Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 127

Everything, and I mean everything, said Samus should have stomped Cloud's face in. It may be just me, but I think that she is/was legitimately strogner than Link and Cloud indirectly. I'm actually afraid of her facing Sephiroth now... But however you look at it, Jill just isn't right in 2k4. I'm not saying I think nemesis is that high, but I know Jill isn't that low.

Only Samus vs. Lara Croft suggested Samus should've beaten Cloud. I blame Jill's poor ranking partially due to Hayabusa's pic against Sora. I mean, he looked worse in R1 than in R2. Sam Fisher bombed because he was clearly very weak, as Sam struggled with Freeman. I wouldn't call it out of the question to say Jill Valentine weakened, either...Wesker fell just short of 60% against Luca Blight. Plus, I wouldn't DARE rank Sonic's half of the division much higher than they are currently, as they seem ever so slightly too high as is.

Well, ya see, I don't want to blame the overinflation of Ganon and Tidus on Magus... and if Sam Fisher drops like that then we have to blame it on Magus. And don't get me wrong here, I'm not some huge Magus fanboy... it just that... I have a dream, a dream that someone can challenge those whom we once called noble and walk away the winner. Don't take that dream away from me yet.

You mean, including doing 7% worse on Sonic than Cloud did?

Yes, because we all know that Sonic is stronger now. :p Heroes probably did something for him, and Samus is probably righted herself towards the end, but like Cloud in 2k3 her early matches don't feel like they mesh up with her later ones.

But definitely not 7%. It was minimal at best, unless you're telling me that Sonic now could give Sephiroth a run for his money.

After seeing what Sigma just did, that shouldn't be that big of a shock.

Granted, Ocelot dropped like a rock in percentage after a fast start against Nemesis, too. We'll wait and see.

Did anybody save a copy of the scoreboard after Round 16? I just realized I didn't save a copy of it.

Score-Brackets-% Right
16-----49-------93.8775510
15-----522------95.4022989
14-----1664-----95.1923077
13-----3372-----93.5349941
12-----5239-----92.7276198
11-----5460-----90.9890110
10-----4287-----89.0832750
9------2362-----85.2667231
8------1089-----80.5325987
7------408------76.2254902
6------138------56.5217391
5------43-------30.2325581
4------31-------6.4516129

All people with scores of 3 and below got the match wrong.

Three of the perfects managed to get this one wrong, all Top 50 members of course. I have no idea who they were though since I forgot to save a copy of the Round 16 scoreboard.

I'm thinking that Ocelot has simply received the early board vote. There is no way in hell that Nemesis is stronger than Wily is.

We all saw what happened to Kuja, after all.

Board vote or not we know Wily will close in during the day. It won't end like this, and if Kuja (and Kefka before him) has taught us anything it's that you can go from winning narrowly to losing badly with ease. Though it does seem to be a FF villain thing...

Anyway, is it at all possible that Ocelot might be receiving a tiny boost from his picture, or is this all board vote?

He may be a bit more recognizable to some, but the pic of Ocelot is just bad, esp on that background. He looks tooo goofy, like he should be in that one Nickelodeon cartoon (don't know the name, came years after I stopped watching Nick)... you know, the one with the girl... if he had a grey face he'd fit right in. Clearly this is night vote strength, and just enough of it tha tif Wily doesn't make a big reversal in the day he can maintain the W.

this is a classic case of what you xstats believers call "SFF." No I do not mean to imply that Wily is getting sff'd by ocelot right now, but rather that Ocelot got sff'd by Nemesis. I believe we've seen trends of sff with resident vs. mgs characters before. Although I could be mistaken. It's definitely the best way to solve this obvious problem right now though. Also Ocelot could drop during the day like against Nemesis. Either way it makes the Ocelot/Bowser match to be at least a little more interesting. I'll even go as far as to say this means Bowser couldn't possibly get more than 60% on Ocelot. Although i'm sure any mgs fan would say that's obvious.

Yes, it is. Point out any time we've ever seen a case of reverse SFF, especially from games that likely don't even share enough of the same base.

The same reason there may have been SFF in Link/Mega Man. You don't need a perfect overlapping fanbase for there to be SFF.

On the contrary, how do they not share fanbases? If that comment was made 7 years ago there'd be no doubt... but even now it's not unfair to speculate that those sorts of games have a cross-over potential. Moreso than Mario has with either, wouldn't you agree?
