Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 128

If Lavos can keep Liquid Snake under 60% (very doubtful, but not impossible), then I'd say things are definitely looking good for Diablo.

At this rate there's not much chance Lavos will keep Liquid under 64%.

The pic is very much in Lavos' adantage...Liquid looks shirtless (is he?) and stupid, while Lavos is very recognizable and dominates the pic. That might be worth a couple points.

I doubt pics are worth anything for characters as well-known as those two. However, if Liquid Snake's extrapolated value was accurate, Lavos would be stronger than Vercetti, and Mother Brain would be stronger than Kefka. It has to be L. Snake's weakness here. Oh, great, and now here comes the "Told ya so!" comments.

At 1000 votes...

Lavos 41.1% 411
Liquid Snake 58.9% 589
TOTAL VOTES 1000

And it's gotten closer since then. Hmm. And I don't think this is just a night vote thing, cause MGS is strongest during the night too. I think Lavos must be Kefka level at the very least, like we hypothesized at the start.

Lavos is actually gaining...the hell?

Haste2:
Lavos would be stronger than Vercetti, and Mother Brain would be stronger than Kefka. It has to be L. Snake's weakness here.

I wouldn't be convinced of that. I've said before that I could see Lavos as being relatively strong, and that Mother Brain was being underestimated.

MegaTokyoed:
If Lavos is on Kefka level than Mother Brain could be stronger than Ridley...

Quite possible. Or, maybe Diablo lived up to the hype and is the (relative) powerhouse many speculated.

Wow, almost dipped below 55% there. Lake taking it back up now though...

I still say this was just the strong CT Board Vote we've seen so often in the past, and Lake will pull away during the day to well above 60%.

Indeed. Lavos lost a ton of percentage throughout the poll in Lavos vs. Mother Brain, as well. Oh, well...

Say, we've got a direct comparision here... might as well use that.

The first two hours of Lake v Frog:

00:15 | Frog | 00823 | +0823 | 54.00% | Liquid Snake | 00701 | +0701 | 46.00% | Lead of 0122 | (Up 122)
00:30 | Frog | 01372 | +0549 | 53.24% | Liquid Snake | 01205 | +0504 | 46.76% | Lead of 0167 | (Up 45)
00:45 | Frog | 01848 | +0476 | 52.41% | Liquid Snake | 01678 | +0473 | 47.59% | Lead of 0170 | (Up 3)
01:00 | Frog | 02279 | +0431 | 52.52% | Liquid Snake | 02060 | +0382 | 47.48% | Lead of 0219 | (Up 49)
01:15 | Frog | 02644 | +0365 | 52.08% | Liquid Snake | 02433 | +0373 | 47.92% | Lead of 0211 | (Down 8)
01:30 | Frog | 02973 | +0329 | 51.71% | Liquid Snake | 02776 | +0343 | 48.29% | Lead of 0197 | (Down 14)
01:45 | Frog | 03281 | +0308 | 51.73% | Liquid Snake | 03062 | +0286 | 48.27% | Lead of 0219 | (Up 22)
02:00 | Frog | 03587 | +0306 | 51.69% | Liquid Snake | 03353 | +0291 | 48.31% | Lead of 0234 | (Up 15)

And as we all know, that ended with

Frog 50.05% 43913
Liquid Snake 49.95% 43820
TOTAL VOTES 87733

'Bout to go to bed, but Liquid should pull away a lil' by the end of it all. Lavos very well may stay over 40% though, which isn't unbelievable considering all three of the other CT character we've seen have beaten, could beat, or almost beat SOLID Snake. Lavos surely can't be all that far away from Liquid afterall, which is kinda weird.

Jeez, Liquid, very sad. Very sad.

To be honest though, I had a feeling that Mother Brain could be stronger than Ridley. Or at the very least comparable. Mother Brain definitely has the recognition advantage, at the very least.

As for Peach, I think she'd be roughly Wario's equal, maybe a tad stronger. I think that Toad would do better than Peach. Yes, I'm serious. Go Toad fanboyism go!

If Lavos weakens by the same proportion here, Liquid Snake will finish with about 62.53%.

I am loving this to death. Lavos is showing some very nice strength against Liquid right now. While he should fall tomorrow morning, he should still manage to be above 40% when everything is said and done. That's freaking awesome, too. Because I called a 40% victory for Lavos earlier. <3

But I got to thinking, because I cannot possibly see Mother Brain being stronger than Ridley. What would happen if Diablo is far stronger than initially thought? I mean like, "Kefka is nothing compared to Diablo" type strength? With Lavos's very nice showing tonight and the fact that I still believe Ridley > Mother Brain, I think it may be possible....

Nominations and contest appearances are not indicative of strength. StarCraft only barely placed into the 2004 Spring Contest and it was a powerhouse. The same thing can happen with another Blizzard entry, Diablo.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Diablo was a top character. He's the namesake of one of the most popular PC games ever made, one that nearly everyone has played, one that's frequently called the most addictive game ever made. He's obviously a badass character, and is arguably the most recognizable villain in this contest, since "Diablo" isn't limited to just video games.

Quite frankly, anyone who thought Diablo would be another Gordon Freeman was being incredibly foolish.

I've long said that Mother Brain would be closer to Ridley than many were saying. Not sure if she will actually be stronger, but it's possible.

But I think that Diablo is pretty strong. Don't underestimate the game named after you factor, especially when it's one of the most well-known games around.

I'm thinking Ridley is roughly equal to Mother Brain.

Ridley has two more games, and is "more liked" (debatable), but Mother Brain has the huge picture/name recognition advantage.

Diablo over Ganon is simply something I cannot agree with. I do applaud you for taking the risk, Dabu, but I couldn't see Diablo being that strong. Although I do agree with you that cookie cutter brackets are just... dull. This is a contest where I went with the usual and didn't stray too far away from it and it has been boring as sin.
