Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 127
From: SonicRaptor | Posted: 5/20/2005 4:34:03 PM | Message Detail
No doubt a lot of users have Sephiroth/Ganondorf in the finals. I don't think there would be an upset because, as unexpected as MH's victory was, I cannot see him taking out Ganondorf.

The biggest bracket breaker we could have, realistically, is Diablo taking the division.

I realize MH isn't going to take his division, I was moreso talking about the ruin division champ being a possible threat. M. Bison and Diablo both look like very capable competitors at this point.

Maybe Mega Man's fanbase is dying, he's gotten weaker each year and Wily and Sigma aren't the strongest fresh faces.

On one hand, I'm pleased that I'll get points for correctly picking Ocelot; on another, I'm disappointed that Wily is losing to someone I don't care for. But, either way, Bowser is going to destroy Ocelot in the oncoming round, which makes me happy.

Although it isn't like my bracket stands a chance, Kuja losing screwed me over completely. But I am now rooting for Master Hand to get as far as Ganondorf.

I thought SFF meant that the characters shared the same fanbase, and they end up with a different result then what the they would normally get.

... This contest is so boring. >_>

I pretty much second this. But I suppose you now understand why I make upsets known to everyone and pick them. It gives me personal excitement. When I go with the cookie cutter winner and know the limit of my favorites it really puts a damper on things. Although you could attribute that to the fact that in this contest, I don't care for most of the villains given that I don't like villains at all. Give me a Summer Contest, I say.

Nice job Ocelot. I doubted you, but never gave up faith.
Nice contradiction. :P

Hey now, I was in a hurry and had to go when I wrote that. I meant I never gave up faith in him winning, but doubted his strength.

Jenova Division: Round 2 - Match 19 – (1)Sephiroth vs. (4)Vergil

Moltar’s Analysis

Sephiroth - MORE LIKE BOROPHYLL!
Round 1 – vs. Ramirez (Sephiroth: 83.70% - Ramirez: 16.30%)

Oh Sephiroth, you make my job of analyzing matches so easy...

Vergil - I COULD put a Static joke here, but only 4 of you would get it anyway.
Round 1 – vs. Ghaleon (Vergil: 64.45% - Ghaleon: 35.55%)

Vergil shows those Lunar fans who’s the boss.

Well…another Sephiroth match…how am I going to stall my way through this one? Um…oh forget it. Sephiroth wins, and if you think otherwise, feel free to just go rot somewhere. Sephiroth is NOT losing this match, and it will be a blowout. BLOWOUT I TELL YE!

Moltar’s Bracket Says: Sephiroth will win

Moltar’s Prediction is: Sephiroth 79% - Vergil 21%

Ulti’s Analysis

......why even bother.

Prediction: Sephiroth with 76.88%

Soul’s Analysis

Sephiroth is in this match. He wins with 76.02%.

Outback’s Analysis

So this is a loophole so we can retire Seph, right? Right?

Blah blah Sephiroth blah blah. The only real question is whether Vergil can actually break 20 on Seph or not.

Seph 80.01 Vergil 19.99

Inviso’s Analysis

Sephiroth is already going to win this contest, we know this, and it is practically destiny for a Devil May Cry character to get a 4th seed, then fall in the second round. It’s going to happen now. Vergil couldn’t double a weak ass cult character, Sephiroth tripled one. No contest, or at least, after some of these, I wish there wasn’t. So much of me has died inside. (See: Bowser vs. Pyramid Head, Ridley vs. Diablo)

And by the way, Sephiroth is hot, and I would ride him like a cowgirl if he was real. Vergil? No ****ing way.

My prediction: Sephiroth with 69.93%

Ocelot vs. Dr. Wily - Bracket: Ocelot - Vote: Ocelot (16/18)

$50 million for Episode III Thursday! $16.5 million from midnight shows alone, which doubles Return of the King's record of $8 million from midnight shows. Awesome!

Anyway, back to the contest. Well, MH destroyed our chances of seeing a perfect bracket; it looked so probable that we'd see multiple perfects, but now it's highly questionable. Especially since the people who picked him were the worse predictors/greater risk-takers. We might very well see a winner that is missing 1 point--possibly (though extremely doubtful) even 3 points.

Haste2:
You know, statistically speaking, this is one unpredictable contest for its size so far. 49 is the fewest number of perfects after 16 matches since SC2K2 (or possibly the lowest ever...I don't know how 2K2 went). Even though there were only 16 matches for Round 1, the most common score was 11/16. The average score of Sp2K4 was 27/32, I believe. Quite a difference.

Makes sense, not just because this has new characters, but also because the characters are closer together.

Remember that the first round was the equivalent of a normal second round, and that the further you go the harder picks become, because the characters are closer together.

cyko:
in that same Cloud vs. Bowser match, Bowser's pic was absolutely horrible. even though Bowser should be very recognizable, his 8-Bit SMB1 pic is far less cool-looking than his current 16-bit SMW pic. i think a vastly improved pic might have also helped Bowser out. that picture of Bowser was horrible:

Hmmm...interesting point.

I don't see a need for explaining Bowser vs. Sigma, other than Sigma being extremely weak. But it is possible Bowser is underrated because of Cloud vs. Bowser. It's not impossible that Bowser will do better against Sephiroth than Ganon will.

Sir Crono:
Besides, we've never even seen a case of reverse SFF anyway. People just came up with the idea that perhaps Magus could do it to Crono.

Exactly...we have never, ever seen a case of what might have been reverse SFF. Every time people have thought it was possible, it has flopped (e.g., Magus vs. Crono).

cyko:
i will admit right now that i never would have picked Nemesis over Wily or Sigma.

Ditto. Nemesis vs. Wily would be an tough match to call. And Nemesis would likely stomp Sigma.

Oh, and they also got a link for Wily now; I don't know the exact time it went up, but it shows the exact totals from when they posted it:

For once, it's a good thing to vote for Wily, as he's in the GameFaqs Villain battle. This senile man needs your help since he's behind at the moment.
Results:
Wily 20229
Revolver Ocelot 24524

It's not been up for too awful long; it says 5:05 PM, but I don't know what time-zone they abide by. Either way, Revolver's still gaining.

I'm rooting for Robotnik > Master Hand. I like them both, but most advantages (for my preference) are in Robo's favor: he's the better villain AND and is a real villain AND is an old-school villain from a great series AND it's in my (dead) bracket AND it'll keep the bracket SFF-less AND your face is ugly.

...I made that last part up. The only reason I wanna see MH win is to shorten the perfects even more, but I hardly care about that anymore.

Not at all. Talking about front-page linking though, we may be needing to consider something...by the graphs alexa.com gives, I've mentioned how I put in halo.bungie.org and diabloii.net and their hits will show to be about equal. However, upon further investigation, I noticed the wording on the top of the graph...

http://www.alexa.com/site/site_stats/signup?site_url=www.gamefaqs.com+
halo.bungie.org+www.diabloii.net&range=1m&widget=g&style=c&submitted
=true&mode=graph&range=3m&amzn_id=
(piece the three together)

...the graph ranks all of bungie.org and not just HBO; I'm not sure how many of those hits make up that graph, but I'm positive it's not THAT many once you see there's more to the site than just HBO...so methinks Diablo is getting more help from diabloii.net than Master Chief ever did from HBO. Should this be the case, wow...

...and to check, I've heard there's supposed to be another big Diablo 2 site that'd likely help out but was down for Ridley/Diablo. What's that site?

halo.bungie.org ~ 24%

I beleive that means only 24% of the people who visit bungie.org go to halo.bungie.org

I've heard there's supposed to be another big Diablo 2 site that'd likely help out but was down for Ridley/Diablo. What's that site?

TRE, I was looking to find that section in the site and couldn't; how did you get that?

If the site that helped MC out is only a third of the whole www.bungie.org domain, and diabloii.net is just a lil' short of HBO...either we've over-estimated how much that link had done for MC despite my experiment, or we're under-estimating how much it actually helped Diablo against Ridley.

Neither d2data or d2items is too popular according to Alexa (although d2data.net actually made the rankings if you check the last three months). I forgot how big battle.net was, though I figure less people come here from there, since most people get on to play games.

The site I was referring to was blizzhackers.com, although apparently the site is down now. You'd think it wouldn't be popular, but outside of Blizzard's own site, there is not (or perhaps I should say was not) a more popular Diablo II site.

I never linked to it originally for the simple reason that I assumed it was against GameFAQs TOS, although due to the recent change to the site that is no longer the case.

Interested individuals should compare

against

Ansem is likely regarded as black by some because the squeenix fanboys hadn't seen anything darker then the palest pale in a characters skin color since FF7. Ansem left them in shock that it's actually possible for somebody to have tan skin so they naturally assumed that he was one of those black people they kept hearing about in this game they heard that was called "going outside". They hadn't tried the game yet though so they weren't sure if it was true.
