Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 130

I like Ridley and all, but I wouldn't call him memorable.
His boss fights make him quite the memorable character, he certainly isn't forgettable after playing through a Metroid game with him in it. He brings that kick ass boss fight to the table each and every time. Which, wait, yes, exactly what Master Hand is suppose to do.

No Master Hand just suppose to float there and look all cool and evil.
Crazy Hand suppose to bring the beating.

Go ahead and take out whats in parenthesis there, HM. Ya know what you
get? "and many people probably haven't been interested in playing the
more recent games." The rest are just my personal comments, and I find
it hilarious that you'd read that the same as if I had written: and
many people (myself included) probably haven't been interested in
playing the more recent games because they can't stand the 3d
perspective being used for Metroid.
Two totally different sentences there, the first only being perceived the way you wanted it to be.

While we've been debating this matter, Kefka/Wesker is ahead of any
other second-round match thus far in vote totals except Seph/Vergil
(remember this includes Bowser/Sigma and Lavos/Liquid)...and there's
still more than an hour left. This is weird, what with Wesker/Luca
bombing in vote totals and Kefka never being much of a draw. This is
also Kefka's biggest win yet, as already mentioned. Perhaps this is
leading up to the pic mattering for Kefka more than we once thought,
though we need to wait and see for sure.

Actually... his boss fights aren't THAT memorable.... You kinda just
shoot him until he dies. Kraid in SM is actually more memorable, IMHO.
Sure he's a hell of a lot easier, but you get to him much sooner, and
the pure unexpected size of him was sure to have gathered attention.
His GBA fights were just the same as his SM fight. Just shoot him until he dies....
Metroid Prime was different, but I hate the fact that he was regulated to a pattern. I HATE patterned fights, which is why I detest the 3D Zelda fights. I actually liked fighting Omega Pirate much more. There was a FAR greater impending sense of danger leading up to him. And the actual fight with Omega was a little harder than Ridley to me...
Of course, these are just my opinions.

Which doesn't hold an ounce of truth given its sales in comparison to every other Metroid title out there, with the exception being the original.

The original was the only Metroid title to sell extremely well in
Japan, that's where a good chunk of those sales come from. Every other
Metroid game has sales dominantly from America, whereas the original
was more even. And the fact that Metroid Prime outsold every other
Metroid title does not suggest to me that people are not interested,
unless you want to say that they lost interest after the original
Metroid; not just at the start of the recent games.

"The original was the only Metroid title to sell extremely well in Japan,"
One of those words still doens't fit with the others. Its sales weren't extremely good, far and away better than any other Metroid, but by no means extremely good.
"unless you want to say that they lost interest after the original Metroid; not just at the start of the recent games."
I'd sorta be a living example of this, wouldn't you say? Now, after all these years, I have interest in the series again (barring any 3d atrocities) but haven't been bothered enough to get to them still.

In comparison to other Metroid titles, yes. 1.07 million copies in Japan out of a 2.73 million total would suggest to me that Japan had a very large influence on that games sales in comparison to other Metroids after that and even nowadays. MP has sold 1.93 million copies and nearly all of them come from America. Hell, subtracting Japan's support, the original Metroid goes from first to nearly last.

I was just syaing that "extremely" wasn't the best word to use there.
Halo 2 has sold extremely well, 1080 Snowboarding's sales were good
(equal to Metroid's Jp sales, according to you). Besides, of MP's sales
1.26 million are from NA... that's highly comparable to the original.

And just for those who dislike my definition in this situation... EA
has release 36 titles that have topped the million mark in NA alone in
the last ten years, Nintendo has released 42 titles that completed the
same feat in the same region during the same time. There are in
addition several dozen other titles to break a million from other
publishers. In the same ten years only 12 games have topped 4 million
(or come within 100k of doing so), 3 of them have GTA in their names, 2
have Halo in their names, 4 have pokemon in their names and the other
three were the big three titles of N64's early life (Mario 64,
GoldenEye, Mario Kart 64). There isn't even a Zelda in there, that's my
idea of extreme sales.

correct and I'm just happy with that.

Nah, I'm almost certain Kefka will have more support. Liquid's four
pack had more popular characters and provided better "casual" bait.
Plus, Kefka's got the FF label.

On Crono vs. Mario... at least Crono had always kept it close enough
for it to be a possibility. Now, Kefka's well doing here is obviously
due to being FF related as well as having no competition, as stated. I
could hope he'd fall apart, at least. Oh, and cn, we were basically
talking about it forever.
Now then, go go Bison!

Personally, I hope Bison keeps it up just to suffer those that spent
Kefka finally getting his due talking about 60-65% for Diablo.
If Kefka sprites it for the rest of GF character battles, or Mog gets entered into one of these things, FFIII/VI will finally get the recognition it deserves!

So the only time he kept it close enough was '03.
