Diablo would beat Peach.

Zelda almost certainly benefited a fair deal from the series name; Peach would not get this, and would not approach Zelda.

Aeris>Peach, no doubt. Aeris is iconic in her own way; Peach is famous, but her character isn't covered as much.

Peach would be a worthy contestant, but not anything that strong.

I don't see Zelda benefitting a ton from her name in the title. People on this site play the Zelda games through, and they know the big deal is Link. That's why he's our defending champion. As such, Zelda's titular factor is only a bonus to the strength she'd already display.

Depending on how Diablo does, I could see Peach beating him, particularly if he loses to M. Bison.

Probably because of how beastly Zelda is in the XP stats. Getting close to freakin' Ryu probably didn't happen on merits of her own character if you ask me. There's got to be some name thing going on there.

Well, he sure as hell was a massive disappointment, that's for sure. But the real criticism comes from the match itself.

Everyone expected Ridley/Diablo to be a nail-biter when Diablo cruised to an easy victory without breaking a sweat (Ridley had a lead for two minutes before Diablo surged ahead).

It's the same thing Mario/Crono III was. Everyone expected a nail-biter that would define the contest. Instead we got a match that was over before it began.

The problem I have with "bombed" is that it's too strong of a word. I expect someone like Tanner or Adventure to "bomb" while stronger characters "disappoint".

Well, I expected Ridley to be weaker than most expected...I wouldn't call it bombing, though. Ridley's no Andross, that's for sure.

This contest has never made sense, but it would make no sense at all for Peach to equal Luigi. That should be a ceiling for her. Or if you want to look at it another way, she shouldn't come as close to Yoshi as Luigi does.

Perhaps it's true, but I don't see how one could expect that.

The main thing Peach has that Zelda doesn't is the Mario Kart games. That won't make up for the name factor.

Why shouldn't Peach be at Luigi? I don't know why there is this idea that Zelda is benefiting greatly from her namesake, because that simply is not the case. You could change the name of the series to whatever you wish; Legend of Ganon, if you want, and Zelda's strength would remain the same. Saying that she cannot be that high because she doesn't get the same benefit as Zelda is simply ridiculous.

Peach is a very well-known character and she's had exposure outside of the main Mario titles such as Mario Kart and SSBM. I'm not saying that she would equal Zelda, but there's little to no doubt in my mind that she should at least be at Luigi's level. You act as though he's a huge part of the series. Peach's role has always been greater than his. He was always in the shadow of Mario. Mario, Peach, and Bowser strike me as the biggest three Mario names. Now, I wouldn't put Peach above Yoshi, but you get what I'm aiming at.

Who would've said that? I would have put Yoshi above Peach, yes. But I wouldn't have put Luigi above Peach regardless of where he stands today. Luigi "peaked" in popularity long before these contests were being ran. And his role was never prominent to begin with. I would have taken Peach over him in 2002, 2003, 2004, or even in this latest contest in 2005.

If you played only the two 3D Mario Platformers, you dont know Luigi exists. Outside of the platformers, Peach = Luigi in all of the Kart/Sports/SSB games. Peach has a bigger role in the Paper Mario series than Luigi, who is basically just a cameo. Mario and Luigi is the only game to seriously feature Luigi since... SMW and thats only if you play two players.

I agree with cn, there's not much reason for Peach to be higher than Luigi... and if she is it's certainly not by much. Whether or not she beats Diablo is suspect, but I think she'd beat Riddley either way. I'm certian she outranks Wario, though. For as much as he gets from having his own games it's not half the recogntion she'd get from being in a Mario title. Plus, I'm thinking she'd be "Princess Peach Toadstool". Covers all bases, at least.

Oh, and why does Zelda need to get her strength due to the game being named after her? She gets significantly more for being in the LoZ games because they're just a bigger series here. Nothing more, nothing less. If you think Peach = Zelda you're nuts... she'd at best be to Mario as Zelda is to Link which makes her umm... yeah, somewhere around Luigi.

Depends. I'd expect ganon to win, really, but we haven't seen Zelda in awhile and I'd expect her to be more prominent in Twilight Princess meaning she may be even stronger, somehow.

Nobody with a score of 4 or lower got the match correct. For the first time since Ganondorf vs Giygas, all the perfects were perfect. Nobody fell off the top 50 today.

Lavos is doing well so far...I'm surprised considering Lavos struggled with Mother Brain. This could mean good things for Diablo, maybe, if Ridley > Mother Brain. Or maybe it's Liquid Snake's weakness.
