clearly pointless to argue this in this topic....

A lot of people are assuming that people will either vote for a character or won't vote for a character the same way EVERY time.

That's true. It's not the same principle, but I changed voting for and against Starcraft three times. Two were bracket votes, one was an anti-vote, one was a bandwagon-jumping vote.

I think Wesker would beat Albedo.

Agreed. That may just be a huge choke job against Kefka.

Using Kefka's figure from sc2k4.com's SFF adjusted extrapolated stats, I thought I'd work out where the Ruin division lies:

Vercetti>Diablo>Luigi

Donkey Kong>Bison>Tails

Viewtiful Joe>Ridley>Scorpion

Conker>Mithos>Sam Fisher

Lara Croft>Albedo>Gordon Freeman

Terry Bogard>Wesker>Luca (old figure)

JC Denton>Luca (new figure)>Ratchet

Luca was at 12.35 then, and at 10.12 through SC2K4 Kefka using this contest's stats.

Let me see. Here are several reasons IMO that might have affected Kuja's performance (especially when compared to Vivi.)

1. FF9 sold significantly fewer copies compared to the other next-gen FFs (excluding FFX-2). Higher sales don't guarantee success in the contest of course but more sales means more casual awareness.

2. If I recall correctly, FF9 didn't exactly do all that great in a POTD that asked about favorite Final Fantasy's.

3. Kuja is not a hero.

4. Kuja is not a black mage.

5. Kuja looks effeminate. That might have turned off some people.

6. Kuja shared the "villain" spotlight with too many other people in his own game. The focus was more on Brahne in the early part of the game and on Garland in the later portions. Heck, he's not even the final boss.

7. People don't consider Kuja to be "badass" enough. Nor is he cult or "faddish" (like Ultros or CATS).

8. Apathy. Perhaps people didn't care enough about his character. That's actually worse than being reviled since most people wouldn't bother voting (or anti-voting) him.
