Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 134

Either that, or something went wrong with Liquid last summer. I just don't buy a large drop like that out of nowhere.

I've been thinking Liquid, Frog and MC were all too high, but jeez, I'll admit this is a bigger drop than I expected.

It's going to be rather difficult to place MC and Frog in the summer, that's for sure. We can only hope Ceej makes an awesome bracket.

But then again, I do have to admit that Mother Brain and Lavos seem to be in the right place. (whatever that's worth...)

Yeah, there's no way of telling if this is just an overperformance by Sephiroth, if there's an irregularity in the Frog/Liquid/MC trio, or if this is just Liquid falling by himself.

Fun with numbers.

Liquid currently has 24.25%. Assuming this stays that way, and Liquid, Bowser and Ganondorf are all static (highly unlikely with what Liquid's showing), Sephiroth would be expected to beat Bowser with 76.60% and Ganondorf with 73.76%. Ouch.

So, uhh...Is Ceej just changing the picture theme in the middle of the round, or could he just not find anything to fit Diablo's background?

Either way, it's a good picture.

The match against Wesker aside, this is the best Kefka has ever looked. But this is the best Diablo has ever looked, PERIOD. Advantage Diablo.

Spring Contest 2005 - Points: 30/36 - Matches: 21/25 - Rank: 01386/24748 - Today: Sephiroth - Tomorrow: Kefka

Here's more fun with stat-possibilities, this time for Kefka/Diablo; keep in mind this assumes the most recent stats for each character (excluding Kefka if you judge by a steady Luca; I'm using Kefka 2k4) are adjusted properly or were already right. Also, again, some are in solely for humor's sake:

--If Diablo = Zelda, Diablo beats Kefka with 62.45%.
--If Diablo = Duke Nukem, Diablo loses to Kefka with 45%.
--If Ridley = Samus, Diablo beats Kefka with 77.26%.
--If Ridley = Luigi, Diablo beats Kefka with 60.88%.
--If Ridley = Mother Brain, Diablo loses to Kefka with 45.71%.
--If M. Bison = Ryu, Diablo beats Kefka with 66.5%.
--If M. Bison = Ken 2k2, Diablo beats Kefka with 62.38%.
--If M. Bison = Ken 2k3, Diablo beats Kefka with 50.63%.
--If Albedo = KOS-MOS, Diablo beats Kefka with 72.09%.
--If Albedo = Vyse, Diablo beats Kefka with 64.8%.
--If Albedo = Laharl, Diablo beats Kefka with 55.74%.
--If Albedo = Luca, Diablo loses to Kefka with 48.96%.

Kefka absolutely has to rely on M. Bison being weaker than Ken, and he's certainly hoping Ridley isn't much stronger than MB or that Albedo is miles and miles away from KOS-MOS.

Change of theme = PHAILURE.
3D Kefka = PHAILURE.
Diablo's pic = SUCCESS!

I gotta give the advantage to Diablo pic-wise, which helps my opinion that Diablo will beat Kefka.

Just a friendly reminder.

I'd take Albedo over Luca pretty quickly, though I don't know if I'd take him to beat him like Wesker did...I figure he'll be between Luca and Laharl, two names we've mentioned for him to be between alot.

If Diablo = Kefka, Luca Blight would lose to Albedo with 40.11%. If you think Luca would do better, Kefka wins. If you think Albedo would do better, Diablo wins. Personally, I think Luca could do considerably better to the point of winning the match, but that may be a tad unreasonable.

I'd take Albedo > Luca... But my opinion isn't really valid because I thought Albedo > Bison. I only changed my bracket to Bison at the last minute because of all the board hype.... Even then I still though Albedo had a chance... -_-

I think it's impressive that Diablo's floor still has him keeping over 45% of the vote since most people expected him to lose to ridley at the start of this contest.

Albedo seems quite weak, but Luca isn't all that mighty himself.

I JUST DON'T KNOW, DAMN IT.

In the first 15 hours of XenoSaga, Albedo has approx. 2 minutes of screentime and I don't think he's been named yet. He just kinda laughed maniacally and went on his merry way.

That is one awesome picture. My bracket is shot, but I would like to see Diablo keep this magical streak alive, if only because we do not know how he would do on Ganondorf, and this is just me yearning for one more enticing match-up. Tomorrow's match has the potential for another high turnout, but with the finals coming on a weekday, I am not sure if we will see 100k+ in any match this contest.

I think bison, diablo and ridley all have huge potential to be strong characters, we just haven't found out how strong yet. They're decently big names in big series/games, and span more than a few years of gamer interest. All they lack is a mainstream appeal, really. I think kefka will overperform tomorrow/tonight, just because kefka represents some of the few final fantasy characters with a "chance." However diablo does, I believe it will carry the 3-pack pretty high in the rankings though
From: pubbisk | Posted: 5/28/2005 10:35:17 PM | Message Detail
A lot of us had "almost" brackets where one bad prediction screwed us over for 3+ points. It's kind of a shame, but it was inevitable with a narrowed field of contestants. Sadly, every single gamble I made in this contest went bad...kind of like rolling triple ones in Risk. (Lord only knows how, but it happens in every game w/o fail.)

If this match is even close after the first hour then kefka has lost. He's terrible with the day vote, so he needs to make as large a gap as possible during the night.
